  1. Likewise. I usually get a few Christmas gifts from there and have never had a problem. Cool stuff.
  2. For starters, second opinion. Just to know for sure. And if it were me - I wouldn't do a thing at the ages of 7 and 8. That's just me, but I don't care what the dentist or orthodontist says. I'm not getting braces on my child that young - before they're through shaping. Too many little kids are having to wear them twice. I'd rather pay just once, thank you. I had two in braces for approx four years. I paid $230.00 month. Now we are finished. They're now beautiful. They were 12 and 15 when we started, but I couldn't afford it until then. Not sure if the boys will need them or not.
  3. I'm an RN and lots of my patients at the hospital wear them. Most of them just bring theirs from home, but occassionally, we'll be starting someone new. They usually don't like the idea of wearing the mask all night, but are ALWAYS amazed at how much better they feel the next morning. I'd do it. And I also need to agree about loosing any extra weight. That will usually take care of it.
  4. I agree with borrowing TTMM for the first read, but I sure do pull mine out often and reread sections. I'm glad that I own it. Someone else upthread mentioned listening to his radio show on his website - I download his show onto my ipod then listen to it while driving to work and back (160 miles once a week). That has helped me stay focused more than anything. Also you can go to his website and download the budgeting forms for free. Also you can enter you budget on his TTMM site and work from it month to month. It's a very helpful site.
  5. And SUPER FAST!! I ordered my latest book this past Friday (a week ago), received an email Sat that it had shipped and received Mon - I kid you not. Free shipping and super fast.
  6. Do you know yet what you plan for Bio and Chem? I haven't looked into Teaching Co - will do that. Thanks
  7. It seems to me that most of the homeschool high-school level sciences are from a young earth perspective. What are those families using who teach an old-earth perspective? I've searched "old earth" and "science" on this forum and hit four million hits, so I decided just to ask. Thanks - -Anne
  8. I'm planning this for next year. This year is our first with MFW - we're doing CTG. My older son is doing SWI-B and is loving it.
  9. Breakfasts, baked potatoes, soups are our staples when we're stretching our dollars. And I plan my leftovers - that feels like free food, too.
  10. Does anyone know how they come up with our light bill? I know darn well that I've used SSOOOOO much less electricity than last month, but there hardly is any difference. I really think they just pull numbers out of their.....hats and stick them on my bill. Does anyone have any inside information? I'm in Texas and I use TXU. I know that now companies can compete for business but I don't have the first idea of how to find another company. Thanks Anne
  11. I call my mother and ask, "Can you send me a list of all our family's addresses? And also our longterm family friends?" This method has always been very reliable and extremely easy to maintain. :)
  12. I don't think that the first two books are stand-alone. Fractions and Decimals/Percents are super fantastic suplements. Now then, those two are the only books I've seen. But I've read here that the upper level books are considered by lots to be enough to stand-alone. You may want to search through the high school forum to get more opinions.
  13. I'm using MFW CTG for my two sons ages 10 and 11. I don't supplement much. I do add another science because I don't really care for the science at this particular program, but do look forward to the other three science years of the cycle. We also add math, language; we don't currently do foreign language. We also have tennis and lots of field trips and church activities on the side. This is the first year I've used MFW, so I can't comment on any other years. I plan to use the remainder of the cycle at least and will reevaluate before each boy starts their high school years. I sorta see us using MFW for the younger all the way through and switching back to Sonlight for the upper levels for my oldest. But a thousand things will change by then.....
  14. I've been asked to brainstorm for ideas that our hospital could impliment that would help older nurses keep working. And I haven't a clue where to start. I've never worked in a hospital that treated them any differently, but seeing my age increase along with my back pain, I'd like to do some informal research. For instance, we have a particular RN on my unit, Marsha, who is 58 - though her body is much older. She LOVES bedside nursing. She's been a nurse since she was probably 2 and is the smartest person I know. Our floor NEEDS her, as do many others. But she struggles with 12 hour shifts, obviously. She has more illnesses that cause call ins. She has changed her schedule to part-time (2 12hr shifts per week) in order to keep her benefits - which DOUBLE in cost due to her now part-time status. She doesn't want a desk job. She completely loves bedside nursing. At our hospital, we probably have a thousand other Marshas. Does your hospital treat older nurses any differently to try to retain them? Or do we just need to plan for retirement at 55, even though the govt says that we can work full-time until we're 67. I personally cannot put into words how I feel imagining my current job at age 67. Thanks for any feedback!! Anne
  15. BECAUSE I have boys, they clean the bathrooms. Their aim magically improved overnight.
  16. That was the book that got him thinking/planning this. My boys and I have followed his blog the whole year. We followed his position on the map and read up on the places he landed. I'm sad it's over for selfish reasons and can't wait for his DVD and book. Seems like a really neat family.
  17. I think it's because they think that it's everyone else's fault that their life is so horrible. So they're not going alone.
  18. He went on to say that what their daddy had to endure was strange. And that would be correct.
  19. I also imagine that this doc made some mistakes. I've been an RN for 12 years - always in a hospital setting - worked hundreds of codes. I can probably count on one hand the number of doctors who activly participate in codes. It's the nurses and respiratory therapists who are hands-on. The doctors stand around and consult with each other and toss out ideas. If this doctor works in an office, it would be almost certain that his code experience would be minimal. It's obvious he panicked - due to fear or inexperience or both. The toxology report will be interesting. Oh - I've never worked in an ER. Maybe there doctors are more involved. I've only worked in ICUs and on floors.
  20. One pound of carrots will juice into 8 oz juice. The cost of the produce alone makes using a juicer much more expensive. Healthier? Absolutely. Tastier? Absolutely. Easier? Nope. Cheaper? Not unless you grow your own produce and lots of it. Having said all that - I do love carrot/apple juice. Which I could make more of it.
