I am an engineer. I would definitely choose a school with ABET accreditation even if he never plans on becoming a PE. Strong math is a must for all engineering disciplines. Calculus based physics 1&2 is the minimum required by ABET. That is what I took because my discipline (chemical) is less physics focused.
