  1. Using whole oats makes a better oatmeal than instant (at least I think so).:)
  2. We've tried a lot of things over the years and the Clean and Clear Advantage Kit worked/s wonders for my middle daughter. It is cheaper than Proactiv and has three products - cleanser, spot treatment, and moisturizer. (and the tubes are silver) Perhaps this link will work http://www.cleanandclear.com/productDetail.do?productid=54
  3. The hubby of a high school classmate that I am still friends with died suddenly of a heart attack this weekend. I am still in shock. I imagine she is in even more shock but that hits very close to home. I guess I should be extra nice to my dh.
  4. Can I double agree? :iagree::iagree: The WRTR can work incredibly well in these situations with both the spelling and the reading.
  5. Most libraries carry all the classics needed for a WTM education. As long as you are willing to use older versions, you can get used textbooks cheap.
  6. What Your Second Grader Should Know might work quite well. I find it easier to have a workbook but that is a personal preference. MCP Math could be a good choice since the presentation is by topic. You could easily pick and choose the chapters needed. An advanced child would probably need to bump up a grade level.
  7. AP tests, ACT tests, SAT tests all require handwritten work on essays. The rest is fill in the bubble. So a kid eventually needs to be able to write a short essay by hand and fill in little bubbles neatly.:D
  8. I don't miss him as badly this year. He has settled in well. He has a major and plan of study and 'won' the housing lottery this year, so he has a great living arrangement. We text and talk regularly to stay in touch which helps.
  9. I don't know if it is a gifted trait - but my youngest had major stage fright at that age. Our church is very large and when the childrens choir sang in front, she would just freeze up. The choir director, who had years of experience, told me to just give her time and to not make a big deal of it. Fast forward a few years - she totally loves to be in front of an audience and has successfully and happily played lead rolls in plays and sings solos in church.
  10. We start after labor day and end in June. We follow the local school schedule because the kids always had neighbor friends in school.:)
  11. Sure it is okay. Keep in mind that 2nd grade has the most review of any grade so that a child who remembers last years lessons will be bored with the beginning of a second grade text. Perhaps you could move forward to the part that is not a review for your son??
  12. I loved the books as a child and so did my kids!
  13. I have heard of this practice in large, city districts. In fact the nearby larger city is getting publicity by promising textbooks for all the kids to take home (as a reform). I was rather shocked when I realized that the kids had not been given books. Our school district gives access code for online textbooks in addition to the print copies. I wonder if this is available through the school? If not, I think those versions are less expensive than print copies.
  14. Do not run through the airport carrying toddler on shoulders who is chewing gum. The gum will fall out, land in your hair - and you will be stuck on a airplane that has absolutely nothing remotely resembling scissors or anything that could be used to cut for that matter; and will have nothing that you can use to get the gum out - except maybe, perhaps a pat of butter!:D
  15. Sounds similar to my middle daughter. It does get hard to find appropriate books! It has been a long while, but I remember my daughter doing quite well with the higher levels of SWO that SWB recommends. The series focuses mostly on vocab in the last 2 or so levels and the editing practice was valuable.
  16. :grouphug:We will include your mother in our daily prayers.
