Quiver0f10
My teens are having a NYE party here and I am trying to keep the cost down if posible. I got pretzels, nachos chips/dip and a few sweets but I want one more non-sweet snack to serve. Any ideas? Including my teens there should be @ 20 of them here. Thanks! astrid
Ree's Queso dip makes a lot, and is popular with kids, I"ve found. We leave out the extra chili peppers. Have fun! astrid
swellmomma
cheese and crackers, cut up fruit (maybe with a yogurt dip), or a veggie tray and dip. none of it dirt cheap but not hugely expensive either, you don't need a large amount because of all the other treats. Jan in SC
Popcorn- even if it's a large pre-popped bag! Also- I would "mention" to your dc that their friends are welcome to contribute food. I know I would want to send something if my child was invited to a new year's eve party!
LibraryLover
Yep. Popcorn was the first thing that popped into my head. ;)

cougarmom4
Muddy Buddies...or it's also known by different names...Chex cereal with melted peanut butter, melted chocolate chips & tossed in powdered sugar. Okay, maybe it's a sweet...but it's got that crunch to it and it's yummy.

freetobeme
we like these. . . Ingredients 1 (1 ounce) package Ranch-style dressing mix 1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed 1/4 cup vegetable oil 1/4 teaspoon lemon pepper (optional) 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional) 5 cups oyster crackers Directions Preheat oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C). Cheryl in NM
popcorn. If you don't buy microwave popcorn it's super cheap. Almost everyone loves popcorn and you can make a ton for really very little. You could have different bowls with differents seasonings. Desert Rat
I just made popcorn for our annual open house and it was a huge hit! I used an air popper and made about 5 batches. I only had a few teens though. You might have to up the amount. LOL
home4school
How 'bout sausage balls or those little pig in a blanket? Kim ETA: Or what about putting cocktail wienies in the crock pot with BBQ sauce? Serve with crusty bread?
LauraGB
Veggie trays can be pretty inexpensive if you prep them yourself. Also, a big pasta salad or even a potato salad can be pretty tasty and frugal.
rwjx2khsmj
I vote for veggie tray. Carrots and cucumbers are super cheap and bottled generic ranch dressing won't break the bank. I like popcorn normally but we had it at a party here last night and it was EVERYWHERE in our basement. No one is owning up to a popcorn battle but it looks like the machine exploded. Thank God for a popcorn loving dog.

AngieW in Texas
Summer sausage and cheese arranged in slices on a platter with Ritz crackers or Town House crackers works nicely. A bag of popcorn chicken or lemon-pepper wings (we like Target's brand the best) from the frozen section only costs about $7.50/bag. For snacking purposes, I'd buy 2 bags, but fix just one at a time. You can save the other bag for your family to eat later if you don't need it for the party.
Sunshyne
Muddy Buddies...or it's also known by different names...Chex cereal with melted peanut butter, melted chocolate chips & tossed in powdered sugar. MomOfOneFunOne
Always late, I am. I interpreted a party that had a mashed potato sundae bar and it seemed a huge, huge, hit. The mashed potatoes were served in a large dish and kept warm. There were fancy ice cream dishes and an ice cream scooper. There was every kind of topping: butter, sour cream, chives (actual chives), bacon bits, two or three kinds of cheese, the smallest cherry tomatoes I've ever seen, salt and pepper grinders, and probably more but I dont' remember. Everyone was raving about it. Maybe too much work but I'm definately keeping it in mind for future reference.
Anne in CA
We have mashed potato bars at the hotel where I work and they are always a big hit! I love the mashed potato idea, and I bet the kids will too!
