Tree House Academy
When I was a child, this was my uttmost favorite book. It was spooky, but settling. It was dark in the room and the little bunny was with his momma. I can't really place it, but there is still an "oh neat" kind of feeling I get when I read the book. scrappyhappymama
I think it is sweet. It has a going-to-sleep vibe. It's cozy and has an old world feel to it. So many kid's books are high energy and silly, and don't make great bedtime stories, imo. So yes, I like it. But I despise Love You Forever and we've received it as a gift repeatedly. So, to each their own!
Cindy in the NH Woods
Warm firelight painting the room... Granny Bunny knitting quietly in her rocker.... warm mush.... thick den of covers and pillows.... the comfort of familiar things...the quiet of night time..... ZZZZZZ ;)
kalanamak
Beautiful and sweet, a mouse to follow, a ritual of going to bed. It was our first "book" that he followed, first book he tried to speak along with, a lot of "firsts" with it. That is why it is beloved by me. TravelingChris
I really like it. It wasn't one my mom read (or I should say translated) to me when I was little. But I did get it for my oldest and kept reading it to my two others. They all liked it too.
calandalsmom
Different people like different things. That doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the book or you if you don't care for it.
angela in ohio
Okay, so am I the only one who doesn't like it? I feel like a jerk. Nope. Read it once and gave it away, same with Love You Forever and that potty book (you know, where she leans over and.. ahem.) The Little Engine that Could was our favorite bed time book. :001_smile:
smrtmama
It's just so darned soothing to read out loud.
ThatCyndiGirl
At least it's not that uber-creepy book, "I'll Love You Forever". (shudder) Yeeeeeeah, a mother-in-law driving to the home of her GROWN SON AND DAUGHTER-IN-LAW....breaking and entering using the ladder she has cleverly brought with her.....in the wee hours of the night.....climbing into his window and rocking him to sleep? CREEEEEEEEEEEEEPY!!! :scared: PAGING DR. FREUD!!
teamturner
The list of details reminded me that we used to look for the location of the mice in each picture. It was a fun game for my dc. We did this as well. I love that book!
2cents
Okay, so am I the only one who doesn't like it? I feel like a jerk. You aren't the only one. Nobody much liked it in our home either. I wanted to like it but didn't work out that way.

SnowWhite
We're Good Night Moon lovers in our house.... A comb, and a brush, and a bowl full of mush. I have always thought the little bunny was procrastinating his sleep time by insisting on saying Good Night to every item he could name. ;) I also love the transition in the art from bright to dim. It's a great demonstration of a wonderful bedtime routine. Love You Forever is a book I love to hate.

CREEEEEEEEEEEEEPY!!! :scared: PAGING DR. FREUD!! Bwahahahaha! My thoughts, exactly! Thank the Lord I never bought that book; just read through it at a bookstore back when it was first published and everyone was raving on about it. It made me shudder. Bleh. Goodnight Moon is sweet, but was never a favorite here, either. Mine preferred DK Publishing's "PB Bear" books. And I can still recite DK's "Teddy Bear ABC" by heart. LOL Oh, and Corduroy...man my oldest just loved that story. It'll be fun to see what my newest son likes as he gets a little older.
cathmom
Okay, so am I the only one who doesn't like it? I feel like a jerk. Try reading it in translation. It totally loses the calming, rhythmic qualities present in the English and just seems really, really dumb.
Narnian
I've never cared for it either, but I've learned to repress the gagging and retching long enough to read it to my 3-year-old (and her brother before her) on occasion. While it does have its own sort of loose rhythm, it is jarring and clunky overall. "Moon" does not actually rhyme with "moon"--it's the same word. The illustrations are too garish for my taste; predominant ugly shades of orange and green throughout is a color scheme better calculated to induce nightmares than pleasant sleep. That's my two (or maybe twenty-five) cents. :tongue_smilie:
kokotg
It's just so darned soothing to read out loud. :iagree: Yes--soothing--that's the word I was going to use. My very favorite toddler bedtime book is Sandra Boynton's "Going to Bed Book." sniff. I miss having itty bitty kids.
eclipse
I'm not a fan, although my toddler likes the rhythm of it. I do, however, find the parody Goodnight Goon quite hilarious. :D This author also does The Runaway Mummy and Furious George (which my kids and I love, since George is, in part, furious because people keep calling him a monkey, when his lack of a tail proves that he is clearly an ape :lol. This is something that has infuriated my scientific and detail oriented oldest about Curious George since he was a wee one!)
Moni
Seriously. It just doesn't flow when I read it. Some of it rhymes, some of it doesn't. I don't get it. I didn't get it either. My kids don't know the story. :seeya:
carolinagirl
It's soothing, comforting, night is here and see how warm and peaceful it is? All the things we love are surrounding us... fond memories of it here!
rwjx2khsmj
We love Love You Forever here. I'd much rather read Good Night, Moon than this. First of all, it's over much more quickly. Second, I find the mother crawling across the floor to be beyond creepy especially when she has to break into the son's house to do it! If I saw my mil crawling across my floor I would totally flip out!
