  1. It's cool... I understood. :D I just didn't want others to think that I didn't care... the internet is a fickle friend sometimes... easy to misunderstand. :grouphug: Again, thank you for understanding my side of the healthcare debacle.
  2. Thank you.... kind of. LOL It will matter to us but we do rely on a different form of healthcare and healings of all the mentioned illnesses/accidents have been well documented and I am confident that if I am faced with something that I will be able to handle it with prayer. If medical assistance is needed then that challenge will be met as well. While I stated that my family is healthy...we have still had our challenges. Broken bones, heart issues, diabetes, abscessed teeth, etc. have all been met with prayer alone by my immediate family. I won't even get into unemployment/finances/housing/child bearing/marriage challenges/etc. Even if forced, against our will, to buy into the healthcare system....we will not utilize it.
  3. I haven't read all the responses...and this may have been answered...but what about Christian Scientists and others that would rather opt out of health care. I haven't been to an MD in over 25 years.... midwives for the birth of the 3 children. I haven't relied on any kind of materia medica for almost my whole life. My husband hasn't been to a doctor for nearly 40 years. Our kids, born at home, have never been to a doctor/dentist/etc. We are all strong and healthy. We have had our challenges at times but have always relied on prayer and have always been healed with that alone. Both our parents have never used health care, except for my Dad for a very short time...until they said they didn't know what was going on and my folks returned to prayer and the episodes ceased. My FIL is 82 and my Dad is 82. My Mom just passed on and was healthy as a horse up until the end a few months ago. Why should I be forced to pay for health insurance that we will never use?
  4. We moved from GA to MN.... the first time I heard this cute, middle aged farmer dude say, "Uff-dah", I thought I would die laughing. He was so cute I just wanted to pick him up and squish him! To get an idea of when Uff-dah is used, this video might help... I don't know if it offends the locals, but I love it! It has scantily clad females...so be forewarned.
  5. Your daughter has it right....your son will be loved by the ladies! LOL
  6. What a joke. When my husband was laid off and unemployed for nearly a year I finally got to the point where we applied for foodstamps (this was in GA)... I was told by the person on the phone that we couldn't get them because we homeschooled and that I should put the kids in school and get a job. Let's not even go into the fact that it was summer and how were the kids supposed to "be in school" and that there were no jobs to be found..... :banghead: We never got foodstamps..... "and with God as my witness, I will never rely/hope for government support again." :banghead:
  7. :crying: I miss Georgia!!!!!! :crying: :sniff: Okay.... I will now return you to your regularly scheduled post.
  8. We have always had older cars....husband is a mechanic and has always fixed them. Our van is a 98 and needs repairs...he will, eventually, fix it. Our determining factor for when to replace an older car has always been the availability of decent replacement parts. Our old Subaru finally had to be trashed because we could no longer get quality water pumps for it. ...it also had other problems, but when you can't get good parts, what is the point. We will probably always have older cars...it has gotten to be a running joke with us. Even if we had to replace an engine...it would still be cheaper then a new car.
  9. My middle one was 10lbs and 13oz. and was born at home, au natural. No tearing, no problems..... she a tall stringbean of a girl now.
  10. Why pray? to bring my thought back into line with what I hold to be God's true creation...spiritual and perfect. to remember that it is God and His creation that is real....not the material life before my material senses. to find God's promise of love and protection for all of His creation. for healing. I pray...not to adjust God to me....but to adjust me to God.
  11. Had a great weekend! I wouldn't have thought so since my Mom passed on just a month or so ago....but I've had a good time with my hubby and kids. Went on a ride through Tamarac Nat'l Wildlife Refuge; Badminton with the kids; a bonfire with smores; lazy wet/rainy day at home; flowers and a "Big Band CD set"; Hubby fixed the Pooper Scooper and now I can scoop the backyard better! Who could ask for more!:lol:
  12. Meeeeeeeeeeeee! :D (actually, I'll be 50 in October...but have no plans to cut it). ....and I know a lot of other women who are over 50 with long hair.
  13. There are some things we do that are from the heart..... for some it is artistic things, for others it is mathy things (My oldest and I are in the artsy group and my middle child is in the mathy group). I think, if we are aware of these heartfelt outpourings, that we shouldn't squash them with insults and too much direction. We should be careful with others' hearts.
  14. My oldest used to just draw one line across every coloring page she came across..... just one line!!! Used to freak me out!!! She is now 13 and does some spectacular drawings..... mostly cartooning in the anime/manga style. At 6.......... I wouldn't sweat it. A quick story... When I was in Kindy (eons ago! in 1966 or so) I had this old timey teacher....she had us coloring pictures of animals. I had a giraffe and I colored it Yellow and Green...not Yellow and Brown. As she came around to check our work...and lost it when she saw my coloring page....she smacked my hand hard! with a ruler for being so stupid to color the giraffe that way. I've never forgotten it. When my daughter was coloring her one line..... I bit my tongue, screamed into pillows, whatever....but never, ever said anything to her about it. I suggested coloring in the lines, but never forced the issue.
  15. We are currently a one vehicle family...we have an old Jeep Comanche Pick-up in the garage but it needs work and at this rate it isn't going to get it. Hubby drives the van and uses $300 per month in gas to get to and from work. We don't do much else.... groceries and that's about it. When the weather breaks here the kids and I are going to get out (we have serious cabin fever) and start walking. I could stand to lose a ton of weight and this is my exercise plan. :D Everything in town is within a 1 mile walk one way.... so doing this walk for one or two times a week should help me get in shape......... or kill me.
  16. I've done that! 8 boxes of Classic Curriculum..... Memoria Press, Peace Hill Press, etc. I donated it to the ND Boys and Girls Ranch Thrift Stores.... I can only imagine what people thought when they saw that stuff on their shelves.
  17. I just recently was able to sell some things locally..... but that is a first. I tend to give things away. It is much easier to give and not be responsible for a crease here or there or whatever. I am going to have a garage sale in a month or so and try to sell what I have left.... and then give away the rest. I hate the hassle of trying to sell online.
  18. Also lost................... and I don't care to be found....at least not on this issue! :D to be perfectly honest, I've just about stopped coming to this forum for awhile because I'm tired of the drama..... which means I've gotten alot done around the house.
  19. I cashiered for over 15 years at various places..... you learn to stand up to them. After awhile it gets to be great fun. :)
  20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7Lp0UKc0v0 I'll give You a Daisy a Day My mother is dying and probably won't last the day....may not have lasted the night (she's in GA and I'm not). Another song is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRwvdsjnYLY This was my Mother's favorite song.
  21. We are very kind to one another........for coming up on 22 years. I can't imagine being anything but loving in our dealings with each other. Even when we have disagreed we are respectful. He's my soul-mate....and I am his....I can't imagine being anything but kind.
  22. I have been to a couple of conventions...years ago, back in GA. I never went to any of the lectures but was thinking about it. BUT! Not anymore!!! LOL Coming here for the past few days and seeing soooo much about this guy or that guy and all the brouhaha about stuff that doesn't mean diddly-squat to me.... nope, not going to any conventions anytime soon.....and certainly won't listen to anyone talk about homeschooling.
  23. I haven't been in over 20 years......the kids were born at home and none of them have ever been to a doctor.
  24. We had to move out of that town....... we're in Detroit Lakes now. Bought a house far away from the flooding. It was too nerve wracking! We lived there for two spring thaws and decided that was enough. Still not liking the snow falling right now though. :( We are very over it.
