So ds can’t be in quiet time with his sisters bc he will get mad and attack them. He can’t be by himself bc he on’t stay put and will hurl himself against the door. He has to be with me. Yay. Now dd6 is throwing a giant fit bc she wants to stay with me for quiet time too instead of being with her sisters. 😤.

He is The Boy Who Broke Quiet Time.

Dearest Spuds,

This is a problem caused by your failure to read the entire thread. Many, many, MANY pages ago, I posted the solution to this, and many of life's, problems.

You need duct tape, dear.

Love,

JJM

I picked up my grocery order with curbside pickup. :hurray: :hurray:

It wasn't until we were halfway home that I realized I had forgotten to place an order for MILK! :svengo: :svengo: :svengo: :svengo:

:banghead: That's my biggest fear about curbside. I'll forget to order everything and have to go in anyway.

Curbside pickup.

That's what I want, Santa. Curbside pickup.

:svengo:

This was actually only my second time using it.  The service isn't available at the Walmart I usually shop at, but it is at the Walmart close to ds17's job.

We've had a few glitches that we're working on (like forgetting the milk), but I think that it's going to be really nice.

No curbside pick-up at our uber-cheap grocery store, but that's okay.  Because uber-cheap.

Ever since getting my new phone in September, though, I've fallen in love with mobile ordering.  Coffee, chicken, donuts... so lovely to skip the line.  (Where we live, drive-thrus are not common, so this is especially a big deal.) .

Which reminds me of our Christmas eve tradition: curbside Cheesecake Factory for dinner (just for dh and myself.) . Kids go to bed early (because Santa) and we get steak by candlelight that I didn't have to prepare.

My Christmas card routine fell apart after the third duck arrived.  My last one was 2010.  But before that, I had a similar love-hate relationship with it.

Expounding on this now that advent readings are done and the crazy people are contained:

My dear mother was/is a Christmas Card Sender Extraordinaire.  It always included photos and a lengthy letter, with components written by each of us children as well as a section by my father and one by her.  These essays were due the day after Thanksgiving, and after she typed them up, my father was given the task of addressing and mailing them.  I'm pretty sure most years they sent at least 150-200.  She kept careful records of the cards they received in return, and if she didn't hear from someone in three years... off the list they went.

For those gifted in such things, this is perfectly excellent.  But even as a kid, the whole thing stressed me out.  Maybe in part because she was stressed by it.

I tried my bestest to do the same as a young adult and into my early years of marriage and parenting, but I was usually late (as in, Easter) and when we really hit the ground running with homeschooling, I realized I didn't need to be my mom.

Besides, we had facebook at that point, but not a whole lotta money for stamps.  And my parents had realized that, as empty-nesters, they were still stuck sending Christmas letters (so people wouldn't think they'd died) but they had very little to share about themselves except a growing list of ailments.

So... while I appreciate and even envy those gorgeous minted cards with perfect family portraits that I still get from my friends, I'm glad we jumped ship.

That is all.  :hat:

ETA:  I appreciate the letters even more than the pretty photos (though they are rare these days) . Kudos to those of you who are faithful letter writers.  Regardless of the time of year.

I think my watercolor camellia is going to be pretty. Layer one on flower and leaves is done. Must allow to dry and not touch. I've got this crazy painting of summer squash I want to do and I'm having to resist the urge to waste a half-sheet of watercolor paper on it. Maybe I'll just draw it large in graphite first and see how I like it.

I realize that most of the civilized world will agree that the Printing Press was the greatest invention of all time, but I would say that parchment paper for baking comes in a close second.

Yeah, I just made the realization last week I could do that when I was baking cookies.  :leaving:
