  1. We use clear plastic containers with lids. Each category has it's own container. If my dd wants to put several toys together in one container that is fine, but everything must have a place. When they were little, my dc could only play with one container at a time. I helped them pick them up.
  2. Redwall and other books in the series It's about animals but they live by a code of honor with great adventures, etc.
  3. I know I bookmarked or saved a list of American history documentaries available through Netflix, but I can't find it. Can someone please help me?
  4. How about math games that help to teach the theory, such as Rightstart Math Games? My dd is in 3rd grade. We just spent a month with picture books about multiplication. I got them all (and quite a few more) from the library.
  5. I was quite active for several months. I permanently deleted my account because: I was very concerned about privacy issues. I had several uncomfortable conversations when I accepted old friends as friends. I didn't like seeing "that side" of some of my family members. It wasn't a good use of time. It felt like gossip, which I need to stay away from. HTH!
  6. My older Flip has lasted years. A good friend purchased the new HD version and her videos look amazing!
  7. My ds needed vision therapy and we didn't have the $4000 the developmental optometrist was charging. We decided to start with Dianne Craft's vision therapy and have ds re-evaluated. Our plan was to save and pay for vision therapy at that point. After doing the therapy at home, all the problems were corrected! :) I highly recommended Dianne Craft's Brain Integration Therapy Manual while you're waiting. You may find you don't need the extra therapy.
  8. I know how frustrating it is. It has taken me a year and a half to find enough recipes that are gluten and nightshade free (potato, tomato, peppers, paprika) to make me feel like I can feed my family. :tongue_smilie: Here are a couple we like that I think you can eat (we modify them to fit what we can eat): Biggest Loser Turkey Meatballs with quinoa pasta (Ancient Harvest - has protein and fiber) Hawaiian Meatloaf (we use rice milk and Southern Homestyle Cornflake Crumbs)
  9. Our math troubles disappeared when we switched to Teaching Textbooks! :D
  10. I would move to be closer to friends and activities. We bought a home in the spring after looking in our current location and 15-20 minutes away. Even with only a 20 minute difference, I'm glad we choose to be closer to friends and activities. :)
  11. We love Dave Ramsey. I carry some of the envelopes with me and also consider them emergency money (I used to carry a $100 bill folded in my wallet in case of emergencies). By emergency, I mean all the power goes out in the whole city kind of emergency. I just recently bookmarked this wallet with envelopes!
  12. I'm curious too. My parents are buying the kids a Wii and I know my ds would love these games.
  13. My ds didn't care for Zenni Optical (online). We bought his last pair of glasses from Walmart for under $50. They work great and look really nice!
  14. Yes, 50 item gifts would probably be a big hit. My parents have given scratch off lottery tickets in the anniversary number.
  15. We love Sword Fighting too! Here are some other things we use to study the Bible too. We haven't been doing much of the stick figuring through the Bible, but both of my kids really enjoy it.
  16. How old are your dc? I love traditions that help us to stay focused on Jesus. Every year we celebrate Advent. Here are some of our Christmas traditions. We try to give experience gifts, such as tickets to see a musical with grandparents. One year, my dd received The Year of the Dollhouse. She loved that gift! :)
  17. Plan your meals around the grocery store sales. I check the sales each Wed. morning then plan my meals. This week, I got a good deal on ground turkey so we had turkey meatballs. I also found a good price on whole chickens so I made roasted chicken with carrots. Then, you buy on sale and freeze items. My family likes tilapia. I only buy it when the "Buy 1, Get 2 Free" is running so I get three packages for the price of one. If you try to buy all your meat and produce on sale, you'll save quite a bit of money and not even have to use coupons.
  18. Awesome! :hurray: It looks like you're off to a great start. I have an 11 ds too so I'll be following your blog. :)
  19. Hi Lisa, I think we've been where you are. I know it's difficult. We used to allow more screen time each day and unlimited video games at the grandparents' home. When my dc were upset about missing their screen time, we realized we needed to cut way back so screen time wasn't as important in their day. We cut it back to computer 20 min/day for fun, one half hour show/day, and video games only on holidays. It has really made a difference. HTH!
