DawnM
http://thisweekinblackness.com/robyn/st-louis-hospital-may-have-stolen-dozens-of-babies-from-black-mothers/ Wow. I am reading this and am sickened. As an adopted child, these stories are very close to my heart.

umsami
This is horrible, but sadly, I'm not surprised. I wish I was. I'm adopted too. Reading "The Girls Who Went Away" was truly eye-opening.
Anne in CA
OMG. This is awful! When you consider how many children are genuinely unwanted, to take wanted children from their mothers is so extra heinous. Hopefully some nurse somewhere has a guilty conscious and will truly speak up.
ashfern
So sad for all those mothers who thought there babies were dead. I wonder how many of the stolen babies were told that they were adopted? Or how they were able to figure that out.
PrairieSong
This is so awful. How did the hospital get away with not returning the baby's body to the family for funeral and burial?
SproutMamaK
Oh wow! I hope the mothers remember information about their doctors, nurses, etc, so that they can track down exactly how this happened. There can't have been just one person involved in this, with no one else suspecting what was going on. This was a co-ordinated group effort. I can't imagine how those poor mothers feel. Anger, shock, hope (that babies might still be alive somewhere), grief, every emotion in between and some that there probably aren't words for. :(
Cinder
That is mind-boggling. I don't doubt that such a thing could have happened. I just have no words. So many questions.
DawnM
Another thing I saw said that many of the admins and nurses have now died. It was 50 years ago.

Junie
I can not even imagine the mothers' feelings... Horror, anger, frustration, sadness... and maybe hope that they will be reunited with their babies many years too late. It's kind of too much to think about. Guest
This is so awful. How did the hospital get away with not returning the baby's body to the family for funeral and burial? Most of the mothers were young and poor and didn't know how things should work.
3 ladybugs
Didn't this also happen in Spain around that same time period?
