Ipsey
I'm the breadwinner in my family, and I was laid off today. :( I did not need this right before Christmas. Anyway, I'm trying to find the work from home threads for something to tide us by until either my husband or I can find something better. Can anyone help, or can anyone share suggestions here? Thanks so much.
Miss Peregrine
No ideas for you but I wanted to say I'm sorry. :(
Kim in Appalachia
I have no advice, but I wanted to say that I'm so sorry. :grouphug: I hope you are able to find something soon. I do know to make sure you apply for unemployment ASAP, because it can take awhile to get that going.
Kim in Appalachia
One other thing, if your dh normally does not work, I would have him find something temporary so that you don't interfere with your unemployment. You need to ride unemployment as long as you are able while you search to a job that adequately replaces the one you just lost.

oneddmanybooks
I am so sorry! That is so stressful. Do you know someone in your area who has gone through this, who could help you know about local services? I do not know anything about work from home, except one of dh's cousins did medical transcription from home for a while.

Isabella
I'm sorry. Do you have any skills that you could use to tutor kids? I'm not a teacher, but I tutor kids in remedial reading, spelling and writing. If you sew, could you borrow a few sewing machines, and advertise a beginner after school sewing class? These are just a few examples, but I think there is a reasonable market for tutoring/after school enrichment programs of all sorts.
Ipsey
Thanks for the ideas. I don't get any unemployment. :( I certainly can tutor (I'm a teacher), and possibly will, but it's not enough to make it work it, probably. I'd like something more secure or with clear pay. Thanks for all the links, Unsinkable!
Jenny in Florida
I work part-time for Tutor.com. It's very part-time, and the hours aren't regularly scheduled, but it's possible to make it work around other jobs for some additional income: http://www.tutor.com/apply I also teach at one of those study skills centers you see in strip malls. Again, it's not a full-time job, and you can't support a family on the money, but it seems like the place I work is always hiring folks, and they would probably snap you up since you are already a teacher. Another thing I've done, but the money is truly negligible, not more than a couple hundred dollars a month, is online general transcription. I work occasionally for Rev.com. Chris in VA
Can you pet sit? There's a huge market for it around here. Not reliable, but if you can do it at your home, you can pull in some nice supplemental income. There are sites that will advertise for you. Look up going rates in your area--here, it's $65 overnight. With New Year's and Christmas, you might be able to find some clients right away. You can go in person to your local vets and post flyers. If you have a pet that would tolerate a visitor, it can be lucrative. There's also MLK and Presidents' Day weekends coming up, so maybe 2-3hundred dollars a weekend. sunflowerlady
Check out working as an internet assessor for Lionbridge. I have been doing it for three years now. Not sure if the are hiring or not. PM me if you have questions. Also visit the website workplacelikehome.com. It is a great message board for people who work from home and there are lots of companies listed and how to apply.
