  1. And I wonder why my 7 year old has so much trouble catching on to reading....our language is crazy!
  2. I like the guy, and he's an excellent singer, but this show might as well be called American Idol since this is the third singer in a row to win. I'd rather someone with other talents win too.
  3. I wouldn't discount the notion. I really don't think that vaccines effect on the body of a small baby are understood enough to discount anything.
  4. My 7 year old is a girl, but she likes.... animal documentaries Casper the friendly ghost The Littles
  5. Honestly, not much. DH doesn't arrive home until around 6:30 or 6:45. Up until then we are schooling, cleaning up, and cooking dinner. We eat when he arrives home. By the time we finish dinner and clean up, it's like 7:30 which is time for the kids to start getting ready for bed. At 8, we start putting them to bed. Afterwards, DH and I usually watch a show or two together.
  6. Strange that I just ran across your post.....I *just* saw a groupon for photo scanning! It seems like a great deal! http://www.groupon.com/deals/scan-my-photos-fox-cities?utm_medium=afl&utm_campaign=4581868&utm_source=rvs
  7. This is interesting to know. DD7 will soon complete book 3. Book 4 actually arrived yesterday. Should we do 5 instead?
  8. If I were the runner, I would not stop running. I would maybe try to go out and around the dog/owner a bit though. If I were the dog owner, I would stop walking and pull the dog to the side while the runner passes.
  9. What do I make too often? Probably meatball subs and taco salad.
  10. LOL! I can't say I've run across that......I have two girls and one on the way.
  11. Well, to tell you how my day is going.....after warning the kids over and over, I walked around the house collecting every. single. toy strewn across the living room, school room, and sun room....took it all and threw everything in the playroom and shut and locked the door. I told the kids they are not allowed to play with a single toy until I go into the playroom, all by myself, and purge BIG TIME. I informed them this could take two days, ten days, or thirty days. I also informed them that they might see a whole lot of boxes heading off to Goodwill. For now, they have coloring books, crayons, and stickers. Yes, I gave them AMPLE warning. Over, and over, and over. And all they did was fight and cry about who was cleaning up what. Yes, it has been one of those days. AND I'm 8 months pregnant. AND I have a horrible cold. UGH. Yes, I'm whining. :D
  12. I just tried to get to the site and it said that it's down for maintenance. Maybe they should have thought this out better.
  13. I think my van said 96* when I got in this afternoon. I seriously thought I was going to have a heat stroke or something when I was out and about, running errands. I am *so* over summer. I'm in FL, BTW. Bring on some cooler temps! Very jealous of all of you that can wear a jacket right now!
  14. Dry rotted tires are very dangerous. If you are not willing to replace the tires, I'd call the car dead right now.
  15. I run down a list right before they get into bed.... Do you have to go to the bathroom? Do you need a drink of water? Do you have the stuffed animal you want to sleep with? Did you tell Daddy good night? Then, once or twice a week, as a reminder, I run down the "true emergency" list. You can only get out of bed *IF*...... There is a fire. You have to go to the bathroom. You are hurting, injured, or do not feel well. You think someone is trying to get into the house. ( have to include this because one evening they asked me if that was a true emergency. Yes dear, it is...now I have to add it to "the list.") This is not fool proof, but it has helped, especially with our 7 year old. What we have issues with is actually getting the kids into bed. I *really* like the free pass idea. I think that we will try that, but I want to modify it. I'm going to set a timer in the evenings for about 10 or 15 minutes. If my kids can get into bed during the alotted time, and then stay in bed, they can turn in their pass in the morning for a ticket. Five tickets will equal a pick out of the treasure box.
  16. How did a slotted spoon even fit down the drain in the first place? In our house, it would never fit!
  17. My hands/fingers ached when my thyroid went out of whack after DD#2 was born. After my thyroid got back to normal, so did my hands. Come to think of it, my feet ached too.
  18. My kids ask to watch TV occasionally, but not all the time. If I say no, they would just continue on with what they were previously doing....lately that's been coloring, putting stickers in their books, playing with Trio blocks, or My Little Ponies.
  19. Oooh, the ask me nicely argument! Oh yes, we have that little fight at our house too. I can sympathize. :glare:
  20. There's not really anything you can do. If she's still doing it at an older age, you can get a mouth guard from the dentist. DD7 did it at night from about ages 3-6. She finally stopped. I asked the dentist about it when she was doing it and she didn't act like it was a big deal.
  21. I posted yesterday about needing an easy science curriculum, mostly that I can just open and go, that's interesting, not many experiments, and has worksheets that my kids can do (my kids love worksheets, coloring sheets, science crafts, etc). Also that my 4 year old will enjoy listening in on. Does Sonlight fit this description? I've never used anything from Sonlight...honestly, I usually just skip over their booth at the homeschool convention because it looks overwhelming and confusing. Also, I'm wondering if I can just purchase the teachers manual and then try to find a few of the books cheaper on amazon (used), paperbackswap (although I don't have high hopes for finding them on there), or somewhere around town (the library?). Do I really need the supplies kit or the Discover & Do DVD? We don't do real well with finding the time to pop in a DVD. That usually gets skipped over. What do you guys think?
  22. I'm thinking of giving DD7 some work boxes so that maybe she'll be motivated to get some of her independent work finished more quickly. Thing is, she can't do everything on her own. I have to explain math to her, especially if we are beginning a new topic. She can do part of her reading on her own, but the other part needs to be done with me. I have to go over spelling words with her. I read our Bible curriculum to both girls....same goes for FLL and science. I'm not sure that work boxes could work for us. I wish they could. How do you use them with younger kids?
