simka2
Everything fell into place today...and in 2 weeks we will be relocateing to Houston! Okay, maybe the kids and I will be a bit behind, but we are going to do all we can to be ready by then. The rental agency comes out Mon. I will start packing tomorrow. I think I am in shock. Dh's CEO was so gracious to him, and his new boss let it slip how happy he is. This is so different from the trauma of 3 years ago when we were leaving ministry. So... tell me about Houston! simka2
We are here!!!! Where do you plan to move in Houston? No clue!!! Work is near the galleria. I'm sure we will be in an extended stay for awhile ;) This isn't even the job he interviwed for last month, and has happened really fast! Rich with Kids
Well, if you need to know anything about the Sugar Land area or the Galveston area, I have lived in both. Wherever you end up, you will definitely need to make a beach field trip! :D
Sonshine
Well, the first thing to do for input is to look at the real estate prices in the area and figure out if your dh wants to commute or not. Then we can make suggestions as to location. Also, the NE side is piney woods, the middle and south lots of trees, the west trees mixed with prairies. Housing near the Galleria itself is pricey. The Spring Branch (not the town with the same name in another part of Texas) area is not too far from the Galleria and has more reasonably priced homes. Binglewood is a nice 3 bedroom 3 bath subdivision in that area that used to be reasonably priced (haven't checked prices lately). Also, are any homeschool activities big musts for your kids - sports, debate, band, etc.?

justamouse
:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: You've got hard work ahead of you both. Keep your patience hat on. I'm sure when you finally land you'll feel like Dorothy, but it will all fall into place. Congrats!
elegantlion
Congratulations!!! ...and boogers....I'll wave at you from the interstate as we pass. We'll be doing the first phase of our move in a couple of weeks. - you won't need turtlenecks...ever. - get a pedicure, you'll be wearing sandals more often. - quit counting hours for homeschooling, Texas doesn't care. - plan some field trips. Enjoy the frenzied state as you start on your new adventure.

simka2
You sound very excited, and I am sure the kids will love the adventure! I am...and humbled. Now that its "official" dh has had many people really sad to see him go. He's also getting phone calls from other employee's wanting to make sure he keeps them in mind for other positions. I'm happy, humbled and a bit nervous!

tex-mex
 Hoo-ray! Houston is a great place! B-I-G too. Son and I travel there every month to see our specialist at TX Children's Hospital. I have friends who live in Spring and they love it. I like the Woodlands area, personally. Lots of people also like Sugarland. HTH

I actually started prepareing for a move months ago without totally realizeing I was doing it. Had the garage sale, donated a ton of stuff to goodwill. I've been going thru the kids clothes like crazy, and painted the trim in the house. Now I just feel like I have to clean and pack...okay, and get a storage unit ;) If anyone has tips for moving in shifts, would love to hear them!!! elegantlion
Don't forget about the Homeschool Store and Ikea. They're not too far away from each other. Budget at least a day.

Make a section for priority boxes and make sure they are well labeled. Anything that I need right away I put and "A" on the box, along with what is in the box. Are you going to be moving yourselves? Are you taking some stuff right away and movers will come later?
