  1. This is such a great post. Thank you Ruth for posting it on another thread! :)
  2. Thank you Moon. I'm guessing on amazon you bought yours used? I bought the Building Skills one used through amazon too and 90% of the book were written in. Needless to say I was not too happy about that. So, I'm not buying it used anymore at least not through that used bookstore. I guess I was wondering if it was worth it. The time and effort. And how much is it to make a copy? When I was going to school, I think it was 10 cents per page. Obviously, costs has gone up since then. :) I do have a printer, but it's not a laser one. Btw, I like your new avatar. :)
  3. Hello! This is a silly question, but I just wanted some insights. I have Mathematical Reasoning book from the Critical Thinking Company and 3 children I'd like to use it with. Is it cheaper to cut the binding and make 2 copies and then bind it or just buy 2 new books for the other kids when they are of age? It cost $42. Sometimes I get a 20% off coupon, but then shipping is about $10. I think homeschool buyers co-op has a 15% off every now and then, but don't remember if that comes with free shipping. What do you do? I plan on ordering the rest of the series as they get older. Thanks for any input.
  4. I think it's great that they want to do homeschool together. You are so lucky to be able to help them build a strong relationship. Family bonding is one of the most important thing I like about homeschooling. Like pps wrote, you'll be fine. There are online classes and this forum to help you. :) Plus, you don't have to be gifted to raise a gifted child. :) Good luck and have fun!
  5. James Herriot's Treasury for Children. My First Little House picture book series. I don't know if they are his reading level......
  6. Yes. Thank you for the link. Mine are too young to join, but will keep this in mind.
  7. We're around page 120 in PP and have started AAS (around lesson 11?). My goal is to keep the rules in PP while using AAS.
  8. I have 2 big ones side by side. One for ds and one for dd (just in case my dd wants to play along with older brother). I think they are 2 x 3 foot. I have them on the wall where my 5 1/2 and 4 year old have access to them. I leave the letter tiles on the board. Occassionally, when I walk by I'll find a word on it. :p My almost 2 year old plays with the tiles. She seems to know that they stay up there. But she seems to have sticky fingers when it comes to the refrigerator letter magnets. :) I have no idea where to get them for cheap. I got mine from the school box for $40 each. So if u can get it for less than that. .....:) I have a separate dry erase board to write on in the kitchen. Ah, to have a room just for school! :) Hth
  9. Found it for $15 on christianbook.com. yeah!
  10. Thank you! Exactly what I was looking for. Except a used book on amazon is $137........ :) I will buy this (from somewhere else) and Reading Pathways.
  11. Thank you! I actually feel foolish now because I use Phonics Pathways! I need more sleep.............. :)
  12. I just remembered Progressive Phonics. But I would love any other input or suggestions. Thanks a bunch!
  13. Hello, My son really likes "I Can Read Now!" by David Fernstedt. http://www.amazon.com/Read-Easy-Sight-Word-Reader/dp/0615301142/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410455160&sr=8-1&keywords=i+can+read+now+fernstedt Is there anything else like that? Basically, each page has a picture with the fluency sentence. For example, Which Which of Which of the Which of the dogs......etc. You get the point. We have Bob books, but it's not exactly the same. We have fluency reader pages through AAR, but that's not what I'm looking for either. Someone on this forum had mentioned "You Can Read to Me and I'll Read to You", so I've got them on hold at the library. Don't know if that's what I'm looking for either. We'll see. Any suggestions?
  14. That's right. Because 3 is actually over 1, so just cross multiply. I love algebra problems! I'm a bit rusty though. :)
  15. I agree. I don't imagine she's asking us to do this for the fun of it. This forum has been an invaluable resource for me. She's asking us to do this to be polite. She could just take that down the site and be done with it. But instead she's still trying to maintain this forum. I think it's a small price to pay in order to maintain this forum. Thank you SWB!
  16. yes! thank you snickerdoodle. that's the way I did it, but wasn't sure if just multiplying by y-1 was legal. I tend to make up my own rules. :)
  17. I can't really see it. it's small on my end and I'm not tech savvy......... I'm glad you got it! :)
  18. If you plug in 3/2 it works. 3/2 / [3/2 - 1] - 3. do the denominator first, which will give you 1/2. then you are left with 3/2 / 1/2 = 3. so, multiply 3/2 and 2 (reciprocal). this leaves 6/2 = 3. thoughts? Now how to get to 3/2.......... :)
  19. I used to read books by Mary Higgins Clark and William Bernhardt. If I remember correctly they write murder mysteries with a twist. No foul language. I don't recall the books being gruesome either. Hth
  20. So sorry to hear that. I'm not a professional, but have u tried explaining grammer visually? Like using the sentence family? Or acting it out? There's also Mct grammar which is I think like a story. I know u have tried to explain it, but I couldn't tell if it was just orally. I hope you find a way to keep homeschooling her.
  21. I started teaching my son phonics from phonics pathways when he was 3 1/2. He was eager to learn and knew his alphabets and some basic phonics before he turned 2. So I knew he was capable. My daughter is 4. I teach her 1 lesson every 2 weeks. She seems to be picking up from when I'm teaching my son. She can read cvc words, but doesn't seem to be as eager as my son to learn. So I'm not pushing it with her. I choose pp because it seemed thorough, no sight words, cheap, and recommended by swb. :)
  22. Play dough for my 4 year old. Don't know if you'll classify it as educational, but she plays with that while I teach her older brother. Unfortunately, my son wants to play with it too. :) She also loves markers and the dry erase boards.
