  1. Kids definitely change between 5th and 9th grades!! Heck, mine seem to change over the summer. :tongue_smilie: However if you're just pondering your options, the first that comes to mind is KONOS higschool.
  2. I did not know about this! I think I'm going to use it alongside American history in 7th and 8th grade. It looks great! Thanks. :001_smile:
  3. I've been thinking ahead to my dd14's science sequence. It is her favorite subject and I have no doubt she'll go into the field. She doesn't know what but she's talked about Biology or Engineering. DD made a list of science classes she wants to take and this is the order I think she should take them in. Here's what I'm thinking- 9th Grade- Honors Chemistry, Science History Marine Biology (over the summer) 10th Grade- AP Environmental Science, Forensics Shipwreck Science (over the summer) 11th Grade- Honors Physics, AP Computer Science Zoology (over the summer) 12th Grade- AP Biology, Sports Medicine Wondering if anyone has anyone opinions on this sequence. Does the order really matter? The biggest thing is math for physics, right? She'll be taking calculus in 11th grade.
  4. :iagree: We have tons of beaches in our area. We love them but if they were like that, I'd hate them! Sorry your vacation didn't go as expected, at least now you know! :001_smile:
  5. I haven't seen a 6th grade thread. I'm counting this year as 6th grade for my dd who will be 12 in November. I made a lot of last minute decisions, not exactly what I thought we'd be doing but here it is. Math- MUS Pre-Algebra, HoE, LoF Grammar- KISS Writing- IEW SWI with Co-op Spelling- R&S Spelling 7 Poetry- The Art of Poetry Formal Literature- Progeny Press Guides; Island of Blue Dolphins, The Hiding Place and Number the Stars. Bible- Apologia Who Am I? Plus some Memorization work History- ETA: Plans have changed.. I decided I could not just wing it and bought Memoria Press Famous Men of the Middle Ages and Modern Times. She'll still read some books of the list and do notebooking and a timeline. Geography/Art- Mapping the World with Art, Sheppard Software Science- Creek Edge Press Chemistry/Great Scientist Task Cards (beefed up assignments), Milestones in Science & Chem 300 Experiment Kits. Latin- Third Form Latin Art- Meet the Masters Music-Clarinet Lessons and Recitals, Informal Composer Study Logic- Fallacy Detective and The Thinking Toolbox Extra Curricular- Youth Group, Cheerleading Team, Dance Classes and Gymnastics
  6. We use sheppard software too. My kids do it for fun :D
  7. :iagree::iagree: I'm pretty sure we're up to 20 by now. We have all different bookshelves.. I only think we have two that are matching and they're mostly from garage sales or bought randomly at places I don't remember so I'm no help with that.
  8. What about CLE Kindergarten 2? I agree with the project idea. When my 8 and 6yo's were 5 and 3 I got ahold of some of that HUGE paper like schools use. I put it on the hallway wall and in the school room and they had at it with paint/art supplies. If they wanted more school work type I'd tell them to do things like to Write their name, address, all the words they can think of in 5 minutes, shapes, numbers, etc. It was a life saver and kept them busy (and they thought they were doing school).
  9. Thanks! I decided to splurge on two science experiment kits, inchimals, some more kumon workbooks, drawing books, Q-Ba-Maze, Sloppy Stopper Activity Mat, some history kits and some math manipulatives. :001_smile:
  10. We do a "Not back to school day" the first day ps starts. It's like a holiday around here. They get gifts (school supplies, clothes including pj's). We also do a scavenger hunt, go out for brunch, go on a field trip somewhere, take pictures, everyone writes their favorites down/what they're excited about and we don't do any school work!! :001_smile:
  11. I'd start on the 20th and just finish the work that wasn't completed this week, so you'd be back on schedule. Hope everyone feels better soon. :001_smile:
  12. Looks good to me. Hope you have a great year! :001_smile:
  13. I have money to spend. I know you guys can help me spend it.. We have our curriculum, just looking for fun stuff. :D
  14. :iagree: We have tons of traditions for our first day of school. It's a lot of fun. Make your own first day memories. :001_smile:
  15. :iagree: I knew nothing about pop culture when I was growing up and I was public schooled. My kids have always been homeschooled and they are up to date on pop culture. I'd just make a list of the people who make remarks and hide the posts from them.
