  1. My daughters are small and on the thin side (unluckily, I am not<g>). They take after dh's side of the family. My middle daughter got asked about anorexia every so often but she has always had a hearty appetite. I was always trying to sneak more fat into her diet when she was younger - it never seemed to make much difference!
  2. For my son's classes at CC, I listed them as the title at the CC then had him take the AP tests just to cover our bases.
  3. I got the - it was fine mom - response. Followed by, well it was a test just like all the standardized tests . . .
  4. I would be upset by kids sitting on bleachers to take the test. The lack of the homeschool code wouldn't bother me particularly.
  5. Well - if Calvert works for you and your child it might be the less expensive option in the long run. Especially if you factor in potential curriculum that you purchase and then abandon.:)
  6. You could go through all your posts and edit them down to nothingness - if you are so inclined.
  7. We did our own family weekend - and didn't go to the official one this year. Loads of fun!!
  8. No they aren't. They can be a pain but then so can kids of any age!
  9. After a lifetime of homeschooling, my middle child started at the local high school lat year, full-time. The experience has been far more positive than I imagined. The most difficult hurdle was placing my daughter in the correct classes. Personally, giving up the control of curriculum was the most difficult.:blushing: Does your son have a particular interest? Joining a group at school - whether sports, plays, robotics club etc might help. Also, holding your son back a year, as mentioned previously, might work well depending on his size/maturity.
  10. I believe that is the reason for Earned Income Credit which seeks to address this problem.
  11. I have one taking the PSAT next week - she seems to be not that worried about it???? Maybe she should be?
  12. For some reason this year is much better than last for us too! Of course, it isn't winter yet - Feb is rather dreary in our state.:)
  13. Could you ask her to tell you which part stood out to her the most? That would shorten things for both of you! I had one child who would spit out the entire passage and one who gave the most concise version possible - both were rather frustrating a times.
  14. My son was similar at that age - he did get more motivated as he matured.:)
  15. We have survived the depression, wars etc - don't think we are going down - JMHO!
  16. (Ok, I could ask for them not to be so messy ...) Ditto!:001_smile:
  17. :lurk5: We are having a great year. The decision to use Calvert has been a good one. I am impressed with the program which is just what my daughter needs this year. She is not as academically inclined as my other 2 and needs a bit more spoon feeding from mom - and I was becoming frustrated. The scripted lesson plans act as a buffer between mom and daughter going head to head too often.:D How about you guys?
  18. <<Not sure what this has to do with the discussion.>> Blaming poor people for our financial problems when there is so much going on at the top. More stream of consciousness than directly related - but when things get tight it is tempting to start pointing fingers and picking on the people at the bottom of the pyramid when some at the top contributed just as much, if not more, to the problem.
  19. I did taxes for a few years and many, many people fail to report gift income, other support etc which is a form of cheating the system. In this particular case, it is impossible to know if this is happening without more detail. Also, cheating when reporting income, in order to get more money - either as gov't aide, bigger refund, or paying less taxes - is more common than we might like to think and crosses ALL income lines.
