This dd hates the Usborne & Kindfisher Books (tried to use them for ancient history this year). Hmm.. Might think about just using it anyways. ;) The VP class sounds wonderful! But for $600 (plus materials?), I don't think it's gonna happen.. :001_huh: Thought about Sonlight, but doesn't it use CHOW? ... have to look at it more. Is that a 3 year course? My dd is 11, will be 12 in the fall. We did ancients this past year but I decided to finish world history to the present this year. She is a strong reader but she doesn't particularly like history. She likes reading from several books ("because it's boring to read from one book") but for my own sanity I need a spine. She enjoys notebooking, so that will be included. Thought about using SOTW as a spine but we did them when she was younger and she doesn't want to again. Any ideas? It doesn't matter if it's secular or from a christian perspective. :001_smile:

We usually go on a big shopping trip (at the mall 2 hours away) about 2 times a year, but she'll pick out some things here and there at our very limited local stores.

We did ancients last year in 8th grade but it was on a 9th grade level. I vote for SWB's HOAW along with MOH 1 and lots of extra books. :001_smile:

My dd14 has taken Algebra 1, Biology, Astronomy and Spanish 1 this past year. They're all highschool classes and at public school the kids get credit for those classes on their transcripts. I'm wondering if you can do that? I was thinking maybe a seperate box on her transcript saying "taken before 9th grade" and list the class. What did you do?

I've already ordered this for my rising 9th grader this year. We did ancients this year and I don't think she should have a problem going into WHL. I'm wondering about the fine arts plans in appendix? It says "The lesson plans also include recommendations for completing a fine arts credit." Any one using them? Can you give me an example of some assignments or resources? I could wait to look at it myself but I want to know! :tongue_smilie: :bigear:

What about the Complete Book of Reading? I have the 3rd-4th one and I'm really thinking about using it this year, it covers some phonics also. I believe there is a 5th-6th grade one for reading and a grammar one too. They're on amazon, not very expensive and aren't to time consuming.
