  1. We don't have video games in our home. The grandparents have some and our dc can play on holidays. Most of our friends limit gaming if they know we are coming over. We don't ask for it and don't mind if our dc play once in a while with friends. Our dc know which kind of games are appropriate for them to play. We're strict about computer use and screen time here too. I think it's a healthy way to live. :)
  2. Oh. my. goodness. I'm so sorry, Heather. :grouphug: Good for you for walking away.
  3. My dd (8) has two and two sets of playhouses or whatever those things are called. I think she played with them for a week.
  4. I've been collecting faith-based holiday ideas and wanted a place to share them. I also have each blog entry automatically emailed to both sets of grandparents. They love it seeing the grandchildren. I now use it as a scrapbook too and had the last year printed through blurb.com. I haven't received the book yet. I can't wait! :)
  5. I hated having tile countertops. As others have posted, they are very difficult to clean.
  6. I remember middle school well, probably because I was in a GT program with GT classes for English, history, and math. My teachers loved to teach. I loved them and learning.
  7. How about a small exercise trampoline? My kids used to jump on one inside all the time.
  8. I understand where you're coming from, Sue. Sometimes we just can't cut anymore from the budget or find any new ways to save money. I don't think there's anything wrong with looking for a way to bring in extra money if your dh is supportive. I like the mom's morning out idea. You could do a small preschool-type time with Five in a Row or another curriculum. :grouphug:
  9. How about a hankerchief embroidered with her name? I carried one on my wedding and plan to let my dd or dils put their names on it and carry it too if they'd like.
  10. We changed back to regular bulbs after reading about the cleanup. We're stocking up now too.
  11. I'd put your current plans on hold and go with their interests. They can tie it all in later.
  12. I haven't seen it, thanks for the recommendation. :)
  13. Great idea! :) We like do a movie unit study with friends every summer so I bookmarked the pages. We're going to study American history through the wars (my ds' request). Perhaps your ds would be interested in something like that too. It would tie in well with the movies.
  14. The AZ homeschool conference had recorded attendance this year. :) Homeschooling is growing here. Of course, we're part of the "way down at the bottom of the list" in public schools as a state.
  15. I agree with the others who suggest to get rid of old toys when new ones come in. We're big fans of the clear plastic bins here. Like a previous poster suggested, only one or two bins out at a time! Also for holidays and birthdays, can you ask family for "experience" gifts? Tickets to a show, memberships to the zoo, etc.
  16. I had it for work from home. It was terrible. There was a delay so the other person and I would end up talking over each other.
  17. We allow 20 minutes of computer after school and 30 minutes on weekends. It's really been helpful to tie it in with completed schoolwork. ;) They can watch each other so I'm not much help to you there.
  18. I just finished reading aloud Understood Betsy and was devastated that it ended. :001_smile: I had been in a slump of not wanting to read aloud for over a year. (I read aloud. I just didn't like it.) I heard Carol Barnier speak about children being a blessing from God at our homeschool convention and something "clicked".
  19. That's awesome! I've never done it but it looks easy enough. :)
  20. Oh, I like the preview too. :) It looks like a nice program.
  21. To memorize the facts: TimesTales To help my ds increase speed: TimezAttack (we bought the CD and it's worth it) He has slowed down again though so I guess we need to work on them more. We're starting Life of Fred fractions too!
  22. Made it tonight for my family. They loved it. Great for gluten-free eaters! :D Thanks for sharing.
