We love FIAR books here! They are a great place to start. I'd wait for chapter books until your ds is interested. There's no hurry. -

Martinmas and/or St. Nicholas Day?
Julie in AZ replied to annlaura's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We celebrate St. Nicholas' Day each year. We make gingerbread cookies to share with friends or neighbors as St. Nicholas liked gingerbread. The kids receive a small gift. We read Gingerbread Baby and a book about St. Nicholas. -
We've noticed negative behavior too. We originally allowed video games at my parents, but it got to be too much so now we only allow video games at my parents on holidays. It makes the holidays fun! :) My parents are giving the kids a Wii this Christmas to keep and play at their home. I know our dc will love it. Our dc can also play at friends' houses, which is not very often as they like to have nerf wars and do other things when they get together.

I'm sorry to hear that. I don't have experience but I've been looking at purchasing it. I have a friend who added in books from the library to give it more depth. -

My dd loved receiving her Year of the Dollhouse Makeover where we worked on a room each month. We're trying for more "experience" gifts. :) -

My dentist recommends the WaterPik brand with the large container, not the small handheld kind.

My dentist told me about a conference he attended in which research was presented to show the great results of using a water pick with a drop or two of bleach (reguluar, unscented) in the water for gum issues. I started right away and haven't had any problems with my gums in years. Just another idea to try to prevent future problems.

Holiday Traditions
Julie in AZ replied to RainbowSprinkles's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We love Christmas traditions.:) Here are some ideas to get you started: We make a Jesse Tree Devotional and read through one book in the Jotham's Journey series (love it!). We send out Operation Christmas Child boxes and read Boxes for Katje every year. The kids receive Playmobil or Lego Advent calendars to open each day. We participate in an ornament exchange with other homeschoolers. We make gingerbread cookies, read Gingerbread Baby on St. Nicholas' Day as St. Nicholas enjoyed gingerbread. We pray for families as Christmas cards arrive. We have traveling wise men that move closer to the nativity each day. My kids still enjoy this one. We like to surprise a family with a gift left at their door. Last year, we made a nativity cookie scene for the first time. We make an annual Christmas craft with my mom. We have a Candle Nativity on Christmas Eve. The kids receive matching pjs. Have fun planning! -

My mom is in ICU and I was having trouble with my computer while in the hospital room with her. I thought it was more important to share the info. then worry about the font. -
We love A Child's Story Bible and Community Bible Study too. The Jesus Storybook Bible is a great Old and New Testament tie-in. I have all our favorite resources on my blog. HTH! :)

We’re trying Dianne Craft’s Smart Kids Who Hate to Write exercises for the brain. -
I think unit studies before the holidays work great! :D We do unit studies based on the holidays but I think one based on interests would work well too. We complete a Thanksgiving unit study then share a pilgrim dinner before Thanksgiving each year. The kids love it!
