  1. They were both younger. One was pregnant with her first child; the other didn't mention if she had kids or not. Our regular doctor has four older kids, so I'm sure that factors in to how laid-back she is. :)
  2. At points, I think, "did you even review our charts?" I mean, we've had five kids, two with special needs and one of those medically complex. I'm 34 years old and was an RN. That's all in our summary. We've been coming to this clinic for 7 years and have never missed a well-check. That should count for something.
  3. I'm usually able to request also, but we go to the pediatrics clinic on base and sometimes she's called away for an emergency or has to do an unscheduled shift on the L&D unit or something like that, so we have to go with who is available. Of course, now we're moving and well have to start all over with a new clinic. I can't wait to hear all of their questions! :D
  4. Or regular pediatrician is wonderful. We've had her since our oldest was a baby, so our appointments border on social visits and the kids race to give her hugs and sit on her lap. It's only weird with the new doctors, thankfully.
  5. I would think a better open-ended question would be along the lines of, "describe a typical day" or "what are his favorite foods and drinks?" I had a hard time not laughing while they leaned in with eyes wide to ask their questions.
  6. Twice now, we've had appointments with someone other than our regular pediatrician and they've asked us seemingly leading questions as if they're trying to catch us at something. Ex. 1: Dr.: So, how many ounces of juice does your 15 month old drink each day? Me: :confused1: None? I thought we weren't supposed to gi- Dr.: Oh, good, you should restrict juice because... Ex. 2: Dr.: How is potty training going? Me: Potty training? He's only 15 months old. I do- Dr.: Of course. We don't recommend starting this early. It should be child-led... Ex. 3: Dr.: Does she like sitting up front in the car like a big girl now? Me: I beg your pardon? She just turned three! Dr.: Exactly right! She should be in the back seat in a car seat... This has been the spiel with two different docs. I'm wondering if they attended a seminar or something on ways to get parents to reveal their awfulness.
  7. I am living this right now as we're going through a move. It's strengthening my resolve to go for e-books from now on.
  8. On pink walls, I'd go with the first choice. It will echo the white walls and tie into the bedding. Eta: No valance. I think the curtains are frilly enough.
  9. I've often thought it would nice to have portion sizes available for each menu item. I know that some things would be harder than others, but I can't imagine it would be difficult to offer small/medium/large pastas.
  10. Sometimes you can order a lunch portion instead, although the lunch portion is usually still huge. We find it easiest to stick to a few places and leave it at that. We have a hibachi place that we've gone to monthly since our oldest was a baby. The manager hugs all the kids when we walk in and the table chefs all know our order. 2 adult steak dinners for us, one kid's steak for the 2 oldest (meat goes to one, veggies to the other), and extra plates for the two little ones. No issues at all. :)
  11. I love this one. They furnish a free child's plate of mashed potatoes and gravy with a buttered roll. http://coloradocollege.edu/library/SpecialCollections/Colorado/menus/goldenlantern1952.htm

  14. Our first grader loves NAC. I need to get the StartWrite program so I can put all of his copywork into cursive. He thinks it's fun to make the letters hold hands. :)
  15. I've never had a problem either way. I've ordered from kid's menus and had kids order from the regular menu. Maybe it's regional?
  16. I'm glad he was insured! Prayers for a speedy recovery.
  17. Emeals incorporates leftovers, at least in their slow cooker menu. They also coordinate the week's menu with the sales at your grocery store and give you a shopping list with prices.
  18. I've seen the fuss. I have different priorities. Even at my most fit, running track and cross-country, I never looked like that. And that's okay. I'm glad she's happy.
  19. LOL, I'm sure they were going by total book sales or some such thing. Just think of poor Washington with Twilight.

  21. This might be a neat reading list for older teens! http://www.businessinsider.com/most-famous-book-set-in-every-state-map-2013-10#ixzz2hqxMspMx
  22. I keep looking at these DRV 5th wheels. They seem to be well-made. Does anyone have experience with them? http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-38-RSSB3-MOBILE-ESTATES-SUITE-REAR-LIVING-4-SEASON-FULL-TIME-5TH-WHEEL-/200973067057?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2ecaeda331&item=200973067057&pt=RVs_Campers
  23. I'd sleep 12 hours a night easily, but we have a child with sleep disturbances. Last night, he went to bed at 8:30, woke up at 3:30, and stayed awake until 6:30. I woke him up at 8:30 instead of letting him sleep longer in the hope that it will break this little cycle. We just last week eliminated all of his usual nighttime meds and switched to melatonin only. He had a few nights of sleeping through the night, but started the nighttime wakening again. I don't think I've slept through the night two days in a row in about three years.
  24. Well, after running around crazily yesterday and staying up a little too late, I contacted the movers this morning and they informed me that they would not be coming today. They'll pack us up tomorrow and load everything on Friday instead. Apparently, the driver/foreman looked at the list of items and realized we don't have a lot of stuff. So, we'll be camping out in an empty house until we leave on Tuesday. At least the kids will have fun running around. :D
