  1. We've tried the daniel tiger thing as well. That does work too. We also tried inside and outside voices. I can't stop her excitement screams, but the other types seems to be better now than a year ago. Also, mine likes to do it when she knows it's not appropriate. I would reiterate that grown ups dont behave like this. With my toddler, I pretend that it hurts my ears or pick her up and place her in a different place. I think she just wants some attention. We also sit down with my 4 year old if she goes straight to screaming at her brother and give her a time out. It doesn't bother me if she's playing chase and screaming. I guess that' more like squeals of delight.
  2. Following. Yep I have the same problem. I assume it's a girl thing.
  3. He may be a kinesthetic learner. Try putting a toy in his hand. Perhaps putty? But then again this is a choking hazard. Mine reads sentences standing up while playing with his pencil in the air or lego blocks. And yes, it takes longer to do a lesson. Hth.
  4. I think it looks good except my meal time generally lasts an hour. :) Also, is your one year old down to one nap? Wow! More power to you! Good luck!
  5. Megablocks, legos, sports activities, washable markers, dry erase board and markers, and computer. If you live in michigan definitely Impression 5 and Ann Arbor, a children's science museum.
  6. Well not to confuse you, but I started my 5 1/2 year old with both. He doesn't do all the copy work. Is this a wise decision? I don't know. He doesn't like to write much. Hth.
  7. That's great! It's a great feeling when they achieve something. :)
  8. Have you looked into real science odyssey? I haven't used their earth and space one yet, but I am currently using their chemistry one as a supplement.
  9. I read somewhere that someone does either cwp or ip (I don't remember which one) one level lower than what they were actually on. So for iinstance, when u get to 2a then she would do 1b IP or CWP. It works as review. I think that's a good idea . I don't use LOF.
  10. Don't be so hard on yourself. We can't all be doctors. Otherwise, who will home school our kids. Lol Your children are not quirky. The Good Lord makes us all different for a reason. I agree with what SeaConquest said. Hats off to you for sticking with homeschooling.
  11. Welcome! My oldest is only 5 1/2, so I don't have much advice. Based on the info above, I don’t think there is any disadvantages as long as he wants to learn. An advantage to starting early is that you will see what type of student he is. For example, I didn't realize that my son is a kinesthetic learner until a few months ago. Mine loved to learn when he was that age, but now all he wants to do is play on the wii. I do not recommend starting that. My dh thinks that it promotes teamwork between him and his sister. :p He just wants to play too. Lol For what it's worth that was my experience. HTH
  12. I love FIAR! I don't actually row for 5 days, but love it! I do SOTW about twice a month since I have a 5 1/2 and a 4 year.
  13. Yes. Mine whines too. Then I figured out that he's a kinesthetic learner. Switched plans and less complaining. Good luck.
  14. still new to this forum. i'm replying to redsquirrel. Yes, please that would be great. thanks a bunch!
  15. Thanks everyone! It's actually a relief to know that "jumping ahead" is okay in certain situations. I usually like to lay out a solid foundation, so I was concerned about starting cursive before print. Because as far as I'm concerned everyone who went to public school learned how to write in print then cursive. I thought I was missing something.......
  16. Thanks everyone! I'm printing this out right now. Now to find a spot where I won't forget.... :)
  17. It sounds like you are leaning toward German, so I would go with that. You will eventually be the one teaching/overseeing the foreign language. You say it's a more difficult path (I'm not sure why), but if you are willing to do it.... HTH
