please pray for my brother...

Update on #15

He had to have a second stent in his heart yesterday. He's a great guy. He has two girls (just starting college and just starting med school). He spends time with my kids. Yesterday, he went to the hospital with chest pain I went to see him before the doctor said they were doing catheterization last night. He talked about being out of the hospital today and taking my youngest to the pool today. My youngest has disabilities and my brother tries to swim with him multiple times a summer (I go too). It looks like he won't be out of the hospital today, but I'm worried about the bigger issue of getting well and getting control of his health.

I want my brother to be well. He needs to exercise more, lose weight and be around for his girls when they finish school and get married.

:grouphug: Praying that this will be his wake up call.

It has been for many!

:grouphug: FYI, my brother used to say the worst patient in the world was a 50 year old man who'd never been sick before. There is often an angry/depressed reaction for a bit. Like they feel their body has betrayed them. I've had more than one grumpy newly-sick male "assigned" to me because they had no regular doc be so rude I hoped they'd find another doc, only to find, once discharged and having "gotten a hold of themselves", them very nice.

Most women have seen docs before reaching the age of 50!

My brother was released from the hospital today. It sounds like his primary heart specialist made a mistake that led to the problems this weekend. He had a stent put in 3 years ago. A year ago his cardiologist decided he should stop taking blood thinners. The clot my brother had this weekend was right at the site of the previous stent. The doctor who saw him in the hospital wanted to know why he was off blood thinners and said he needed to take them the rest of his life. Now, there may be reason to switch which blood thinners are prescribed, but it looks like he should take one.

My brother will be doing research and questioning those monitoring his care and hopefully this sort of event doesn't happen again.

He missed a beautiful weekend in which he was going to reboard his deck--he'd already removed all the old wood. In 3 weeks or so when he gets the OK to do physical labor it won't be 70 degrees.

He does exercise, but he doesn't make sure it's always on his schedule. I told him we'd pick 2 mornings a week for me to be at his house at 5:30 am and we could walk 2.5 miles and he could fill in a couple more days on his own. He also knows eating is an issue for his weight loss efforts.

He's bummed he won't be permitted to get in the pool with my youngest for a few weeks. :) He's very kind man (unlike the big brother who I argued with as a child).

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for the update, Betty!

I hope your brother feels much better very soon, and that he's able to get the correct medications that will prevent future problems.

I also hope he has friends and family to re-board that deck for him, or that he will hire someone to do it for him. It seems like an awfully strenuous activity for someone who was just in the hospital for heart problems, and I would hate to see him taking any chances with his health just to get a deck repaired.

we will work on that. He's the one who asked the doc about working on the deck shortly after he had the cath procedure Saturday night. I think the doc thought he was nuts.

I understand your brother not wanting to feel weak, and wanting to get back to normal as soon as possible, but I have to say that I agree with the doc!
