  1. If your mom is mentally competent I don't think you can do anything. It sucks but it is her money to do with what she likes. Now if she is not competent you can step in.
  2. I'd be concerned about my children at home.
  3. Maybe I am too old school but I don't think you are doing your son any favors by years of ignoring his bad behaviors. Neither of his brothers like him and you want your dh to spend time with him so you can get a break from him these are serious red flags. It won't be long before it will no longer matter if he is grounded from his friends because any quality friends will no longer want to hang out with him and he will seek out other like minded jerks and then the real trouble will begin. I was the younger sibling in your example and haven't spoke to the parents (or brother) that allowed me to be bullied and verbally abused in many years.
  4. In addition to many listed here I listen to: Strangers Risk (x rated) Death, Sex & Money Love + Radio Snap Judgement Fugitive Waves Go Fork Yourself The Splendid Table Spilled Milk The Ziglar Show Chicken Thistle Farm Coop Cast Radio Diaries
  5. I agree. We haven't had a debit card in years. After being "double dipped" more than once with various transactions we cancelled it. If my credit card rings a purchase through more than once or is stolen I still have all my money while we dispute the charges. I follow Dave Ramsey's principles but disagree with him that a debit card is just as safe as a credit card.
  6. Agreeing with Quill not offensive in the least.
  7. Dave Ramsey's major philosophy is to live and GIVE like no one else. If you listen to his podcasts he encourages giving as much as a secure future. He wants people to be financially free so they can give to others. ETA: Dave Ramsey is very open about the fact he cut his teeth on Larry Burkett also. He calls it God's & Grandma's advice on money.
  8. He made really bad financial decisions early in life and filed bankruptcy when either his oldest or second oldest was an infant. His kids grew up with beater cars, beans & rice and thrift stores.
  9. The real question is how many layers of wallpaper are on the walls.
  10. I'm dealing with them now & Terro seems to be working.
  11. I'd expect my kids to be polite to avoid drama. To me that means responding when someone speaks to you and/or greeting someone when you see them.
  12. Agreed. What reasonable person could honestly believe that the Ipad was theirs to keep if contact info was on it. Even most 10 year olds know that electronic equipment is valuable. And Bimo must be pretty morally corrupt to even consider that it was his to keep.
  13. This except I don't think about side doors or anything else. And I never look inside others vehicles to see if they have car seats or whatever. I cannot imagine someone parking their vehicle to deliberately cause trouble for someone else.
  14. Why does his opinion hold more weight?
  15. My dad is an alcoholic and my mom has been morbidly obese my entire life. She has most likely been on every diet out since 1970 and it ended with WLS in 2006. Even WLS was a failure she lost some weight but not nearly anywhere close to what was needed. She has since regained it. She became obsessed with food after the surgery she carried a bag with her everywhere she went with crackers, nuts, beef jerky etc. She truly ate every few minutes because she said she was always sick/shaky. Every moment was planned around where we could stop to eat a meal. It was crazy. So yeah I watch my weight and what I eat. I don't drink alcohol and when I did it was maybe 1/2 a beer every couple of years. I eat lchf my energy and quality of life became 100x better.
  16. Have you ever tried a lchf way of eating? Even as a young adult eating a carby breakfast had me starving shortly after. I was better off not to eat until lunchtime. My diagnosis of diabetes came after gaining 30 lbs in three years. I was starving all the time. Did I mention I ate mostly vegetarian/whole grain because I thought that was healthy. Once I started lchf my cravings went away. I should add that up until age 43 I had been a healthy weight without the hunger issues. But the pre-diabetes caused the issues. Could you buy a blood glucose monitor and check your numbers. http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/has good info.
  17. I also weigh, measure & track everything I eat.
  18. If I eat carbs that is how I am. As long as I stay lchf I am satisfied. I gained 30 lbs in 3 years before I discovered I was diabetic.
  19. Yes I did misunderstand. My dh is like your ex. He is 6'5" and has a 30-32" waist. He eats a crazy amount and is thin. I have had to get over being really emotional when he eats chips or ice cream or some other food I used to love because I was spending to much energy being angry with him over it.

Don't eat corn, peas or winter squash. Crookneck & zucchini are fine. Bloodsugar101.com has really good info. A lot of doctors are not well informed on diabetes diets they tell you what to eat based on the theory you are taking the meds or insulin. I have found I have to do all my own research drs were pretty useless.
  22. So I guess I am really lucky that after I eat I am satisfied and never hungry. I eat three meals a day and most days a cup of hot tea in the afternoon with a small amount of almonds or macadamia nuts. Occasionally I'll add one square of 90 % Lindt chocolate (a serving is 4 square but I limit to 1).
