My dd enjoyed doing her work in multi-colored pens, and would choose a "name of the week" to write on every single one of her papers that week. They WANT to learn (when they aren't wanting to misbehave), so they create for themselves what is needed. It's hard to let go of our ideas about what learning looks like. My younger son wears headphones with music and occasionally talks out loud, my older son taps rythmically and hums - somehow it all helps them get the info in the head. extendedforecast Posted September 1, 2011 Share Posted September 1, 2011 I don't have a problem with unconventional study areas. Like the pp, they just have to come to me for help when they need it. My oldest dd realized that a table was a must when using a compass, despite my advice to sit at the table from the beginning :P That is pretty much the only time she sits at the table for Math. You might suggest he do it lying flat on his tummy, or sit with a book/board in his lap to make the writing easier...but I never cared where my kids choose to do their work. Now she will sit, upside down sometimes, but sitting. The only problem is that she sings what she is doing REALLY LOUD. I just KNOW the ps would have recommended medication for this one. I hadn't thought of this in some time--but one of my kiddos did this for years. Another favorite spot was in a corner between the couch and wall. I wouldn't worry about it a bit! If he's getting his math done, why not? :D For one of my daugther's subjects, she bases it around Disney's Tangled. higginszoo Posted September 2, 2011 Share Posted September 2, 2011 My 8th grader would probably do his college courses under the table if he didn't need the computer for them. His AP Biology answers usually come out just fine from under there. He was in ps for 2 years and CAN sit at a desk all day, but under tables, on countertops, etc. are his preference.
