  1. Simetimes, I feel adventurous, and I think about moving. Being an RN, I can work anywhere. But the first thing I do is look up on the homeschool legal site and look for easy homeschooling states! I guess being in TX now, I'm sorta spoiled. I could never consider a difficult homeschool state. But seriously, I'd consider family or at least close proximity. Cost of living. Weather, if that's an issue for you. I don't know what else....
  2. Well, I was suddenly single, not through death, sadly. Praise the Lord that I was already an RN. I work weekends, homeschool during the week, provide completely and fairly well for my family of five. My oldest daughter is a pharmacy tech. She simply studied and took the test. At our hospital, they make between $14-17 per hour. And the hospital is paying for her nursing school. Could. Not. Be. Better. I can't stress enough to my girls to prepare to be a provider. Death isn't the only thing that can tear a family apart.
  3. I agree with all this. I don't have many posts, but I do purchase a good bit and have never had any problem. I also assume that no one has had a problem with me, or at least none that I'm aware of. This board has a great selection of used products and I love shopping here. I always use paypal and also always offer to pay extra to cover fees since I use a debit card. I'm very grateful for this board and it's used curriculum.
  4. Yes, this. I've been debit card only for ten years. Have NEVER had a problem before.
  5. When I first started homeschooling my boys, we used Abeka for everything. A friend of mine had a lot that she gave to me so that was the biggest selling point! My son did great with Abeka math (grade 2), but the more forum-reading I did - well, then I started curriculum hopping. We finally settled on MUS and have been very pleased with the elem levels. My oldest is about to start pre-alg and I'm wanting to look around again for upper level math. I don't know that he's going into a science career. I think my oldest is slightly ahead of his age; my younger is slightly behind his age, so I doubt they'll be using the same program during high school. I'm not oeverly scared to teach a math - I was good at math and am now an RN, but my background isn't huge. Can you just share what you use now, used in the past, why changes were made, etc. Just whatever else you'd like to share. I'd love to hear any opinions about Abeka upper levels if anyone has used that. I appreciate any feedback. Anne
  6. This looks AMAZING!!!!!!! I think I'll start a pot of hot tea and settle in and start browsing. Thank you for responding to this thread.
  7. I've work in hospitals for a thousand years, though never an ER. But your hospital has policies about this sort of thing, and your dh really needs to understand and follow those policies. Not doing so puts himself and the hospital at risk. If policies are followed, the hospital will protect your dh in the event of a lawsuit; if your dh doesn't follow the policies, he's on his own.
  8. One of the reasons that weight in childhood matters is because once fat cells are created, they never go away. They can be empty or full, but they are always there. So once you have lots of fat cells, you will be more likely to struggle with weight later on. I didn't vote in your poll. I was not active as a teen, but now, in my 40s, am. I am a healthy weight. My kids are all active in sports. I hope it continues. ETA: I went back and voted unathletic teen, now healthy weight. But I work at this healthy weight - I exercise 5 days per week and watch what I eat as well as portion size.
  9. Lots of carrot, an apple or pear, and half a celery. That's my favorite.
  10. Could someone give an example, or post a link, to what it meant by online school? I've never heard of any around here, or heard anyone speak of one.
  11. My nephew really struggled with formula so my sister started giving him their fresh goat milk. He's a new baby! He was 6 months old when she made the switch. I have no research to support or dispute raw milk. I've just seen it in practice.
  12. He certainly does have an uphill battle. I love watching his show Food Revolution. He never quits!! I wish he'd come to our little town.
  13. I've never heard of that. Noncustodial parent will get visitations on weekends, holidays and longer in the summer and the child support amount doesn't change.
  14. This is what I use and have NEVER had a problem like what you're describing. I bought mine from Amazon - I'm sure they're available several places.
  15. I have this already: My house is the yellow one. Hope I can get the picture to attach....well, it's not a big picture, but there it is anyway.
  16. I'm POSITIVE that she knows it's her dog. If I were married, my husband WOULD be taking care of this, but I'm not. And I can't put a fence around my front yard. I mean, a fence around my entire house? Do I understand correctly? I'm going to get some repel stuff this weekend. There was no poop this morning, so last night and this morning, the dog went elsewhere. Maybe the bag worked? I'm hopeful.
  17. Haven't heard about this before - thanks. I caught the dog out there this afternoon. I opened the door and raised my voice; it tucked tail and ran back to its porch. I filled a WalMart bag (literally, over half full), tied it, and set it on the porch next to the dog. As I was taking the trash can to the curb, the front door opened and the dog disappeared. Now I'm really nervous. Someone here mentioned "Repel Dog and Cat Repellent" that's sold at Pet Smart. So while I'm in Dallas this weekend, I'll pick some up. Hope it works. I hate confrontation, especially since it's just me. Anyway, thanks for all the comments - advice and empathy! -Anne
  18. Why would I need to tell them? Will this hurt the dog in any way? It sounds like a good solution for me.
  19. This is how I found it. Today's mowing was the first of the season - lots of weeds and clovers and tall stuff so I didn't know it was there. Now when I walk outside, instead of smelling fresh cut grass, I smell sh-t.
  20. I like the looks of this, but I can almost guarantee that it won't stay in my yard for long, or remain unbroken. Great idea!
  21. I need to check what our laws are. Haven't done that yet - thanks for the reminder. And yes, they just open the door and "take" the dog out. They let it back in later.
  22. No, you're not my neighbor!! The owner of the house next door only rents to unemployed nasty people who leave every two or three months. We've only had a dog once, and not for long. We loved her dearly but she got sick and died about four years ago. Anyway, I would let her out into my fenced backyard to do her business. THEN, we went for our walks, she on her leash, of course. The house next door is probably 3 or 4 feet close to my house. I know that's it - they open the door and she runs into my yard. I understand the dog's perspective (LOL), but I don't appreciate it. I mowed today for the first time this season - UGH!! Thanks for your comments. :)
  23. What can I do? I really don't feel like a simple request is called for. I mean, really, what's she going to say? "I didn't think it would bother you." She's a human - she know it's wrong. Not one of my family members has ever pooped in someone's yard. Why do some think it's ok? Anyway, is there some kind of spray that I can use to get rid of the dog's scent so that it won't come back? Any other ideas? Thanks
