  1. My sister-in-law’s elderly parents both had something that totally resembled the flu. They each went to the doctor a couple of times, were tested and told it was flu-like but not actually the flu, and that it was something going around in this area (NC). Her father in particular was very sick, and ended up needing antibiotics for a secondary infection. I hope you feel better soon.
  2. We have a ReliOn that's several years old and still seems to work fine.
  3. This little guy rules the roost here —
  4. A few years ago I had a chronic problem with choking and coughing. The coughing fits would come seemingly out of the blue. I had to pull over while driving many, many times. Mine was due to silent reflux.
  5. We bought our first RV in 2007 (a 35' Class A) and traded it in on on our second one (a 21' Class B) in 2016. I'll be glad to try to answer any specific questions you have. There's little about RV'ing that's hard, but of course there is a learning curve. Most experienced RV'ers are very happy to help, so don't hesitate to ask someone if necessary. Do be aware that most gas Class A and Class C RV's are already very close to being overweight when they come out of the factory. So I'd advise packing as lightly as possible, and especially think twice about whether or not you need anything very heavy (and that is extra true if you're going to have nine people in it!!). Until you get used to driving it assume it will take twice as long to stop as you think it will. Take a good tire gauge and check them regularly.
  6. I updated to 13 and 13.1 midday on Tuesday. It took about an hour in total, as it first did 13 and then 13.1 (they weren't rolled into one update). I've had no problems at all, and I really like dark mode.
  7. Refresh Mega 3 Those work FAR better for me than anything else I've tried, and I think I've tried about all of the major brands. At my eye doctor's suggestion I keep them in the refrigerator (cool drops are more soothing) and I recap and re-use the vials until the drops are gone. There are no preservatives in the individual vial products, but she (my doc) says it's fine to re-use them as long as you use a vial up within about 48 hours. If you use drops more than four times a day you really need to use the preservative free kind, because otherwise you'll be getting too much of the preservative and that alone can be irritating. What works best may depend on what's causing your dry eye, though. Mine is RA, possible Sjogren's disease, hypothyroidism and probably some general aging, too. Excessive tearing happens with dry eye because there are different types of tears. Some are hydrating and some aren't. If you aren't producing enough of the hydrating type you can get an over production of the non-hydrating tears. (That's a very elementary, too-early-in-the-morning-and-not-yet-caffeinated explanation. )
  8. I don't have a good answer. I'm 100 percent for freedom of the press, but of course most of what we have nowadays is really entertainment, not true journalism. I do think things were better in this regard when the fairness doctrine was in place. But as @Arctic Mama pointed out, lots of other changes have happened since it was overturned. So my perception may be much more correlation than causation. (And FWIW I believe the Fairness Doctrine was abolished in 1987, during Reagan's presidency.)
  9. ^^This.^^ Changing up the lacing technique can make a massive difference in how shoes fit.
  10. My father was the oldest of five. He was born in 1920. My mother was his second marriage, and I was their youngest child. He was 43 when I was born, I'm 56 now.
  11. I'm a newcomer to FB, having just joined a few months ago. But the above is pretty much what I try to do/remind myself of. I try to think of a person's FB page as their own home, where they're free to be as ignorant/hypocritical/whatever as they wish.
  12. My advice still stands. Why pay for what is essentially disability insurance for just one condition, when--probably for no or not much more cost--you could get a policy that covers any disabling condition? It makes no sense at all.
  13. I think cancer insurance, or any insurance for specific medical conditions, is mostly a scam. IME (DH was diagnosed with stage IV cancer two years ago, which is the sum total of my experience with these things) a much better use of the money would probably be disability insurance and/or mortgage disability insurance.
  14. FWIW, I was diagnosed with sero-positive RA last year and have never had any x-rays done. But I am sero-positive, have a strong family history of RA and other AI illnesses, and had what the rheumy called a "classic onset." So it's not like there was any question for me. The points system referenced in the quote @Arcadia posted is called the Disease Activity Score or DAS28. My rheumy uses it, but it's not the be-all-end-all for him. Just another piece of information. One beef I have with it is that it doesn't count affected joints in the ankles or feet.
  15. Many people are diagnosed with sero-negative RA. And your symptoms sure sound like it could be RA. I'd ask for a referral to a rheumatologist.
  16. Thinking about all who are affected. Some of the things I'm seeing on the news look pretty bad.
  17. With my rheumatologist's blessing I started taking turmeric right around the first of the year. 500 mg. twice a day is his recommended dosage. Unfortunately, I've not noticed that it's made a bit of difference for me, and I'm going to stop taking it as soon as I finish up the current bottle. I haven't noticed any side effects that I could attribute to the turmeric, but my primary problem is RA and I'm on three rather strong medications currently (two DMARDs and one biologic). So it's hard to know what's causing what. For me OA is a relatively minor issue. But I have multiple relatives with worse OA than me who believe turmeric helps them a lot, so I'm thinking it may be more beneficial for OA than RA. It's definitely worth trying. We've had at least one thread before where brands were recommended, so you might want to search for it.
  18. I'm about halfway through it right now and I really like it. I can't wait to find out what happens.
  19. I agree with @Chris in VA -- It could simply be that kitten finds the bed a desirable surface. But you also want to make sure you have plenty of boxes. The general ideal rule is one for each cat plus one more. So ideally with two cats you have three litter boxes. And preferably in at least a couple of different locations, not clustered together. You could also try feeding her on the bed (the theory being that cats don't eliminate where they eat). Also, you can't assume it's not a UTI. I don't know of any vets who do a urinalysis as part of a regular check up. And even if one was done, if it was more than a few days ago she could have developed one. You may have to do a bit of retraining by isolating her in a small room with a litter box. I'd do it for at least a week.
