A friend on another board mentioned that if you have over 10 items and are willing to fight the timeout/crashing/whatever Scholastic is calling it. You can create a second order and use the coupon birthday50 for 50% off your total order.

I refuse to poke around the Scholastic site since it is so broken, but thought maybe someone here would benefit from the additional savings.

How do you phone in an order? I can't find a number anywhere on the site. Does anybody have a phone # for them? I would do that because I have already wasted about 3 hours and can't place the order. And I found some stuff that looks really good.

I finally got my order through! I think the Scholastic stuff is usually very good and, at these prices, worth the hassle for me. Still it's frustrating. This thread was nice. I had never noticed some of the things mentioned that look good.

Things I have purchased prior and enjoyed:

Easy Make and Learn Habitats (not on $ days I don't think; I used the $10 off) I really like all the Make and Learns I've tried

50 Fabulous Measurement Activities

Frogs (haven't yet used this yet but it looks good to me)

Easy Make and Learn: Pilgrims, Mayflower and More

Instant Habitat Dioramas

Easy Make and Learn: Human Body

Easy Make and Learn: Penguins

I tried late last night, early this morning and still nothing. I can't even look as it takes 10 minutes to load a page. I would call my order in, but I can't even view the items. Maybe I will set my alarm to get up in the middle of the night over the weekend. You would think that such a big company would expect and have a website that can handle large amount of traffic.

Last week I bought this Evan-Moor ebook for Malcolm:

Alphabet Puppets (Enhanced eBook)

I paid full price ($29.99) and I know he will love it. Adrian and I are looking forward to making these for him :).

I am in the process or ordering 49 books for $39 that I know we will be using since I always try to prepare activities/ flashcards/ games etc. on my own for the boys anyway and the reproducible pages will help save me time :D (I won't have to come up with my own or make them from scratch). Money well spent ;)!

Thank you to those that posted about the Scholastic Dollar Deals and those that took the time to post what they bought. As for the problems, I think they are due to the number of people on there at the same time. I was up at 2:00am my time and was able to load my cart with ease. I am in there right now trying to finalize the order and have been having problems. Scholastic just took the site down for maintenance so I guess they are trying to fix it. I just hope the $10 off coupon will still work after the maintenance :tongue_smilie:.

Did the coupon still work? What is the code?

I have a lot of things I want to get because we are really lacking in the "fun" dept this year.

Hmmmm...I got an error trying to put something in my cart.

I did every time too, I double hit back button. My numbers kept going up (it took a while to get back to where I was) and then when I checked out everything was in my cart!

Best of luck, it took forever to get it all added lol.

I already had everything in my cart (I did that in the middle of the night :tongue_smilie:) but after they brought the site back up I just went through the long way (through the Scholastic.com website) in order to place the final order. It worked fine and the downloads are working just fine now also :).

I just tried to get to the site and it said that it's down for maintenance. Maybe they should have thought this out better.

Ugh! I was just able to download 13 books when it went down again :banghead:

I'm going to try again at a later time when there will hopefully be less traffic.

If you stay up a little late, try then. You should have less trouble. I am eager to download the books we got and check them all out so I hate having to wait :tongue_smilie:. Adrian already had me print a page from one of the books and he is working on it so he is ok with waiting, for now ;).

I appreciate the lists that have been posted -- I used those as a guide to pick some things out while the site seems to be working.

Yes -- 10THANKS saved me the $10 so these were free! Thanks everyone for posting about this! I "purchased" these:

Writing Skills Made Fun: Parts of Speech

Fun-to-Solve Map Mysteries

Follow the Directions . . . and Learn! Grades: 2-3

Lift-the-Flap Timelines: American History

Quick Crafts: Apples, Pumpkins & Harvest

Grammar Manipulatives Kids Love!

Grammar Puzzles & Games Kids Can't Resist!

Instant Habitat Dioramas

Mega Fun Math Skill Builders: Grades 2–3

Easy Make & Learn Projects: Human Body

I may not have gotten 3 grammar books if I'd taken time to really look at them, but in the interest of taking advantage of the site while it was working, and the fact they were free, I just got them.

Their web site is driving me CRAZY! It keeps going up and down and all around... it's down again right now. I just want to order this stuff and go to bed! Maybe I'll set my alarm for 3am and order stuff then, LOL...

 I was going to do the same, but I got lucky and it worked for me at 5 pm central time. I guess it didn't last long.

I've never had a problem downloading during these sales...I'm in Australia and the time difference means I am ordering when it is early morning hours in the US. Just FYI for anyone having terrible difficulty and willing to set your alarm to do it in the middle of the night! :)

Staying up late worked for me - beautifully - no complaints at all.

For my PreK, Gr 1 and Gr 3 students I got:

Pre-Writing Practice Pages

Mother Goose Math

Mother Goose Phonics

Easy Make and Learn Projects: Penguins

Follow the Directions and Learn

All About Me Write and Read Books

Grammar Cop

Vocabulary Word of the Day

I think I'll go back later to look for more Math resources (dh's specialty so I want to get him in on that one as he is the "math teacher") and Writing resources for my 8yo - we're using WWE but I'd like to add in some other writing instruction for her. The Vocab book does have some great prompts in it though that directly connect to the vocab - I'm really excited about that resource in particular! I'll be working it into her journal time - once a week it is free writing and once a week it is in response to a given topic.

Good luck to everyone else! Oh - and the coupon worked for me too....soo all those books were FREE!

I downloaded one without incident but then it froze on the second yet claims I downloaded it. I came back later to try again and the site was down.

I will try later. Much later.

This happened with one of my copies also, when they brought their site down . Anyway, I have now saved mine on my desktop computer and will be backing them up later today.

Hands on Explorers looks GREAT! A little too old for my kiddos though. I'm thinking I might use these hands on history (civil war, revolutionary war, explorers) as summertime supplements when we are doing our 4 year history cycle to add in some US history. They really get the kids to think.

Outline Maps - this is nice to have. World and States - nice resource for 1.00

I used the Explorer's book for notebooking -- a little easier than an actual lapbook. It is by far my favorite one.

I love the two American Revolution ones (not the plays).
