  1. Two of my kids love ROBLOX..... that and Minecraft. love the cake! Eli's birthday is in October...he might like that.
  2. My girls are 17 months apart and I keep them together.....it is easier for me. It can be challenging because the younger girl is a much better math student and the older girl is a much better English/Grammar student......... there is a bit of competition, mostly from the younger girl. But she has learned to be kind and discreet and the older one has learned that she is talented in other ways.
  3. I'd go.....if the company paid for the move, etc. We moved from the Atlanta area to West Central Minnesota... our temp right now is 12*F. It was quite an adjustment......but we have done well with it. We love it up here...... the cold is not an issue!!! You adjust, change some things, prepare...and prepare some more. You'll spend the first few years buying the odd things you need/want........ really, really good winter clothes! A good winterproof car! etc. My only concern would be the darkness up there......... but seeing how the community here in Detroit Lakes, MN has activities yearround ..... lots of stuff to keep you busy....... I'm sure they have stuff up there to do. get involved. It is a once in a lifetime kind of thing.................. GO!!! :D
  4. All three were midwife at home and cost less than $3200 for each kid. We paid as we went through the pregnancy....they were paid for by the delivery date.
  5. I have a 7th, 6th and 4th grader........... I was going to do them all together for history, but changed my mind. I thought it would be easier but the more I worked trying to pull together challenging reading for each child on the same time period I thought.... !!! why do all this work and worry when AO has lists for each grade already......... good, challenging books. So, I am keeping the girls in one grade level (always have) and letting the boy do his own level. It is working out wonderfully! This is our first complete week and I am impressed with how my kids have taken to all the reading/narration/freedom.
  6. We just started something like this.......... we are going to decorate it by the month as a way to remember what events come up for each month. January has snowflakes, a banner for the month's name, a birthday cake for my oldest's birthday, a couple of snowmen.... and I guess that is it. I want to eventually include things like literary dates...historical dates....etc. I know that probably isn't what you were talking about but I had to tell my tale. :D
  7. God (not Jesus... we do not believe that Jesus is God) is the only authority. That's pretty much it. :D
  8. This whole thread makes me twitchy..... not my cup of tea. To each their own, I guess.
  9. I started my son in 5/4 by having me write the problems and him writing the answers....then 1/2 and 1/2.... now he does it all.
  10. Coming from a religion that was founded by a woman (Christian Science) I think women present a unique perspective to the church.
  11. The most successful thing we used was Math-It. Hands down the only way my kids finally became functional with their math facts.
  12. In fourth grade I gave an oral report on the tufted titmouse! I chose them for obvious reasons.....all the fourth grade boys thought I was the coolest thing in the world standing up there talking about feeding my titmouse. That poor teacher.
  13. I have a B.A. in Biology (it would have been a B.S. but Organic Chemistry kicked my butt).....and I never took Calc. I should say, I started to take Calc. but dropped it because I was going to two colleges...both fulltime....at the same time... something had to give. :D I think you will be suprised at how much better you handle the math as you get a year or so older..... I was miserable in math in my younger years but when I went to college it wasn't so bad. I was doing okay even in Calculus...but had to drop something or risk dropping out. The only time that the lack of higher math interfered with my schooling was Physics (I took a lesser Physics). I guess it would matter what "kind" of Biology you were going for.... I concentrated mostly on Vertebrate Zoology and managed. If you were going for something that was pre-med type you would need to have the higher levels of math. As for making a good living....... don't count on it with just a basic Biology degree........... I've never worked in my field of study, mainly because I wouldn't have made that much $$$. Of course, I'm not a very driven person. :001_smile:
  14. I went through bankruptcy about 13 years ago....didn't lose a thing. We were able to buy a house just 3 years after the bankruptcy, too! Things happen....it would be nice if it was a perfect world and we didn't have to go through these things...but things happen, we need to grow up, we need to learn that self control is a good thing (this was my problem). I had a good friend tell me that bankruptcy is like a death.....and going through one can be very traumatic. But, in all honesty, when we walked out of the courthouse completely free of that debt....it was unbelievable. Your family member will survive this. 10 years after our bankruptcy we had excellent credit! We learned alot! I swore I would never find us going through something like a bankruptcy again......and up until my husband's year long unemployment ... we haven't. "With God as my witness....we'll never go hungry again!" LOL
  15. Collecting the books for AO2 and AO4....only have a few more to get. :D We start January 3rd. :tongue_smilie:
  16. Free housecleaning! http://www.cleaningforareason.org/ Got this in my email and wanted to pass it along! If you know any woman currently undergoing chemotherapy, please pass the word to her that there is a cleaning service that provides FREE housecleaning - once per month for 4 months while she is in treatment. All she has to do is sign up and have her doctor fax a note confirming the treatment. Cleaning for a Reason will have a participating maid service in her zip code area arrange for the service. This organization serves the entire USA and currently has 547 partners to help these women. It's our job to pass the word and let them know that there are people out there that care. Be a blessing to someone and pass this information along. I know there are some here who would love this service so I thought I would pass it along......
  17. Awesome program! I think it fosters a whole lot more than just literacy... it makes me sad, though. So many people find themselves in seemingly "no win" situations that they turn to crime.... at least a program like this can give them back a little of their pride and sense of family. You have inspired me....I wonder if there is something like this out here in the boonies? I'll have to look around.... Thank you.
  18. How long after the engagement were you guys married? We waited a whole whopping 3 months...got married by the Chief Magistrate in Roswell, GA. :D
  19. There isn't an option for me... We met on a Wednesday night and were engaged 7 days later........ :D We are coming up on our 22 anniversary....he is my match as I am his. :sigh: He makes my putter flutter. Doh! I just saw that the first choice was 0 - 6 months!!1 Too much ham....I'm not seeing straight! LOL
  20. I'll tell you what........... Your "Social Retards" and my "sucking of the teat of America" children can hang out together anyday! LOL Stand your ground.....and tell them all to kiss your a**! I had a brother and his family attack me on Facebook about a year or so ago.... I haven't talked to him and have no intention of ever doing so again. He was drunk and so was his family and they ripped me up one side and down the other for ruining my children and creating social misfits. I don't need people like that in my life... no one does.
  21. My son....he was about 8 or 9 at the time....still wasn't reading. Part was because he didn't want to, I think... and also because his eyes weren't ready. He would rub his eyes and go through all of the classic gyrations when I would try to get him to read. So I took the kids to get their eyes checked... the Optom... or something or other .... ist said that he needed reading glasses but not permanently. His eyes are still forming and changing and that "for right now" he could use a little ocular help. We got the glasses and ds was amazed...and amazing. While he wasn't thrilled with wearing glasses... the trouble of finding them, they pinched, etc. .... his reading improved greatly!! He is now 10 and a great reader...and he doesn't always use his glasses but sometimes he does (when his eyes are tired?). He says they make the print sharper and easier to read........... I am 49 and now need readers.... I understand exactly what means! LOL
  22. I don't "do" anything special.... we'll pick up a bit and I'll run a vacuum, but that is about it. I'm just happy to have a home, hubby with a job and three great kids....who cares about the dust. :001_smile:
  23. Family of 5..... approximately $600 per month (that includes nonfood items also). We only go out 2x per month.... about $50.00 each meal.
