Jeannie in NJ
we had a woman and her 3 small children come to look at our house for sale , it was rainy, gloomy and dark (almost 5:00). I had every light in the house on (our house is wonderful on a nice, sunny day) and they stayed 5 min. I mean it was dark outside, so they could not see the yard, or the view or anything. When I go look at houses, I will only go on a nice, sunny afternoon as I want the see the house at its best, I figure if I love it , I can always deal with the gloomy days (to me all houses look fairly gloomy on dark, rainy days). I guess I can assume that today was the only time the woman could come see the house. On another note, a realtor came yesterday to look at our house for some clients in Colorado. I guess they must have seen our house online. The realtor took tons of notes to give them.
Ottakee
Depends. We looked at some houses in a near blizzard before as we had a time crunch and had to see what was out there and soon. Not ideal but it was what worked at the time.
staceyobu
We initially looked at the house we are in at 10pm at night. We were desperate.
Excelsior! Academy
We did. We had to work around dh's work schedule and my impending birth.
livingnlearning
We go ASAP so not to miss out on anything. I've never even thought about arranging it around the weather and time of day!
Unicorn.
It's also a good time to see if the roof leaks!
Cindyg
I would assume that was they only time they could come and/or they didn't know it would be raining at that time.
higginszoo
When we're househunting, we're in town for a very small window of time, moving from somewhere else in another state. We will look at houses until relatively late (7-8pm) if the homeowners are available, and we have absolutely no control over the weather during our very limited time (we once saw 26 houses in one weekend, made an offer, went home, packed and moved). shanvan
It's also a good time to see if the roof leaks! Or the basement floods.
redsquirrel
Because that is when they could come. Maybe they do a quick check and then come back for a second look at places that make the first cut.
linguistmama
In the area I grew up in it was very important to check the basement of a house right after or during a rainstorm.
abbeyej
We've always gone when we were able. Selecting a sunny afternoon just isn't always an option.
Kari C in SC
I would assume that was they only time they could come and/or they didn't know it would be raining at that time. :iagree: Sometimes you just gotta plan a time that works and stick with it. StephanieZ
One house we bought, we saw during an incredible blinding rainstorm. In general, we've viewed homes in small windows of time when we could do it. Appointments are made. Schedules are kept. Weather be ****ed. oldskool
We found our house in the evening and put an offer on it that night. It was really just trying to work between schedules when we were looking at houses. Lesley

But, I have to say, I welcome showing clients homes on rainy days. They can see what it is like at its worst, if the roof leaks, if there is poor drainage around the house, if water comes in the basement, etc. I had one client who ended up only seeing houses on the worst of nights, purely by coincidence. We started laughing about it after a while, but it sure paid off in some houses when we were able to see leaks, etc.
Jeannie in NJ
I never thought of these reasons but they all make sense . The house we would like to eventually make an offer on, maybe we should go see it at off hours and off weather.
The Girls' Mom
We've looked at lots of houses in the dark, and in bad weather. You look when you can. I don't LIKE looking in the dark, but sometimes there isn't a better option.
Julie Smith
The two times I went to buy a house I just had plans with a agent, then went shopping, picked out a house and was home in a few hours. Yup. less then 2 hours to pick the house. Then came the paper work. the inspections by a professional...

Laura Corin
It's very useful. We visited houses during a very wet August and it gave a much more realistic view of the properties. One we couldn't get to because the road had flooded: that took it straight off our list. Laura
