cagirlintexas
I think my son gets side tracked by colorful cartoon pictures so which programs don't have this. I am looking for first grade math.

frugalmama
MCP is Black, white and red. The artwork is nice line drawings - my dd loves coloring them in after doing her math work.

m0mmaBuck
CLE is black and white. Headers for sections are in green. No cartoons but occasionally there is a random Bible verse thrown in somewhere so definitely not secular.

Susie in MS
Rod and Staff is sepia and white. Very little distraction. You can see samples at Rodandstaffbooks.com
houseofkids&pets
We use Math-U-See, which is b&w. I think that the Math Mammoth samples that I looked at have some color, but not cartoons. Both are popular hs math programs.
Ellie
Rod and Staff is sepia and white. Very little distraction. You can see samples at Rodandstaffbooks.com Only the first grade workbooks. It's black and white after that. :-)
Susie in MS
Only the first grade workbooks. It's black and white after that. :-) Very true. I mentioned sepia cuz she was asking about 1st grade. I guess I should have figured she may want to know about books that follow.

Amy Jo
MEP (worksheets are b&w, I don't use the copymasters, so some 1st grade ones might be in color). Miquon. Vintage books like Ray's.
Ecclecticmum
Life of Fred (line drawings I think in black and white...kept simple) Maths Lessons for a Living Education (queen Homeschool) I would have to double check, but if it has pictures, again I think they would be line drawings (I have flipped through it, so not 100% certain on this) Both of those are more into the living maths type stuff though, which if your child is easily distracted, can either be a good thing, or a bad thing. Some children with dstractable minds work better with real-life and interactive sensory curriculums, and some really just need, heres the words and fill-in-the-blank. Pen
Math U See was the most visually calm program I could find for my son.
Rosie
Miquon is one color per page - the ink on one page may be orange and the next page may be green, etc. It is very simplistic looking, no cartoons, has an almost hand-drawn look, no visual distractions. And, IMO, it is the absolute best elementary math curriculum for creating good number sense and making kids feel like they are "good at math." It is a discovery program strongly focused on conceptual learning, not rote memorization.
TheApprentice
Math Mammoth if you buy the actual workbooks.
stripe
MEP (worksheets are b&w, I don't use the copymasters, so some 1st grade ones might be in color). Only the posters are in color, but all the copymasters are b&w.
mhaddon
Math U See was the most visually calm program I could find for my son. :iagree: And if you are wanting to avoid the worksheets and distraction RightStart also is light on worksheets all together and done orally most of the time or through games. DarlaS
Math Mammoth if you buy the actual workbooks. Or print it in B&W. There are no cartoons in it in any case. I would think the color alone would be a non-issue. Any graphics in these books have a purpose.

SnMomof7
MUS is our original math program - black and white (DD - 9, has switched to Math Mammoth because we can't get MUS digitally - sensory issues with paper :(.)
