  1. I think that would be fine. Erica
  2. I think everything you wrote would be fine - patterned dress, blouse and skirt, and the dress above the knee. I've been to several Catholic funerals and have seen people wear all sorts of things. Erica
  3. I am so sorry that your daughter and family have to go through this. Sending hugs. Erica
  4. Gosh, that is annoying and something my in-laws would do to me. I've received a lot of gifts that were so rude that I would have rather received nothing. I'm sorry you were hurt. Erica
  5. Oh gosh, I'm so embarrassed that my thread topic says Speed Clean instead of Speed Queen! I don't know how to change it! ETA - fixed! Erica
  6. Thanks to all of you enablers, I bought a Speed Queen washing machine and it was delivered this morning. I read the manual and it recommends high efficiency laundry detergent. I have some open liquid detergent that I was using and it is not he. Can I still use it? I don't know if my SQ is a high efficiency machine (I have the basic model) and if the manual is recommending the he detergent or if he detergent is actually required.
  7. I have twin sons who graduated at almost 19 from public school (August birthdays). One has Asperger's, the other is NT. I agonized over what to do with them when starting kindergarten because my NT was very ready, but his brother was absolutely not ready. We decided to hold them both back a year, and they started kindergarten at 6. It was never a problem. My NT son said he was happy we made the decision which surprised me because he was always very advanced and could have easily graduated at 18. They were not the youngest in their class and did not feel out of place. Erica
  8. I have terrible varicose veins that make me look like an old lady. I keep them covered as much as possible. :( Erica
  9. We've used a stuffed cat on the windowsill to keep birds away. Erica
  10. I go through this with my son. It's like we go through the same difficulties over and over again, and it's hard to understand how he doesn't learn from his mistakes. Have you heard about "defense mode" from Asperger Experts? https://www.aspergerexperts.com/ They talk a lot about motivation and trying to get your child to do things. Sometimes, when I am very frustrated with my son, I try to remember that he has issues that I don't and I try to understand what he's going through. The Autism Discussion page on Facebook is very good, too.
  11. No assigned seats. That would have been perfect! Erica
  12. Thanks! I didn't even think about before the ceremony. I think we'll have the same dilemma then unless we get there late enough so that most people are already seated! Erica
  13. We (DH, my son, and I) are attending my son's girlfriend's graduation on Saturday. Her parents are divorced and are not friendly at all. I don't know if we should sit with the mom (we've been guests at her home for New Year's Eve parties and another event), the dad (we've seen him twice - one was last weekend for prom pics), or if we should sit on our own. Any opinions? I don't want any hard feelings. The mom seems very bitter toward the dad so I think she wouldn't like it if we sat with him, but she's remarried so she will have someone to sit with. I don't know if the dad will be alone or not. Erica
  14. I'm sorry, too. I have a son on the spectrum who can be very difficult and it's emotionally draining to deal with him sometimes. I don't know how much is under his control and I try to keep that in mind. Thinking of you and hoping things get better. Erica
  15. I posted in that thread, but will post here, too. We used the first book with my daughter (8th grade) this year. She hates history, but liked this book a lot and seemed to learn/retain the information well. I liked that it had an extended response question for each lesson and my daughter felt that writing out the answers to those questions helped her to retain the information. Erica
  16. Would you mind doing the same for me? I'd love to see it. We are starting biology in August. Erica
  17. A lot of gyms will allow a short-term membership. I am joining Planet Fitness just for the summer, and my son is joining the YMCA. During winter break, my sons joined a different local gym for just a month. When I go on vacation, I join the community center at the town we visit. I would definitely call the gyms close to where you'll be staying and ask. Erica
  18. We are starting 9th, too! It will be our second year of homeschooling. Erica
  19. What did your dd use for pre-calculus? Erica
  20. My son took Calc 1, Calc 2, Calc 3, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and Statistics for DE at a community college. I can't remember the order he took everything, but I think statistics could be taken anytime. I am pretty sure he took linear algebra and calc 3 at the same time, and then differential equations last. So maybe linear algebra should be taken after calculus 2. You are fortunate to get free dual enrollment! We get four credits free next year and the rest we pay for. Erica
  21. We used TT for geometry and felt it was very thorough. My daughter did do the proofs on paper to work them out herself. We were all very pleased with it. Erica
