  1. Thanks so much for all your input! I am so new to these forums and I guess hands-on may not have been enough of an explanation or the most accurate description. Sorry! I think Math is so abstract to him and he is easily frustrated. He is not very quick with memorizing facts, so he has a terrible time with multiplication, and therefore division as well. All along, he had been using A Beka, but we have had to slow him down to work on his facts. He's going through MUS right now to hopefully catch him up and possibly gain some speed. I just found LOF for sale used on here, so I will look it over and probably use it as a supplement once he feels more confident with Multiplication/ Division.
  2. I am thinking of using this as a supplement for my 8th grade dd who's doing fine in A Beka Algebra. But I thought my 5th grade ds son would really benefit from this as he struggles with math and is a hands-on, concrete learner. Any thoughts?
  3. We miss LI terribly...it was there that we had the BEST homeschool group!! (New Life LEAH) It's been about 4 years since we've moved.
  4. Down in Slidell, just near Stennis
  5. This is one of the many times I was so glad to have a DVR. We just skipped right by it! But I agree, it's SUPPOSED to be a family show. True "Family shows" are few and far between these days. It was a good "teachable moment" about discernment in a world that looks to crowd our children's minds and ultimately desensitze them.
  6. I would have to say that it was the best finale I can remember!! My kids think I have officially lost it!! Who knew Mom could dance around the living room to Rod Stewart!! And woohoo for Cyndi Lauper! My husband had way too much fun with KISS!! OK, maybe they think Dad has lost it too! My kids had never seen anything like KISS before!! My ds10 was rotflol!!!
  7. Thanks for all this WONDERFUL and HELPFUL input, ladies! This post is exactly what I needed...this is where I am at, right now. We are currently finishing up our first official Sonlight year. Really enjoyed it but wondering if we're "missing" something. I searched out TOG on the web a few weeks ago. I have always been a "WTM chronological history junkie" but was never very organized. I used to feel a bit of anxiety over "getting it all in"! TOG: sounded appealing as a chronological study, more hands-on, etc. I did NOT like the website, very confusing. But so was Sonlight a few years ago (I think it's improved) until I had a catalog in hand. I requested a catalog from TOG but it hasn't arrive yet. SL: I am so appreciative that SL got me on track! My dd, 7th grade did Core 6 very independently this year. After about the second week of me trying to stay with her and guiding her, she declared, I've got it, mom. Secretly I was relieved, since Iwas nursing baby and had 2 ds (ages 8 & 10) in Core 1+2 and 2 dd (ages 4 and 6) learning to read and doing BFIAR. Anyway, 7th grader has been ADDICTED to SL. She does her SL on days off, declares I LOVE SL!! Ds also love the books, especially the read-alouds. Just sorting this out in my mind while giving you my .02:001_smile:
  8. I have also been perusing the CTC catalog recently. I was thinking with 6 children, I may have a better investment with their software. Does anyone have an opinion on whether it's comparable with the books and if there are favorites here as well?
  9. Is your son in the US military? Active Duty and Retired gets a free 5-day pass this year. He could also purchase up to 5 family tickets at a major discount. It's called Disney's Armed Forces Salute Ticket. Anyhow, I thought I'd see if your great deal could get SWEETER!! Have a GREAT time!
