kbutton
For a kids' party--9 y.o. boys--I need some dragons that kids would recognize. So far... Puff the Magic Dragon, Toothless Pete's Dragon Elliot Smaug from The Hobbit Eustace from Voyage of the Dawn Treader They can be mythical, but I'm trying to stay away from having too much that is scary or adult in some way. Dmmetler
Norbert from Harry Potter. Possibly the species from Goblet of Fire, too. The additional dragons from the How to Train Your Dragon movies (slightly different in the books) Mushu from Mulan On the more scary side, Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty
Farrar
Eragon? Was that the name of the dragon? I can't remember (I really hated that book and didn't read the rest, but a lot of kids would know it, I assume).
Farrar
This list might be useful: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dragons_in_popular_culture Do little kids still watch Dragontales? (I hope not... but if they do...) ETA: Charizard! Kids would totally know him. Edited January 12, 2017 by Farrar

ikslo
They called that creature in the NeverEnding Story a luckdragon, no? I personally thought it was a creepy dog, but...

Wheres Toto
This list might be useful: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dragons_in_popular_culture Do little kids still watch Dragontales? (I hope not... but if they do...) ETA: Charizard! Kids would totally know him. There are a couple other Pokemon dragons too: Dragonite Dragonair Dratini Gyarados Latias Kyurem And about a million others. :001_rolleyes: I guess this depends on how big Pokemon is, as to how well they would know them.
Dmmetler
My DD points out that in later Pokémon games, Eggsecutor is a dragon/grass type-which is something kids who love Pokémon would know, but is completely irrational to everyone else, because the character is a palm tree! Anne in CA
Kazul the dragon from Dealing With Dragons by Patricia Wrede. My kids LOVED Patricia Wrede's books.
kbutton
Oh, good to know about the Pokemon dragons too...they will definitely know about them. The palm tree one is intriguing. I will have to ask my son if he knows about it yet. We're planning to have each kid who comes select (if they want) or invent a dragon name for themselves. I want to have enough on hand that they can choose one if they don't want to make one up or don't have one easily come to mind. Thanks again!
