Well, the streets are closing down in 3 hours for the set up. So we will be stuck at home for 2 days.

The 3 story high wizard has been erected on the theatre and the banners are all up.

Older ds is down watching the open air showing of the Return of the King tonight.

A tent showcase of all the crafts used in the movie has been up for 3 days, including the weavers, leather workers, knife makers, metal workers etc. Lots to see and buy.

My friend's brother got the contract for the red carpet. He has been given only 6 hours to lay it - actually nail it into the road because of the wind.

My older boy's friend won the hobbit impersonation contest yesterday, and got 2 tickets to the grandstand for the opening. Unfortunately, he has to bring an adult, or he would have brought my ds.

Lots of tourists and media here.

We will watch the event with binoculars from our house.

Thanks for sharing! Those posts are my "carrot" I'm using to get my Middle Earth obbsessed oldest boy to finish his work well today. :tongue_smilie:

He'll be planning a trip to NZ soon... ;)

I wonder if it works for Middle Earth obsessed husbands, as well ;) ?

Thanks so much for sharing! I would love to visit NZ. Wouldn't everyone?

Went down to take some pictures of the mattresses that all the fans slept on last night. It is very funny to see all the people in suits walking to work and having to step over the fans.

So far, it is a beautiful day, and I mean by Wellington standards a 1 in 100 type day. calm, sunny, warm. But there is a storm coming in tonight, so it might get quite windy. I turned to my son and said "boy are they lucky, the weather looks great" and he said, "Oh, just wait 6 hours." The phrase in Wellington is "if you don't like the weather, wait an hour!" And it is so true. It was quite funny 10 years ago to see all the actresses in their skimpy attire freezing to death and having to hold their dresses down in the 40 mph winds!

My poor older son has his martial arts class at 6pm right when the mayor is speaking. His class in on the street with the red carpet with a window looking out. He is going to have to elbow and push is way through the crowd to get to the door. Luckily, he will have a VERY good view as he is only 1/2 of a block from the Embassy Theatre.
