JumpyTheFrog
http://www.cnn.com/2017/07/17/health/contact-lens-uk-trnd/index.html They were preparing the woman for cataracts surgery and discovered a clump of 27 contact lenses stuck in one eye! Over the years, the woman often thought she dropped a lens when removing when it was really stuck in her eye.

MercyA
Oh, the poor woman! :( I bet she feels much better now.
JumpyTheFrog
I was wondering if she had dementia or something because I don't understand how she could not notice a serious problem. I wear contacts and can't imagine having a 2 1/4 year supply in one eye and not going to the doctor for relief.
SparklyUnicorn
This is just astounding really. I wear contacts and I just cannot imagine how this is possible.
Caclcoca
I don't understand this either. One of my contacts went in the back of my eye while I was trying to remove it. This was painful. I started to cry, and thankfully the tears flushed it out. I just can't imagine not knowing 27 contacts were in your eye.
SparklyUnicorn
Yeah occasionally one slips out of place and I always feel really panicky trying to figure out how to get it out cuz it hurts. But that's one. Not 27!!! How big is her eye?!

mumto2
I can't figure out how????? One odd thing was all were in her right eye with no extras in the left. I wonder if she had some sort of nerve damage that would explain it?
TCB
I wonder how she got as far as being prepped for cataract surgery before they found them. Didn't someone look in her eye before then? And if so why didn't they see them?
TCB
She probably didn't even need cataract surgery - just needed the 27 old contacts to be taken out!
MistyMountain
I also wonder how you can have all the prescriptions in your eye. How could she even see?
KatieJ
This makes no sense. You csnt get more contacts without a doctor renewing your prescription, which should involve a trip to the dr. Sheesh.
Daria
I don't understand how she got diagnosed with cataracts. Surely an eye doctor can tell the difference between cataracts and contacts?

Sheesh. This happened in the UK. Maybe the rules are different there.
Tangerine
I wonder how she got as far as being prepped for cataract surgery before they found them. Didn't someone look in her eye before then? And if so why didn't they see them? This was my first thought as well. When I read the article, it said "under her eyelid", so I thought maybe they weren't actually covering her eye. But still, it is surprising that they got that far.
Tap
Wow! It sounds like they were under the eye lid....I wonder if that is how they were missed so long. Crazy! Edited July 20, 2017 by Tap
porque
Umm, I worry that something like that could happen to me....I have had contacts slip back into my eye. They usually flush themselves out eventually, but I couldn't say for sure that they are all out....
teachermom2834
I lost a contact once and never could find it. I worried it was still in my eye but I didn't feel it in there. A couple days later it came out all folded up. It was very strange. But that was one lens. 27?????
KungFuPanda
How do you think you dropped a lense when you can STILL SEE out of that eye??? And how would a second lense on top effect your vision? This makes no sense.
Tap
How do you think you dropped a lense when you can STILL SEE out of that eye??? And how would a second lense on top effect your vision? This makes no sense. I think what happened, is that she had one old lenses stuck behind her eyelid. Over the day, the fresh lens would stick to the old lens, pulling the fresh lens off her pupil (sticking to the others behind her eyelid) and her vision would go blurry. She would assume than the lens fell out. She obviously couldn't feel the stuck lenses so they just kept settling one inside another like stacking cups. Seasider
I was wondering if she had dementia or something because I don't understand how she could not notice a serious problem. I wear contacts and can't imagine having a 2 1/4 year supply in one eye and not going to the doctor for relief. Ditto! One day I got distracted and accidentally put both contacts in the same eye. Took me about five seconds to figure out something was wrong.
