  1. I know this has been discussed before, but I can't find the thread.. anyone know of a place online to make and order laminated, picture, student i.d. cards? And how fast is the turnaround? thanks
  2. that was hysterical! Confession, I wouldn't have known what it was unless I saw it written out...
  3. I use blogger too, it's free, and easy to set up, I'm not a tech-y person either. You can set it to not be searchable on search engines, or you can take it a step further and make it so only people with a pass word can access it, or only people who have been invited. Mine is open to all, I like meeting the random people who stop by and leave comments. I don't list where I live anywhere, just the general area- and I made up names for my kids and dh. There is an informative blog called blogging basics 101, written by a couple of mom-bloggers, they discuss this and other issues-it's a helpful place. Here is a link to their "How do I start?" post
  4. no specific recommend to offer, but I would suggest you look for one under $100. Young teens are prone to lose stuff or drop it. We bought our 13 year old a camera around Christmas time, it was a canon, I think for about 89$- really anything more than 4megapixels looks really good, and is plenty good for a first camera. We have a mac too, and she downloads on our computer. I ordered ours online at walmart, it came bundled with an extra memory card. I see good deals at Target all the time too.
  5. You've already talked to them, and they have decided to ignore you. I'd have them towed right away. when they come over looking for their car, very innocently, with big eyes.."oh, was that your car?! I am so sorry, dh had it towed-he didn't realize it belonged to you....we've had problems with people parking illegally on our property and dh decided we had to handle it. Here's the phone number of the tow company so you can reclaim it. Ba'bye." Big smile and sweetly close the door.
  6. not going, but Shannon of Rocks in her dryer is going to be there, and she's teaching a class.
  7. I really, really, enjoyed How the Irish saved civilization - I learned much world history I had missed out on it seems... it was a great read, and I learned much. I read it after my trip to Ireland, I wish I had read it first. We were able to see the book of Kells a few years ago, just incredible!
  8. welcome to blogging! Your blog-name is very amusing. I really like the scrapbook page pic you have on your side-column, I 've never figured out how to place clever/creative things like that into my blog...
  9. I'm drooling over these dragon wings this autumn fairy costume, with wings is beautiful tulip fairy wings I can't decide if I like these pink fairy wings best, or the dragon fly wings best... I love this catalog, never actually ordered anything from them, prices are really high...but the wings might be worth having around for play times and such.
  10. Land's end has some that reach the knee- it might have been in the uniform section, but I'm pretty sure it was both regular clothes and uniforms- they were skorts. I look for those, we have to have knee length or longer around here, so I cheer when I actually see them. Top of knee length At knee length uniform Below the knee length (we have this one) above knee- on sale there are actually several listed "above knee length" which are still longer then most you see in stores, I didn't list them all, but go on over and look around.
  11. Ha!! Tell me where, and I will show up with a sign... It would be refreshing to listen to a speech that actually had a point to make.
  12. Thank you everyone for your replies, they were very helpful! Breann, I don't think you need a coupon, they are just on sale over at their website.
  13. I am looking at the courses taught by Lingwood Thompson from Bellflower highschool. He has "Early American History: native Americans through the Forty-Niners" and also "World History: the fertile crescent to the American Revolution." They are on sale right now, I was thinking these might be an interesting way to cement our history courses. anyone, anyone? here are the links: World History American history I want to add that they are courses taught on DVD...
  14. I haven't used the macbook, so I can't vouch for the keyboard- my mac is a desktop, but I have to put in a vote for anything mac. My pc was crashing all the time- my mac always works. I think you will get used to the keyboard, and you will love being able to move around with it. You might even get some free nights out and head to a starbucks or Barnes & Nobles with it. I am saving up for a macbook, hopefully I will get one next year. Let us know how you like it, if you get one.
  15. we've liked it pretty well- I thought it was a good idea for my son who loves any kind of game on the computer, and for our bonus student who has an auditory processing disorder. It does the job, and is interesting. Being able to hear the correct phonics sounds is a plus, and the little boy voice that says "good job" is very soothing. Our big frustration is that you get reward 'stickers' , the best way I can describe them and they seem to be tied into how fast you get the correct answer- when we figured that out, my son was inspired to try really hard but the program itself seems to run slow between tasks and he could never earn the 'top' sticker. I sat and helped him through a session, and it seemed to be the program's fault, not my sons. we are paid through till winter, I am not sure if we will renew or go back to the workbooks. I'm still on the fence.
  16. Here's mine Wordless Wednesday, Egress with my oldest dd away at horse camp, I seem to be posting several photos of horses... Happy WW, everyone!
  17. I guess I'm an old prude too, we don't do sleep overs at all- nada. It doesn't matter how nice the mom is,or the other kids- we just do not do them at all. I think it breeds a level of intimacy and/or casualness not at all wise. I kind of think picking them up at 3 a.m. equals sleeping over, just about. The Bible has many passages about foolishness- I cannot understand why church's love to set up situations like this that encourage and feed foolishness. just my 2 cents... :lurk5:
  18. I would want the read alouds to be tied into the history cycle, but- I would also like a list of age appropriate must reads not tied in. I am doing TOG right now, and I love the reading, but I don't want my kids to miss out on classic good books too- I have decided to assign a few good reads this fall, outside of our history reading...I will be gleaning from Sonlight catalog and Veritas press for ideas. I would love art to be tied in, too. And flashcards!!! something you mean to do, but forget about...
  19. yes, that would be me....:001_smile:
  20. wow, I really feel for you- that is a horrible situation. It always amazes me that the evil people will push for their own way and the 'good' people feel helpless. I am so sorry for you, and the situation you find yourself in. It sounds like you handled things well, it's just so incredible that it can all be twisted the way it has been. I think in your shoes, I would also quit- to protect myself and my girls. I do wonder if you should try to talk privately with someone in charge to let them know exactly what went down? I think private, so more froth won't be added to the situation- but so that someone high up will at least have the other side of things and will be able to be more discerning the next time things crop up with this girl-and I am sure things will keep happening. hugs to you. :grouphug:
  21. I am very conservative, politically- and I really enjoyed this book. The parts about Columbus made me very sad, and were hard to read, but I am really glad I read this book. There were spots where the author's liberalness peeked through, even one spot I remember when he suddenly threw out this jab at president Bush...but it did not detract from the book, (the jab was more funny to me-just dropped the way it was). the book was really well done, and I think we don't have to agree with an author politically to enjoy and learn from a well researched book. the book gave me much to think about.
  22. welcome, I hope you are feeling better soon- sending good thoughts your way! this board is a nice place.
  23. I am wondering if the previous owner used non-stick spray on it often..(which would be a no-no with an iron skillet, I'm thinking).we started having a problem with our regular non-stick pans getting a sticky residue, it was the non-stick spray. We asked at a cooking store about it, and we were told not to use the sprays on our good pans, that they have silicoln in them and that is what makes it sticky. I don't have a solution, sorry- I think the idea about heating it up in the oven might work.
  24. click over to see photos of her kids, they are a hoot! An OC Sitcom I don't know if they did it again, maybe she'll post some new pics...
  25. obviously I can't figure out the "quote" button...
