  1. I think it is important for them to have friends as well but I have realized they don't need a whole classroom of them just a few consistent ones - that is the real challenge. We happen to live in a neighborhood where most of the kids go to different schools but gather together each afternoon/evening and play outside for hours and have since an early age. I also use to drive long distances to hangout with other homeschoolers and realized my kids would never really be able to make long term friends if we didn't find groups closer to home. I recently joined our counties home education program and have found some local families that they can grow close to over the years. It's hard but don't stop looking for that right group, they are out there somewhere.
  2. When my boys act up I try to remember they are constantly growing and changing. They have bad hormonal days, just like I do. It doesn't excuse behavior but helps me remember they have bad moments. Maybe your younger one feels left out, mine little one does and tells me so...says everyone talks over him (which is true, sadly), so I'm trying to be more sensitive to his needs. Parenting is hard at times, tomorrow might just be a better day for all of you - I hope so.
  3. :iagree:Wait until she matures a little more, unless you are required by law.
  4. :iagree:Thank you for the book tip, my husband and I recently started eating Paleo but haven't been able to find a good recipe book.
  5. I would take it as well, if I missed mine. The alternative is worse.
  6. The boys need to read 'x' amount of pages one day on the weekend but other than that we're off. I need the break :-)
  7. Yes, we decided to register with our county home education program so the boys can learn other subjects that I have struggled getting to while still trying to cover the basics. I feel a huge weight has been lifted with the supplemental subjects.
  8. Not sure if this is what you are looking for but I use Bookmooch sometimes. It's free and great if you can find the book you are looking for.
  9. Lutheran. Attend a liturgical service then attend Sunday School. They read and discuss Bible stories and then some sort of activity related. They are 2nd & 4th.
  10. Weights last night plus cardio. Today cardio and abs and now I feel great ;-)
  11. We live in California and my oldest son has outdoor allergies. Medicines make him angry and give him headaches. I have seen improvement in him using flax oil, fish oil, probiotics and vitamins. Strengthening his immune system seems to be working. Also changing his diet to include more fruits and veggies.
  12. Loose green tea, use a strainer and then add honey....DEEEELISH :-)
  13. I think they all do it at some point, it's how they figure out who they are. It's probably more important how we react to it then what they say. My 9yo has started giving me more attitude and tone lately and I am so glad I have listened to the Love and Logic audios over the years, they have helped tremendously. I don't have it all together yet but I know I respond much better then if I hadn't educated myself about how to deal with an ever developing child.
  14. We use a plastic bin from Target and keep everything for school in it. Makes it easy to carry from one room to the next.
