  1. We have two public high schools and one private within 2 miles of our home.
  2. Ditto Mystery Science. There's a $49 sale going on right now. My kids have loved it this year.
  3. I also really like these nature journals. My rising 2nd grader loves it. http://www.jennyphillips.com/nature/
  4. Mystery Science paired with library books on whatever topic is being studied.
  5. Does this exist? I want to use SOTW 3 with my grammar-stage students and MOH 3 with my logic-age student while covering relatively similar topics at the same time. I'm aware of the Biblioplan option, but was hoping there might be a less costly resource available to correlate these two books.
  6. We just started Fix It for this purpose and so far, so good.
  7. Yes, I'd suggest using CWP a grade lower than CLE.
  8. I'm on a FB group for Mystery Science, and here was the response to that question from the company:
  9. I feel the same way. We've used a lot of it, but I'll definitely get $49 out of it next year for my 2nd grader.
  10. We've loved Mystery Science this year so I wanted to pass along this information on their homeschool sale through June 30. $49 for a year's subscription. I have no connection to the company other than being a happy customer. http://mysteryscience.com/order
  11. I am wondering the same thing. I really want to focus on writing next year with my 7th grader but I love the look of the Good and the Beautiful. I'm definitely using it for my rising 2nd grader, and maybe the 5th grader. Perhaps I'll wait until 8th grade to use it with my eldest.
  12. I don't think so but I'm planning to use a few supplements to keep skills fresh, as that is a definite concern. I'll use Evan-Moor Daily Math and Prodigy, plus throw in some Beast just for the extra challenge. We also tried MM and the bigger issue for us was the formatting. Too cramped, too little white space. 13. I'm planning to transition from CLE to Math in Focus, starting a level back as needed to fill in any gaps (so 4B rather than 5A, etc.) Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
  14. I'm wanting a light grammar year (with a greater focus on writing) next year for my 7th grader, so perhaps we'll wait until the following year for TG&TB. I'm still undecided on my rising 5th grader. He does fine with CLE but I also want to focus more on writing with him AND applying grammar to writing which seems to be a challenge for this particular child. I'm anxious to see what level 5 looks like when it is released. I'm seriously considering level 2 for my rising 2nd grader -- we're "test driving" it right now using the free PDF download.
  15. With regard to level 7, does the writing seem to be enough or do you plan to supplement it?
  16. We tried this at the beginning of the year and didn't continue past the first 6 weeks. It was just too wordy and moved too slowly for my taste. We went back to Writing and Rhetoric and that is going well. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
  17. We do a weekly gym co-op and my kids play sports, so we've got PE covered. They love the gym class; you might find something similar at the Y.
  18. We do AAS but after my daughter finished AAR2 this year, I decided to continue on with OPGTR since another level of AAR was not in the budget. It's actually worked really well, to the point where I don't think we need another level of AAR at all. As for AAS, we also use just a white board and it goes pretty quickly.
  19. I'm trying to decide on math for my rising 5th grader and I'm having a terrible time deciding -- help! He's halfway through CLE 4th grade math, having spent the first half of the year doing Beast Academy and CLE 2 and 3 before that. Beast was fun but not enough review for him and CLE is just too incremental; there's not enough time devoted to developing mastery of a concept before moving on. He's a different sort of learner, leaning towards visual-spatial. He seems to understand math intuitively at times and is very good at mental math, but at the same time is having a hard time mastering the upper times tables, doesn't know all of his division facts and struggles with remembering the steps for the standard algorithms for multiplication and division. On his CLE quizzes and tests, he gets 100% except for the harder multiplication (two digit by two digit) and division problems. I'm just not sure what he needs. Is it too late to switch to a more conceptual program? Here's what I've considered: -Singapore, but I'm not crazy about the HIG (I've used it with his sister.) -I've also considered Math in Focus which although pricey, looks great and has the added benefit of going through middle school. But would it be so different from CLE that switching at 5th grade would be problematic? -Right Start E? -BJU, for its more conceptual focus with a mastery focus yet still with some review Here's what hasn't worked in the past: -Math Mammoth, although I'm willing to try it again. I'm not willing to consider Saxon for the same reasons that CLE isn't working. Open to Christian or secular. Any input welcome. :)
  20. My husband works in IT, and yes, he always negotiates (as have I in every job I've had, other than government in which the pay is fixed.)
  21. There is a new 80s and 90s dance program aimed at beginners that looks cheesy but I've heard it's really fun. It's called You V2. Sent from my Moto G (4) using Tapatalk
  22. I'm not a coach but I love it and use it. I started out with the 21 Day Fix DVDs. It's very do-able for a wide range of fitness levels. When Beachbody on Demand came out, I purchased a year-long subscription for $99. You can access all Beachbody workouts anytime you want. It's fantastic. I can use it on my Smart TV, phone, computer. There's really something for everyone with everything from gentle yoga to hard-core weightlifting and everything in between - dance workouts, MMA-inspired programs, etc. I like being able to try different programs without committing to purchasing the DVDs. I love the variety. I'm a happy customer, but I don't use Shakeology, their nutritional shake. They do push it and I suspect that's where they make a lot of their money but the price is just way too much for me to even consider. I have a coach who runs accountability groups on Facebook and that's been helpful to me. She's not someone I know in real life, but we have mutual friends.
