  1. I blog about home schooling, life on an island in the marsh, and cooking at Hammock Tracks.
  2. I compare this addiction to the purchasing of organizational boxes when what we really need to do is get busy cleaning out the closet. In the case of the home school mother, we need to get busy figuring out what our children need to learn, how to make it palatable, help them through the frustration that comes with something challenging, and quit purchasing the next best curriculum.
  3. We've never done a co-op. It takes 40 minutes to drive into town and that means 80 minutes wasted in just travel time. Yes, I know we can listen to auido cds. The fact is not all my kids are at the same level and 80 minutes of school time spent in travel, per week, is not a good use of our time. I'd rather plan social time and leave school time at home.
  4. And I have posted bald eagle links on my blog. One is a link to a live eagle cam. You can leave it running on your computer all day. Maybe you and your kids will see the national symbol returning to her nest in Maine! -Savannah http://www.hammockhomeschool.blogspot.com
  5. Pink Jeep that she is riding around the yard, until the battery dies. - 5 year old daughter Army set - 9 year old son
  6. I am finally getting around to Christmas shopping today and it has sparked memories of my childhood. I remember a lot of presents and Santa surprises, but nothing compares to the blue bike I got when I was around 10 years old. So...I thought it might be fun if we shared. What do you remember as the ultimate Christmas gift? -Savannah http://www.hammocktracks.com
  7. I'd like to propose that your kids are probably not as far behind as you think they are. I think if you could just establish a little bit of a routine you'd find that some of your optimism would return. I find that when I am overwhelmed like this I start small - set a routine to get writing, math and Language done every day. When that is accomplished and steady I start adding in more slowly. I agree that the 2nd year is the most difficult. Things that are worth having are not easily attained...don't give up too easily. -Savannah http://www.hammocktracks.com
  8. Who has already purchased their bird? Who will end up thawing it all night in the sink of cold water? Who will end up eating late because they couldn't get the darn turkey thawed and cooked in time? LOL I love Thanksgiving, it is my favorite holiday. I do truly dislike shopping for Thanksgiving, though. I wish I could go and shop when the store is closed and my kids were at home. Then I could really be happy while I meandered the aisles! -Savannah http://www.hammocktracks.com
  9. Anyone have their's up yet? If not, when will you put yours up? We usually do it the first week in December but I am considering doing it before Thanksgiving. -Savannah http://www.hammocktracks.com
  10. I am with you...I exercise regularly - cycle and run and I move 50lb bags of feed. It is just amazing to me that after all I can do a twist caused this pain! I just turned 40 years old so I am going to attribute to old age too.
  11. I wish I could understand this. Yesterday I stood up from the table where we were doing school work and when I turned to get a book off of the shelf it was as if someone had stabbed me in the back. It always amazes me that such a slight movement can cause a back to go "out." And that is an interesting phrase too! My back felt more like it went "bent"...not out! Either way here I am...Yesterday morning I was young and spry without any pain and today I am bent over and feeling old. If I can make this pain stop I will not have any problem finding something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving! -Savannah http://www.hammocktracks.com
  12. We always watch the Macy's Day Parade on TV. I love it and Thanksgiving is my favorite day of the year. What are your traditions on this day that you enjoy? -Savannah http://www.hammocktracks.com
