  1. Yes, his death hit me hard because my dad loved him so much and I miss my dad so much (he died almost two years ago). My dad loved Gene Wilder's movies. He would laugh so hard he would have tears rolling down his face. One thing that really bothers me, and maybe I'm completely wrong about this, is that so many people are saying Gene Wilder is with Gilda Radner now and that she was his one true love. No one that I've seen has acknowledged that he remarried two years after Gilda Radner died and was married to that wife until he died 25 years later. It seems disrespectful to me, but maybe I'm being oversensitive.
  2. I haven't used this, but thought it looked good. http://www.teachwithmovies.org/us-history-culture-subject-list.htm U.S. History http://www.teachwithmovies.org/world-history-other-cultures-subject-list.htm World History
  3. Potter's school looks great, but it's expensive. I can send dd to the community college and have her take classes there for DE and spend less while she earns college credit. Thank you for the suggestions!
  4. Oh, I'm so very sorry! I do think you did the right thing.
  5. I get very little sleep. I used to stress about it and it made me miserable. Now I just accept it. If I can, I take a power nap during the day - about 15 minutes or so - and that helps me think more clearly. The lack of sleep definitely affects my quality of life, though.
  6. I am sorry, too. I went through this with my dad and it hurt my heart. Thinking of you.
  7. I have never used this line, but I've heard good things about it and it's supposed to be like Clinique. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Equate-Beauty-Clarifying-Toner-13.5-fl-oz/3167439
  8. We live in a small development in a semi-rural area. We know almost all of the neighbors, but I wouldn't say we are friends with any of them. We are friendly with most of them and actually not on speaking terms with the people across the street (long story summed up by, "good fences make good neighbors"). Some are super nice and we know we can always go to them if we need anything and they can do the same with us. I was best friends with a neighbor a few doors down when we lived in our first home.
  9. I just saw that source this morning, too, and was impressed with what I saw on her site. I did contact her to ask about classes and/or other offerings. Thank you to everyone who replied! I will look into your recommendations!
  10. My daughter is in 9th grade and we started American Lit this year. I just don't feel confident teaching it (we are using Lightning Literature) or evaluating her writing. I was thinking of using dual enrollment, but don't want to do that yet since she just turned 14 (she does go for Spanish, but that feels very different). I like the book selections for Lightning Literature, but I would like more literary analysis even though I have no idea how to grade that. Does anyone have recommendations on an English literature and composition class we can use? It doesn't have to be American Literature. I am making myself crazy right now doubting myself, worrying, feeling like I'm going to ruin dd's future, etc. Thanks,
  11. http://pioneerthinking.com/cooking/homemade-egg-substitute I found this, not sure if it's helpful.
  12. I read you can use 1/4 cup yogurt?
  13. This is perfect advice. I would not directly contact the instructor.
  14. The bigger problem for me is being sedentary. I spend so much time sitting and hate it! I exercise a lot, but then the rest of the day I am stuck sitting. It makes me crazy. I don't like the feeling of sitting so much. I just put my laptop up on a ledge and am standing and using it right now but I'm usually too lazy to do that.
  15. Thank you! This is an online class, but I assume there will be a discussion board. I did look at Rate My Professor and there was nothing about the content. I'm not too concerned about it because she is very mature for her age, but maybe I'm just being naive. The English Comp class will also be online (she would take that in the spring). I guess my biggest concern is if a creative writing class would be more of an elective in 9th grade rather than an English class since she hasn't taken many composition or literature classes yet (we did do Oak Meadow's Intro to Lit and Composition last year). I can't help but feel that she should get those classes out of the way first, but maybe I'm overthinking this. She loves creative writing.
  16. My daughter is in 9th grade and we were going to do a year of American Literature at home this year. I'm not crazy about the curriculum we chose so we talked about her taking English classes for DE (she is already taking Spanish as a DE student). Ideally, she'd start in the freshman English comp class in the fall and then move to American lit in the spring. But, since it's so late, the only English comp class available is an accelerated class for 8 weeks which starts in October and runs through December. She's nervous about doing that because of the pace. The only DE English class that doesn't have English comp as a prerequisite is creative writing. She would love that class, but I don't know if that's a good class for her to take as a freshman or if it's an okay class to have on her transcript. She could take that in the fall and then move to English Comp for a full semester in the spring and then do American Lit next fall. What do you think? Is taking Creative Writing okay for freshman year if she takes English composition in the spring? I'm also nervous about her going so long without writing *formal* papers since we finished her last English class in May and then going straight to a college composition class. Please help! I'm so confused as to what is best for her.
  17. I'd like to be cremated or have my body donated for research. As of now, DH and I have it in our wills that we'll be cremated and scattered together when both of us are gone. My dad was cremated and I have his ashes in my laundry room. I can't figure out where to scatter his ashes. I'm in the laundry room every day and it's the only room in the house that's just mine. I kind of like having him in there with me.
  18. I hate cooking and I hate planning meals and I hate the clean up. If I lived alone, I'd just snack throughout the day.
  19. My son with Aspergers got his first job at a local discount grocery store doing stock. It worked out very well for him. He did have to go on many interviews before he was hired and it was definitely tough on him. Having your ds practice speaking clearly and making eye contact is great. As far as answering about customer service, the idea to look at the company website to find keywords is an excellent idea. Otherwise, I think saying something about going out of your way to make sure customers are satisfied - being friendly and helpful - is pretty basic. You don't want to overwhelm ds with too many things to think about at once. Good luck to him!
  20. I'd add chocolate chips to this: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/claire-robinson/flourless-peanut-butter-cookies-recipe.html
  21. Can you recommend any brands of these products? My daughter is 14 and has eczema since she was an infant. We have taken her to dermatologists and allergists with no success. She is very self-conscious about her skin now and we don't know what to do for her. It is very frustrating.
  22. I hate surprise parties. I've had two and was gracious both times, but I really hated them and don't want to ever have another. I think the only surprise party I would like is if my kids all got together to surprise me since it's rare that we are all together as a family. That would be a wonderful surprise.
