  1. :iagree: My dd will be 12 in the fall and she's in 6th. Just let him go at his own pace, I wouldn't worry about it at all. :001_smile:
  2. That's great! :001_smile:
  3. We're using The Art of Poetry with an older 6th grader and 9th grader this year and like it so far. :001_smile:
  4. Mine fill out planners after they do assignments (or things that can be counted as school work). My oldest just writes other school work out in her MFW lesson plans. We aren't required to do it but I like to have it..
  5. Yes, we found it actually helped them focus better because it blocked all the background noise. Before dd11 started listening to music during school work every little noise distracted her and she couldn't focus even if it was quiet (she said it was to quiet :001_huh:). I also play classical music for my younger kids working in the school room, they like it. :)
  6. We slowly start adding in subjects (already started that) and I hope to be in full swing by next week but more then likely not until after labor day.
  7. This board is not good for my credit card! I had no idea it was being published.. we still have 2 years before physics but now I want it. :glare: :tongue_smilie:
  8. Kind of glad I'm not the only one. :tongue_smilie: We are two weeks in (haven't even started every subject yet) and I switched.. Grammar- Easy Grammar to KISS History- I've been all over the place.. first I planned on BJU World Studies 7 with books/videos but it was going to be to much, so I decided to wing it with just the books. I realized we need more structure today when my dd was so lost on what to do after she was done reading, so I bought Memoria Press Famous Men of the Middle Ages and Modern Times and the books will just be supplemental.. Whew! :001_huh: Science- We're still using the same curriculum, Creek Edge Press chemistry & great scientist Task Cards but I'm going to have to beef up some of the assignments and also bought two experiment kits.. Milestones in Science and Chemistry 300.
  9. :iagree: If you really get into Magic School Bus though (Like mine did!) you can use these kits along with the books and videos. We're doing the Chemistry one this year as a supplement to our other science curriculum :) ETA: Also agree about Bill Nye! Mine love them too.
  10. This year for 9th grade: Spanish 2 with a tutor because I can't keep up with it and she needs someone who is fluent. Science History & Honors Chemistry it's through co-op but the main focus on co-op day is labs. The teachers uses an online classroom program for lectures and assigning homework. DD loves science and the teacher is fabulous and I don't have much background so I want to make sure she has what she needs if she decides to go into a science field (which is almost positive). For 7th Grade we're outsourcing Writing, Latin conversational class (just a supplement) and a class of her choosing through co-op. I cannot teach her writing.:glare: I don't speak Latin and the other is just for fun! :001_smile:
  11. I would say pregnancy for all of mine except my 11 year old. She didn't sleep and cried all the time until she was a year old.
  12. Oh, yes I'm scared too!! (First highschooler)
  13. Thanks for your thoughts. We're starting to put together resources and book lists for the levels we're working on. When it's done we may just give the download away for free. :001_smile:

Here it is: World Literature (1)- MFW WHL Algebra 2 (1)- Video Text Algebra New Testament & Church History (1)- MFW WHL World History (1)- MFW WHL Honors Chemistry (1)- Holt Mcdougal Zumdahl, World of Chemistry with Co-op/Outside Teacher Health (.5)- ACE (Got this done over the summer) Spanish 2 (1)- ETA, Changed to: Breaking the French Barrier with tutor Fine Arts (1)- MFW WHL plans. Plus some extra books, research projects, etc. Science History (.5)- Co-op Class using Teaching Company Lectures and various books/resources Introduction to Poetry (.5)- The Art of Poetry ETA her extra activities- Youth Group, Key Club, Science Olympiad, Anime Club, Choir, Flute & Piano Lessons/Recitals and soccer (Rec in fall, JV in Spring). :svengo: What is your 9th grader doing? :001_smile:
  15. Planning for next year and the following already.. We are going to do American History over 2 years. She'll be using Hakims The Story of US as the spine but I'm going to flesh it out to spread over 2 years. This will be for 7th/8th grade history for a dd who is advanced, loves to read and loves biographies. Suggestions so I can start planning? :001_smile:
