  1. This has been the topic of conversation quite a bit as our ds is home from college and has seen the pressure his fellow honors students put on them selves. His 'read' of many in that position is that they were always told how great they were and would be so to step off the treadmill was not an option. He also surmised that now that they are in college they fail to see that learning is more than memorization and will spend hours/days trying to absorb textbook material so that free time to just kick around and enjoy doing nothing is much less than for previous generations. His feeling is that high schools failed them by not teaching them how to 'learn'. This household has always held dear the individuality of each person and the need for space and quiet time to absorb and just 'be'. I can thank my folks for that - they knew how to create a balance in life. That was our goal with ds too. Some good quotes from the article: " to make sure you aspire to goals because they are important to you, not because you want to impress your parents, your community or your friends." "How do we go back to the idea that ordinary can be extraordinary? How do we teach our children — and remind ourselves — that life doesn’t have to be all about public recognition and prizes, but can be more about our relationships and special moments?" Thanks for posting!
  2. Happy B-day Libby! Have you tried the homeopathic drops for pets that help calm them - forget the name. They worked wonders on a pooch we had.
  3. Excellent!!! Nice to see things coming around for you guys. So exciting.
  4. :grouphug: All in time..May you be wrapped in grace and peace as you go forward with this new life. Thanks for sharing.
  5. :iagree: This was exactly what I was going to say. Edited: A different color at $67+ http://vip.zappos.com/chaco-etesia-ecotread-suned
  6. Adults! Lord help us. Sorry I 'assumed' they were kids-sounds like you 20y/o student is great! Enjoy your dinner out with dh-you earned it.
  7. :grouphug: You have my sympathies. So many kids lack any personal sense of accountability and seem to expect someone 'else' to remind them of what they need to do and when. Public school fails them as do parents, imho. And, to think that educators and administrators are seeing these hybrid corses as the future for kids! IT's NOT your fault!
  8. My only experience with laminate was in a house my parent's had. It did not like water....Buckled. Is there anyway to maybe tile the bathroom floor completely? Sorry to be a downer but maybe there is a 'newer' laminate that is water ristant and others will weigh in.
  9. Terrific! She looks so happy in the video too. I've always secretly wished I would have studied dance at some point in my life. Best wishes for continued success for her.
  10. Well, thanks for furthering my education - I had not heard of this!
  11. Thanks - sure hope you get those last 33 votes!!
  12. No doubt, you have asked these questions but they come to mind. Have you gotten county approval NOT to have a septic system? Have you planned for placement of the well vis-avis the septic system? Have you asked the well digger to quote for winter drilling?(I know they can drill thru rock over here so frozen ground is likely doable but the cost increases. Oh, and wells always cost MORE than the estimate, in my experience.Something always 'comes up'!) Are you going to want to deal with gray water, really? Building projects test one's mettle!! Good luck.
  13. Yes, they exist and many states are well aware of the benefits. But, one cannot control for lightening caused fires or human stupidity. Forest management is HUGE in our state.
  14. Will share - sure hope you get those votes. Wish they'd let me vote twice! Keep bumping this tonight!!!!
  15. Cargo pants/shorts at all times -ha! It's his lifeline so that is added incentive.
  16. My college aged son took ME and we both loved it!
  17. If you can find one, a 'boot/shoe' doctor might be able to do this. Or ask ask at a shoe repair place. Someone who works with leather should be able to redo the lining. I have had lining repairs done on favorite purses before. Nice idea for dh!
  18. :iagree: This was my immediate thought as well as I read your post.
  19. Beautiful, brings tears to my eyes. What a wonderful person your dh is and what a wonderful example you both are to what a marriage truly is all about. His example and your mutual love will be forever imprinted upon your kids. And all that you do, dear lady, will be through him in some small way. I am sorry for your pain.:grouphug:
  20. Good ideas! Amazon, I think requires the ISBN to match their listing but I could be wrong. Will check it out. Guess I really 'should' list it here too. Will do -Thanks! Always a slim chance that a WTM's kiddo is going to take the same class at the same school too, I suppose.
