  1. Awwwww! Now you made me want another one!!! We've owned 3....yes, they are a PITA.... but they are so smart! Our Red female was amazing... I swear she could speak human. I miss my Mattie. Tick is gorgeous.
  2. Right now I have a Basset-Lab mix from the humane society in GA...he is the most amazingly perfect dog for kids. He is 11 years old now, though, and slowing down considerably.....he won't be with us much longer...... and will help teach the kids yet another lesson...how to grieve. We also have a Jack Russell Mix.... um, he's a sweetheart who has turned into a really annoying storm dog. He is petrified of storms....and since many of the storms hit our area in the middle of the night, we are growing weary of lack of sleep. He's a good dog....but we are not terrier type of people. He's 9ish and we will have him for a long time more... if he doesn't drive us nuts first. Our favorite dogs are Heelers (Australian Cattle Dogs). We've owned 3 of them... awesome, smart, love to work. They have to have a job though....mine were all obedience trained....when they wanted to be. :snicker: Amazing dogs.... some day we may get another. Although, lately I have been looking at Bernese Mountain Dogs.... perhaps when the JRT passes on. :D
  3. _______ is so old, when they fart dust comes out. Older than dirt!
  4. 57........... I married him 22 years ago.
  5. It has been in the 50's at night here....and no warmer than the low 80's during the day........... until today!!! :glare: Today will be in the 90's!!! Horrible weather for the middle of Minnesota! :svengo: They say we'll cool off tomorrow though....hopefully this is the end of warm weather for us. :D
  6. P.E. that is in anyway "organized".... activity should come naturally....(said the obese woman hovering over the laptop). Co-ops.....no way, nope, ain't gonna happen. More and more I am getting away from Textbooks.... I think the only one we use is Math.
  7. I'm for swatting a kid when they are heading for the electrical outlet with a fork to see what it does....... (toddlers) I'm also for swatting a kid when they are taking a cricket impaled on a long pin and heading for the electrical outlet to watch it fry....... (when my Mom saw my brothers doing this...they were preteen and teens) I'm for swatting a kid when they mouth off to me using foul language in a particularly vile manner...... (teen I used to babysit years ago) I don't particularly like premeditated spankings.... but the quick (and not hard) swats that sort of happen to keep the kid safe from something worse happening.... that is what I've always done.
  8. The ability to put yourself in your children's shoes. It involves tons of patience which I am slowly learning. Not necessarily catering to the child, but taking the time to learn and appreciate what wonderfully distinct people they are. To have empathy for them.
  9. My dog found a bunny nest once......killed two of the bunnies and ravaged the nest. I removed the dead ones and sort of refluffed the nest with the remaining bunnies securely inside. Than we left them alone. Overnight the Mom must have come and moved them....no sign of more trauma... just babies removed. I would try to rehome them back to where they came out of and just wait... but that's just me. Otherwise, a wildlife rehabilitator would be my recommendation.
  10.:lol::lol: I learned a lot of curse words from my Mom when she used to sew. My kids have learned a few from me....when I try to sew. It's a family tradition. :D
  11. I "resolve things into thoughts" Think of what each particular room/area represents.... the kitchen is an easy one... sustenance/ comfort/ love/ etc. Then think of your own religion and find the quotes and thoughts that echo those qualities. For me it would be the KJV bible.... I would head to a concordance and research those qualities and find quotes that demonstrate the essence of what I want to feel in that space/room/etc. i.e. "Feed my sheep" or something like that. It will take your own research to come up with something meaningful to you and your family....but this would be a start. Did I make sense? :001_huh:
  12. I've never really looked into why Mary Baker Eddy used tenets rather than doctrine...I should know, but don't. :tongue_smilie: She was coming from a puritanical background and maybe somewhere in her youth she drew her reason. Some other differences: Heaven and Hell are not locations...but more "States of thought" No eternal ****ation No physical baptism....Baptism is a daily, moment by moment thing. No original sin.... this is what Mrs. Eddy railed against as a young person within her own church. We try to handle our lives by relying on our growing understanding of God. Hence our relying on prayer for healings. We are the folks that don't "do" doctors.....although that is an individual decision, a person is not excommunicated for going to a doctor...ever. We use, along with our Bible, the Science and Health with key to the Scriptures...which is our textbook. It does not replace the Bible...but helps open it, enlightens it for us. I love honest questions..... thank you for asking them. :grouphug:
  13. You could use printed maps....there would be nothing wrong with that. They'd just be smaller, that's all.
  14. Off the top of my head: We don't believe in the Trinity....Jesus is not God. People think we worship Mary Baker Eddy.... we don't. Even she said, "Follow me only as far as I follow the Christ." Check out the Tenets....they are our guide and sum up our religion pretty well.
  15. I ain't tellin' no one nuttin'!!! Not anymore, anyway. I don't talk to too many homeschoolers...heck, I don't talk to too many people since moving up here.... but we were visiting with a homeschooling family from our church and I asked what curriculum/books/method/whatever he was using (he was the teacher). He went absolutely ballistic on me! He was ranting about how it was nobody's business how he taught, what he taught, what books he used.... spit spraying, wild gestures.... I just kind of stepped back and wandered away to find hubby and get the hell out of there... I ain't tellin' no one where I am. :D
  16. I guess, for my purposes, the definition between different Christian religions is dependent on whether they adhere to a creed or doctrine... The Apostle's Creed, The Nicene Creed, etc. Christian Science follows no creed or doctrine...so, I know, based on that alone most Christians feel that I am not Christian. meh...to each their own. :001_smile: (It also means that I am excluded from Christian Homeschool groups with a Statement of Faith...which always makes me giggle a little...because, of course, I feel Christian Science is VERY Christian.)
  17. I think these citations speak directly to what I believe..... I am more than willing to share my beliefs but I will not knock on doors or harangue people about Christian Science.... by doing so, I would be denying an individual that discovery of what I hold to be the Truth. I will gleefully assist ..... but the discovery is theirs. It is just our way.... take it or leave it. Christian Science is out there.... in most major cities around the world. We have active websites where people can go and learn about C.S. We have weekly and monthly periodicals with articles and testimonies of healing. We have a world class newspaper that is distributed globally..... I don't know what more that you want to see..... C.S. is out there and available. My life itself is a testament to God and Truth..... I could provide you with countless proofs of God's Love that I have witnessed in my life by prayer alone.... financial healing/physical healing/emotional healing. We read from the Bible and The Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures daily.... we teach our children to live the Golden Rule.... to rely on God for everything in our lives. Here is a link to our Tenets....we do not follow creeds... http://christianscience.com/christian-science-tenets.html I hope I am doing enough for you to be considered a Christian..... :001_smile: (and people wonder why I said "Other")
  18. When I was young.....egads! That was ages ago!!! ..... I read only nonfiction until probably around 6th or 7th grade. All of a sudden I took off with my reading... read everything in sight! I turned out okay....maybe not great, but okay. Keep trying.... maybe find nonfiction/living books that are more interesting for him.
  19. Thank you for understanding. As an aside, Christian Scientists are told NOT to proselytize. I love to answer any questions....but will never push. :D
