  1. I'd say 2 hours a day at the most, depending on how long certain things take to accomplish things.
  2. You aren't the only one...I am like you and too many of the currciulums I"ve seen make it more like a religion lesson. No thanks. I have NEVER seen anything saying that the author is trying to convert kids to a way of thinking like hers....at least not in her books. She's made statements that people take out of context, but I have yet to see anything about an ulterior motive. If there was I would have never tried to use her books in the first place! What I liked about these books is their format and how they are presented...I like how they are written not in a little kid way and not in a talking down way. I did send a message to her asking how these could be done in a year, since in the Pre stage it's recommended that each book take 10 weeks. She said that the lessons could be stretched out to one or two a week maybe, go on different tangents and look up books that relate to the subject perhaps. I ended up going with a different program, but I was glad I took the time to really try to use her stuff. I may go back to this when the kids are older.
  3. Ehhh really? I've seen quite a bit in their books that say they certainly contributed. That is a different board thread and board though and I won't go further.
  4. I've never understood why I am supposed to not like someone's method of teaching or curriculum because of their beliefs. Opinions are not facts, and I see no fact-based reasons as to why this curriculum should not be used simply because he holds xyz belief. His actual CD's have old published resources that were written by others long before he was born-it isn't a curriculum written by him, it's a METHOD of teaching with the resources on this CD. It's what I said earlier...take what you want, leave the rest-it's THAT EASY. You don't have to agree with or believe everything you hear about any side. The parents I know that do use this do not use it like he says it should be used, not by a long shot! Hunter, you make my thoughts so much clearer than I could!
  5. When the new year starts in August for public school is when he is officially in the next grade. If he wasn't progressing so well I would probably keep him where he was until I felt that he had mastered the big skills for his current grade.
  6. I know a lot of people who enjoy it, although I have no personal experience with it. It is a pretty good curriculum from what I have seen with others and with my own research. Obviously you don't have to use the method as he does, but listening to his seminars and watching his videos can give ideas on how he uses it with his family, which in turn can give you ideas on how to adapt it for your own family. I don't think one should discount the whole curriculum simply because of how one person uses it or says it should be used. You can use any curriculum any way you wish or make it into what you want for your family.
  7. Big time.....all new curriculums. Logic and art/music study will be brand new things added in....trying to find a cheap Spanish curriculum that would be fun for the kids too. New phonics program since the last 3 bombed horribly....new math. New everything basically, except we're still going to use Ambleside Online and Queen's Language Lessons and Printing with Pictures....everything else has changed.
  8. If the cut is bleeding, soap and water is all you need. Tetanus cannot grow in oxygenated blood. Once I learned that I do good wound care and that's it. It is also more of a concern on farms in the past due to the presence of animals and the likelihood of old farm equipment lying around outside and rusting. Even with those factors it is extremely hard to get. Check out mayoclinic.org and the CDC's website.
  9. Oh its happened...depending on how close we were sometimes it's painful and I may approach the other person but if not...I let it go. Ignore it. I can't make everyone happy and not everyone will like me...and thats fine.
  10. Oh big big time. Summer reading programs at the library were most awesome. I took books everywhere and anywhere and I am still this way. I love love love reading.
  11. I have this issue too, but generally my kids just play outside with the neighbor kids and don't go inside. Unfortunately I do not like the one neighbor boy my son played with...he is about 4 or so and would come down to our house and ring to bell to see if my son could play. Alone. THey would play in front of the houses which is ok, but the last time this happened I called my son in for dinner, he came, and the little boy kept knocking on the door and yelling for my son and when that didn't get a response he threw a bunch of gravel over and over at our door. Nope, not happening again. The other little guy lives across the street and I think he must be 3 or 4, he is always out with a parent or someone watching him and seems to be pretty cool. I have a hard time letting go there too but I have no issues if he goes over and plays in the front yard where I can see him. The family has no issues with my son either.
  12. nursing, co slept all the time because I was too lazy and tired to get up and go elsewhere. I stopped going to peds a long time ago for sleeping or nutrition advice...I found that they were wrong on a lot of things and just because they have a lot more schooling than me does not mean they know everything. We co-slept safely and have no regrets.
  13. Kindergarten Hits: Anything science related that had to do with watching movies or looking up about whatever his interest is. History studies that he picked the topic (pirates, Titanic) Language Lessons For Little Ones 1 Reading Eggs LOF Apples Living math books Math Lessons For A Living Education 1-my son is finally getting the concepts of 10's and 1's and counting higher Kind of meh: Dreambox. I LOVE it, ds loved it except now as it is getting a little harder he whines about doing any of it. He still seems to like it and I will continue to get this and have him use it...it has really helped him. Printing with Pictures-Probably too young to have started him on copywork Misses: Delightful Reading-I could NOT for the life of me figure out how to use DR....ds hated it. CLP The World God Made-fluff, religion disguised as science. BFSU-Good solid program but I got sooooooooo burnt out on the presentation and that constant having to find books and supplies Tanglewood School's phonics lessons-Tears and tears 100 Easy Lessons-Almost got as many tears as TS Queen's history readers-good stuff but not for a kindergartner...or at least my kindergartner. Singapore Earlybird-ds did great with some concepts but did not understand grouping and stuff. Epic fail big time.
  14. :iagree: I'm so tempted to grab their preschool for August and pre-k for next year even though I know kids that age don't technically need a curriculum. THey are just so cool looking though!
  15. have lots of questions. :D 1) Do you or any other adults in your house cycle on roads with car traffic? No, not anymore 2) Do you believe that bicyclists have as much right to the road as cars or other vehicles? Yes 3) Are there many ADULTS riding bikes recreationally where you live? Do you have bike lanes? Not on my side of town; yes 4) How do you feel about cyclists riding on two-lane, rural roads and slowing down traffic? Should this be legal? I don't care about the above as long as they don't obstruct traffic. 5)What about on multi-lane highways with no designated bike lanes? Should they be allowed to ride in the emergency lane or in the slow lane? I would think it would be too dangerous for both of those 6) Have you ever noticed (as I have :tongue_smilie:) that the most annoying cyclists tend to be riding high-end bikes and wearing super high-tech helmets and clothing? It's never the obviously poor guy riding his kid's bike because his car is broken down or his license got suspended, LOL. Very much so. They don't stop for red lights, stop signs, get off at the crosswalks to cross, ride in packs and block up traffic.
  16. We'll be continuing math and LA, and continuing our Titanic unit, plus some copywork. Not going to push hard for science, we may read some stuff or do movies but for the most part I will wait until the school year starts in August. I do want to do at least one lesson daily of Reading Eggs once he finishes LLFLO, and continuing his Math Lessons with at least half hour on Dreambox daily. We also will have swim lessons for both kids weekly and the older one will be doing piano lessons weekly too. We'll do a lot of read-alouds as well.
  17. This. Also, as long as there was fidelity on both parties, I could easily do it.
  18. This is so very true and I wish I had done this when I first started with my kinder kiddo.
  19. I lose it practically once a day or at least several days a week. I don't like it.....but they sure test me daily.
  20. 21. 19 first time. I could have stood to wait a few years and I wish I had...I would have seen what kind of person I was marrying in a much clearer light lol
  22. http://www.vitacost.com/natural-vitality-natural-calm-plus-calcium-16-oz I love this stuff. It goes along with what Negin was talking about.
  23. History Odyssey from Pandia Press gets a vote for me....it has all you mentioned.
  24. Math Lessons For A Living Education. I wish so much I had started my son off in this instead of Singapore Earlybird...I am glad I found it as a good replacement!
