  1. This sums it up for me also. I will not contact anyone about dh or our children either. And I have made it clear to my dh not to contact or inform them of my sickness or death. I have no relationship or contact with them now and I cannot imagine the stress of them being around while I am either dying or grieving for my spouse. And mental illness, alcoholism and pills are involved with my & dh's families. We chose a different life.
  2. I feel exactly like he does. No funeral or anything. My dh & kids know to cremate me and put my ashes in a flower/butterfly/bird area that I have on our property. I do not want any extended family around at all. No weird trying to disappear notions I am just a private person.
  3. No. She said sil calls her or she contacts sil and they get together to exchange gifts, have coffee, etc.
  4. We also unhooked our ice maker and use trays. The noise from the ice maker would wake me up at night so I just dump about 16 trays every couple of days.
  5. Cherokee Purple Red Brandywine Juliette Sweet Million (cherry) Mortgage Lifter Roma (for sauce) San Marazino (for sauce) Black Krim You should be able to find these at farmers markets.
  6. Nope. My mother, two sisters-in-law, grandmother and at least 5 or 6 aunts are currently or have retired from teaching. Not bashing at all. Just stating facts.
  7. When I was in 8th grade a male teacher was fired for having a sexual relationship with a student. A male in my family had a sexual relationship with a female English teacher in 9th grade. He rode his bike to her apartment for "tutoring". I didn't know about until he told me as adults. When I was in 10th/11th grade one of my close friends had a sexual relationship with a teacher. She told her parents that she was going to night school for extra credits and would meet him at a motel or his house 2x's a week. I was horrified and it ended our friendship because she later involved me without my knowledge in the coverup. He was fired and she left the school for the rest of high school. Her parents still to this day will not speak to me or even make eye contact when I see them. I had absolutely nothing to do with it. In the early 90's a was a elementary school secretary and a male teacher was arrested for molesting several 5th grade girls who were in an extra curricular that he ran. Just last week my neighboring county arrested a high school coach/teacher (male) for sexual relations with several female students. Yep all four of my children were home schooled from day one.
  8. My fiddlehead ferns pop up all over the place and I have to dig them up.
  9. But when your dividing up hostas or daylilies you need someone to give them to so they just don't die if you have nowhere to plant them.
  10. I have too many to count perennials around my yard that have come from other people in my life. I didn't ever ask for them but they were offered because people know we have lots of flower beds. My dh often has to dig up perennial beds in his line of work and he has brought them home from all over Kentucky. They are normally from businesses that are going to have a landscaper redo the plants so he is extra care when removing them in order to bring some home. I have even traded eggs and veggies for plants. I love to look at the plants and remember where they came from.
  11. Seresto flea/tick collars have worked here for two years. They are about $60 per collar and last 8 months. We were going to use the oral meds but were concerned about seizures being a side effect in some dogs.
  12. It would be a crime here too because I have well water. In the summer/fall when it is dry I sometimes have to only do laundry every 3rd or 4th day. Also my FL/HE washer would run forever with just one outfit the spin cycle would go on and on. And too much detergent causes issues. I'd also be annoyed with the paper towel being thrown on the counter and I am 48 yo and OVER cleaning up after people. And after I asked her not to mix all the nuts and she informed that she was it would have been ugly. Dh would have had to take her to a hotel that night.
  13. This kind of stuff is why I direct anyone wanting to visit to a local cabin, B&B or hotel. I have not allowed (yep allowed) anyone to stay overnight in our home in at least 7 or 8 years. It is my hill to die on.
  14. The small policies he talks about don't require a health check.
  15. Dave Ramsey suggest for those who are not insurable (because of cancer etc)that you should get a lot of small policies like the ones through your checking/savings account, different organizations you may belong to etc. I cannot remember all the places you can get them but it may be on his website or you could ask him on his twitter or facebook.
  16. I must have some serious RBF because no one ever made any comments to me. I used them (I had the one that went around the childs wrist, not a backpack) at places like Disney or the mall. My kids were not bolters I just liked the fact that my toddler could walk and not have to be confined to a hot stroller. We also used baby backpacks and Snuggli's. My 6'6" dh carried all four kids in these different things over the years.
  17. Yes, no sn over 15 years ago. My oldest two were 13 months apart then 7 years between #2 and #3. 18 months between 3 and 4. I used the child leash when we went places so I could push a stroller or babywear youngest and toddler could walk beside me.
  18. Or how horrible to watch your family all eat 3 or 4 times a day. And you do what (?) while they all enjoy a meal together. They talk and interact and you just sit and watch and the message is loud and clear that you can't eat because your fat. I was in my 40's and had never had a weight issue before when I had to change the way I ate. It was (and sometimes still is) hard. I can't imagine doing it at 12 yo because I look different from everyone else in the family.
  19. That sounds like an eating disorder waiting to happen for a 12 year old girl. I'm 48 and that would not work for me I have to keep my blood sugar stable throughout the day and all night while I sleep.
  20. Yes. I gained approx 40lbs in one year that is when I tried WW and found out I was pre diabetic. Once I started eating lchf I lost the weight, stabilized my numbers and feel so much better. Also with lchf I just eat lc without measuring, weighing etc. If I am hungry I eat.
  21. I tried Weight Watchers about 5 years ago and I was hungry all the time and my blood sugar would crash within 2 hours of eating a super healthy meal. Come to find out I was pre diabetic and WW was killing me. I was so sick, shaky and starving all the time. I was not eating processed junk, but real food within my points. I was on the lowest point rung because I didn't have much to lose. I have to eat low carb to keep my blood sugar under control, stay off meds and maintain a healthy weight. I can now after many years add in a healthy carb occasionally (Trim Healthy Mama style) but I will never be able to eat carbs combined with low calories like WW promotes. Honestly she has probably reached her full height and already struggles with weight issues and pre diabetes. She is never going to be able to eat what she wants and be healthy. I know you said low carb was unsustainable but it may be her only option unless she wants to be on meds. I was in my early 40's when I had to completely change the way I ate and it was hard. I had never been over weight or sick and now I was. I struggled with anger over the situation. I know it is hard but I didn't even realize how sick I had become until after I changed my eating and my blood sugar was under control. The constant highs and lows will keep you hungry all the time. www.lowcarbfriends.com probably has a lot of info that could help.
  22. We have 60 acres, a well for water & four 300 gallon rain barrels attached to gutters for watering. I grow hundreds of pounds of fruit & vegetables a year. I rarely go to the store in summer/fall. We eat fresh, can, freeze and I give a lot away. We also have our own beef, chicken, pork & eggs. Dh also kills a couple of deer per year. I can lots of different tomato products (salsa, sauce, pizza sauce, Italian relish, roasted tomatoes etc.), make at least two types of pickles, pickled jalapenos, spicy sweet jalapenos. I typically can over 100 quarts of green beans every year. Today I made a chocolate/strawberry jam with strawberries from the garden. We have strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, apples, peaches, plums, sweet and sour cherries and pears. In the veggie garden I have 8 varieties of tomatoes, 2 types of yellow squash, zucchini, several types of lettuce, 2 different cukes (one for pickling & one for eating), 1/2 runner green beans and Ky Wonders, cabbage, several kinds of peppers, baby limas and sweet corn. Maybe more i am forgetting. I forgot asparagus but it is done for the year. I didn't do broccoli or cauliflower this year because it was cold & rainy and I was lazy.
  23. We've had quite a few of her recipes and they are really good.
