  1. Yes, we've used it. It served our need well. We also use or have used: Use It, Don't Lose It Daily Math (from Chalkboard Publishing)
  2. I don't really stock up on anything but I do tend to order more household supplies from Walmart.com instead of going out to the store. (I hate going to Walmart but ordering online is easy and painless and online shopping tends to take the place of Target trips during the winter.)
  3. This is why I stopped using BA with my son last year. We're picking it back up again this year, but using it alongside a more traditional curriculum for more review.
  4. My lefty gets frustrated with most handwriting books that have left-handed bindings. I bought this one for him and it has been great. http://www.rainbowresource.com/proddtl.php?id=044986 After we finish this, we'll use The Good and the Beautiful handwriting -- I bought the PDF and had it bound on the top.
  5. I have three prealgebra programs. We tried bits and pieces of each last spring to see which was the best fit. It'll be Math Mammoth 7. I'm keeping other two just in case my son needs a different perspective from time to time.
  6. In the Twin Cities, I'd echo the recommendation of the Science Museum. Great fun for all ages. The Minnesota History Center, about a mile away, is also excellent for all ages. The Children's Museum, also in St. Paul, has recently been renovated and is fantastic but definitely geared towards the under-10 set. Depending on what you're looking for, I can offer other suggestions - just PM me. :) For a getaway away from the city, I suggest going to the North Shore of Lake Superior. That starts at Duluth, about 2 hours north of St. Paul. In Duluth, you can watch ships come in and go out of the harbor, there is a maritime museum, a great sand beach on Lake Superior at Park Point, etc. As you drive north from Duluth along the lake, there are a plethora of resorts that might fit your needs as well as state parks with great hiking and lake viewing (and even places for the kids to wade and/or play in the tide pools) One of our favorites is Gooseberry Falls State Park about 30 miles north of Duluth. Others include Tettegouche State Park, Split Rock Lighthouse State Park and Temperance River State Park. We like to drive along the lake as far as Lutsen (about 2 hours north of Duluth) and stay at Caribou Highlands Resort. It's just off the lake on Lutsen Mountain (a ski hill.) I'd categorize Caribou Highlands as fairly affordable with a variety of lodging options - hotel rooms, townhouses, condos, etc. There is a children's nature-based day camp program and scheduled activities for all ages (mountain biking, canoeing, s'mores every evening, family bingo nights, etc). There are both indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, hot tub and a restaurant on-site. The condos and townhouses have kitchens. Nearby is an alpine slide and a gondola as well as lots of hiking. If you're looking for more expensive options, look at Grand Superior Resort or Lutsen Resort. From this area, you can also access fishing trips on Lake Superior as well as a variety of other activities.
  7. We rented a townhouse for four years, even though we could easily have bought. We didn't know exactly where we wanted to live long-term and the costs of buying and selling houses add up quickly.
  8. I have it pre-ordered through Rainbow and they list a date of 8/31 - which is fairly consistent with what BA is saying on FB. I'm running it alongside another program for my 2nd grader.
  9. We have a lovely homeschool store just north of Minneapolis, in Elk River. It's called Heppner's Legacy. http://www.legacyhomeschool.com
  10. I missed my daughter's well child visit last year. I made the appointment while we were traveling in a different time zone. Entered it into my calendar, not realizing that when I put it on my calendar for 11 AM when I was in Mountain Time, it would automatically adjust to noon Central Time upon our return home. We showed up an hour late.
  11. I'd suggest Sun Valley Resort near Ketchum or Tamarack Resort near Cascade. Fly into Boise. Both are about 2 hours from the airport.
  12. I would like to homeschool high school but my rising 7th grader is currently thinking he wants to go to public high school. (Thankfully, we have excellent high schools in our area.) If that continues to be his desire, I plan to send him to the middle school for one class next fall (in 8th grade) to "get his feet wet" in a classroom environment.
  13. I'm planning to use the Cross Seven videos this year for Morning Time. If you used them, are any of the Claritas printed materials necessary or especially helpful? They're not cheap :( ... but I'll get them if we need them.
  14. We have a disabled parking hang tag for our son and were given no other documentation with it, nor have we been asked for anything.
  15. Does the store only carry Christian curricula? I am a Christian and have used Singapore and have found nothing objectionable in it. That's really bizarre!
  16. B.A. and M.A., International Relations
  17. I bought recently through a FB group buy and it worked great! The person who runs the group does group buys monthly.
