  1. I'm reading "Raising Cain" right now. Taking a break from all the HSing books is it "Raising Cain and his sister"? - fiction, it was a cute book. -The showerboard is a super cheap way to make a white board if you need one for your homeschool, brought to you by the boards here.... welcome!!
  2. I think the only thing left to do are; get a big white-board from home improvement store- also known as a shower board and share what you are reading and give us a horrible mil story, or how great your mil is story... oh, and how do you feel about cochroaches??
  3. Happy WW! sharing something funny one of my kids came up with...I noticed it one morning when I sat down to eat breakfast... WW-These crayons belong to:
  4. I watched it for about 15 minutes, then gave up...what I really wanted to watch was a show all about them, things they do to be interesting people, and above all- their beauty tips...how to they stay looking so great?? I wasn't so much interested in watching them swing on a trapeeze. just me...:tongue_smilie: they all looked amazing...just the 15minutes inspired me to work out...you could tell they all work out.
  5. Jeeves and Wooster- series takes place in the 1920's- Hugh Laurie Yes minister- British political humor series we also loved The thin man series- old black and white, Philadelphia story with Cary Grant, Midnight, a real favorite is Bachelor Mother with Ginger Rogers- a romantic comedy, she is really funny! Last time I checked it wasn't on dvd, we have it on vhs. Shop around the corner- Jimmy Stewart- You've got mail was a remake of... Nicholas Nickelby, has Anne Hathaway in it- just great. A more current one, I really liked "must love dogs". all I can think of right now, off the top of my head...
  6. good for you! I am impressed you did all that! Can you tell I am a horrible procrastinator?! I guess I am a worksheet person, I like to do a lot of reading, but yet I like to have a worksheet type thing to wrap it all up, kwim? I should be planning ahead right now, too..
  7. Sola Michella... falling on the floor laughing! That was sooo good!
  8. we have a house-ful of people this week, so mine is up kind of late.. but here it is- WW-Whatever you can do II happy wordless wednesday!
  9. I agree with Anita, I'd approach it as the whole family is cutting back on t.v.- I truly think all the Disney tween stuff is awful, we don't watch any of it- the Disney channel is one that is not allowed here. I wouldn't push the christian music, but maybe casually purchase one here, one there and listen to it in the car- then give it to her if she likes it. I would limit time kids spend walking around with headphones or ipods in their ears- it isolates them and removes them from family life and communication. I really think allowing kids to watch things that model disrespect and meanness to siblings- impacts their own behavior and thoughts. In our house we are kind to each other, and we don't watch anything that shows less than this (at least regularly).
  10. I have a book basket, it is library books only- we usually have about 20 at a time, and I need to know where they are and be able to find them when they need to go back. They are free reading books...tho once in a while if I see several science type books I might assign a report, and once in a while I assign a book report. Anything assigned from SOW or TOG are placed elsewhere on a special shelf, even library books, so they know where to look. it is a basket- actually a basket for fireplace logs, so it is sturdy.
  11. I vote tacky. What is she thinking? We once suggested the grandparents could chip in for horse camp for one of our daughters, instead of a birthday present...but even suggesting that made me feel uncomfortable- we didn't ask again- if they offered to help I would be tickled, everything is going up...but I figure we can either afford it or we can't...and we can save up for it all year, which I did this year. I think normal manners are not being handed down from the older generations to the younger anymore, I've noticed kids don't seem to understand the rule of waiting for the elevator to empty before barreling in...
  12. Winnie the Pooh on audio, The Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman book series, Jeeves and Wooster dvds if you've never seen Jeeves and Wooster, you can search for them on youtube, they are worth having.
  13. we loved The tale of Desperaux, one of the best audios we've ever listened to, the accents were awesome. Boston Jane was another funny one, we also really enjoyed Pollyana- even hubby liked that one. We also really liked Ella Enchanted- much better than the movie, very different, and it was read really well. we also really love Hank the Cowdog.
  14. mine is up, photo of my son on the submarine ride at Disneyland...I like how it came out. Wordless Wednesday- View it's so hard to be wordless...
  15. praying here. I enjoyed your post about him on your blog.
  16. My dad was that way as a parent, and he recently told me he regretted some of it- specifically he regretted the rule he had that he automatically would not give or get us anything we asked for...I guess to rule out begging and whining, but he realizes now that he robbed us of childhood wishes and dreaming. It sounds horrible, but we did get some things we wanted, the way we did it was to let mom know what we wanted for Christmas...we just could never ask him or let him know. I also bought and maintained my own car, upkeep, insurance and my own clothes and expenses since I was in highschool- I broke down numerous times and I swear I will not do that to my girls...and funny thing is, my dad would be horrified now if we raised them the way he did me...they are even bugging us about saving for their college...which for me, growing up in the school of hard knocks, was my responsibility. My dad did have a very hard upbringing, and he has done very well and is a hard worker.
  17. lol, I am enjoying this thread. I don't know many musicals, but I have to say that many mornings find me singing "little girls' from Annie... ...not a morning person here... Newsies, now that was great...going to go have to rent it for my kids...
  18. I'm pretty conservative- and I love Colbert!! I think many of us don't fit neatly into a mold, I guess... I would have voted for him for President!!
  19. wow, what a great walk-thru, and with pictures no-less!! I know just enough to be dangerous, like embedding stuff to my blog, but I never would have figured out what the mountain icon here at the forum is for. thanks!
  20. it won't be a problem, homeschooling is getting pretty common here- and so many of our school districts school year round, with different "tracks", you never know who is "on track" and who is "off track". If anyone asks, it is usually to strike up a conversation. We don't report to anyone here, no one is going to ask if you are registered or anything- unless again for conversation sake. you are going to have a blast here!
  21. I just love this board!:D What a very cool opportunity! I have to bring it up again, I loved your subject line...
  22. Liz, it's a duck- the statues of "Make way for duckling" in Boston. and Liz...your my B.F.F. !!! I do have 4 hens as pets.
