  1. I want another baby and love the baby stage but I do realize they grow up waay to fast and that stage is just a blip. I don't love every stage but when I am thinking of adding to the family and having another baby I do think of the future too. Not only pre-teens and teens but I think of when my kids are all grown I would love to have more people in the family. I know the baby stage is fleeting but I still would love to experience it again as well as the toddler stage. I get a little sad when the kids leave a stage behind but I also like seeing them enter new phases and get older. If I could keep having babies then I get to experience the new phases but not have to leave the other stages behind but that just is not an option ;)
  2. I have no idea what you are talking about. I am 30 and grew up in New Jersey.
  3. Thank you. We were thinking of doing it but I am worried that the cap for his occupation would be reached by the time the two year wait was over. It seemed like that would happen. We passed all the screenings and we were really thinking of doing it for a while. My dh is a claims examiner with a lot of experience and that was one of the categories. Was it hard to find a job once you got the status?
  4. I'm just curious did you get a work visa and get the local permanent resident or did you apply through the Buffalo office and wait?
  5. It isn't easy to move to Canada at all. You need to qualify under one of the categories for a Permanent resident or get a work permit. It would not be easy to get a work permit because a company would have to do extra work and possibly have to wait to get you over. You can be a resident faster if you go under the local office and have a job with a work permit but I don't know how many companies would go through the hassle of sponsoring. We have looked into it. My husband actually would qualify under one of the skilled worked categories to become a Permanent Resident that is a occupation they have a shortage of but there is a 2 year wait to hear back and get approved from the US office. It is not easy to immigrate to another country. You either need to have family in the country or have a special skill that they are in need of. Even that doesn't guarantee you will get in because the quotas could be met by the time things go through.
  6. Was there enough time for her to show you how to cook? Chicken florentine lasagna just is not fancy enough and it wasn't made with free range certified organic chicken from the Peruvian rainforest served with bamboo napkins? Cloth ones are only suitable for the garbage after all. She gave you a whole hour notice with her knowledge and expertise she could of invited you after the food was halfway eaten. In all seriousness I am dying to know what she would make for dinner and if she really would be trying to teach you how to cook.
  7. A burrito is wrapped with a bigger style flour tortilla and the ends are tucked in. A taco is made with a corn tortilla and folded in half. It can be prepared soft or hard depending on the frying method. I'm surprised flour is winning in the poll because traditionally tacos are made with corn not flour.
  8. Wow that was completely rude. I can't believe the audacity. I am completely curious of what she would of "taught" too and why in the world she was so against pasteurized beef when she was not a vegetarian since that was not mentioned on her really long list. I would almost be tempted to talk to her and find out where she is coming from from pure curiosity sake because her behavior and diet seem crazy. Curiosity is killing me but if it happen to me I probably be taken back and shocked and feel like you do. As an outsider I am dying to know what kind of cooking lessons she would give. I would also want to know the husbands take on it. That was beyond rude that she said she would show you how to cook.
  9. I am in the same situation as you. We just sold our place and we couldn't find a rental in our range that accepted pets. The places we found we were always second in line for and I searched every day and made calls as soon as they came up. We ended renting a mobile and it isn't our ideal. We are spending too much to rent it. I hope you are able to buy a place soon. You are in my thoughts. Hopefully in September you can get your place.

  11. I'm not sure how I feel because the one positive review said it was not about down syndrome and I have a feeling most of the reviews are from people who didn't read the book. If it is mocking people with DS or Asians that is beyond low but maybe it isn't. I didn't read the book so I can't say for sure. It was a poor choice to use that term and the cover choice was poor too. If it is talking about the mongoloid race then it is horrible but if it is about a fictional race from another universe then it could be just a really poor choice of wording.
  12. Take the pedals off and use it as a balance bike and when he gets the hang of balancing you can put the pedals back on. He can start pedaling by putting one foot on the higher pedal when it is in position to go down and pushing then picking up the other pedal with his foot once it gets going.

  14. It makes sense to me because I feel similarly. My dh had to be convinced to have a 3rd so there will be no 4th but I really want more kids. It is not getting better now that my youngest passed the age where I conceived my 2nd and 3rd.
  15. I had to take out loans to pay for college. My parents couldn't afford to help. I wasn't even going into a well paying career. I think it is very tacky to ask for money and I would of never asked people for money for school. I would not give money to a well off kid who parents refused to pay for school who was going into a good paying career. He can get loans.
  16. We just moved into a rental almost 2 weeks ago and I found mouse droppings under the bathroom counters. I actually saw one of them under the cabinet in the bathroom. EEEK!!! I don't want to deal with this. Not cool at all. It isn't us.
  17. Meet the letters worked well for my dd when she was not learning letters and forgetting letters she just learned. She also tended to remember the whole story line in videos but not the letters but she had them down with meet the letters.
  18. My girls are thin and on the bottom of the weight charts but thankfully my pediatrician knows that it is normal for them and is not concerned at all. My youngest eats all the time and consumes a ton of food and my oldest is not a big eater. I was really thin as a child and I got those kind of comments from both kids at school and adults daily. They accused me of not eating and asked my mom if she fed me enough. They acted like I was super fragile and commented that I will just blow away in the wind. They said I was anorexic and the kids said things that were even worse. My girls haven't gotten it yet but I know it will come.
  19. If you move from Anchorage, AK to Seattle, WA.... Groceries will cost: 19%less Housing will cost: 14%less Utilities will cost: 8%less Transportation will cost: 0%more Healthcare will cost: 15%less I put in 600 and it said it would be 537 in Seattle. I don't like living in a high cost of living area.
  20. They are building a co-housing community of around 30 households where I live. They found a 6 acre piece of land in the city. If you contribute beforehand and go to the getting it built workshops you can help design how it will be built. We were hoping it would be an option for us since we just sold our place but they did cost estimates for the first time and it is out of our range. I told the lady who started it that we were priced out. Right before we left she told us to not give up yet and come to the meetings and we will try to get costs down. The land prices are not expensive and it is not what is bringing the cost up. There is already plumbing and electricity and all that so that also isn't a major expense. In co-housing there is a common house but this property happens to have a building on it that can maybe be used. They are usually duplexes or triplexes but I was thinking row house style could work too. What are ways to keep construction costs down? They will be built environmentally friendly and will need to be well insulated.
  21. Actually the economic spectrum is huge and straight up capitalism, communism and feudalism are not the only possibilities. The amount of resource use in the current system in this country is not sustainable at all.
  22. I'm not in Canada but I am in Alaska and you can't find wheat berries in stores here. A group of us placed a bulk order at a farm and got a really good deal on wheat and barley. I would try calling farms.
  23. Median House Value 266,463 Adjusted Gross Income 52,318 Salary 49,143 Cost of Living index 132
  24. I live in Alaska. I am assuming you mean a blue collar income. You cannot get by here on a small income. I had a 2 bedroom condo that we brought 7 years ago and the mortgage was expensive for that. We just sold and had to find a rental and it was hard to find anything in our price range that accepted a dog and a cat. We weren't even looking for big places and we didn't need a nice neighborhood we just wanted one that wasn't a crime spot. The rents were 1400-1600 for a 3 bedroom townhouse type of condo. Some were even higher than that. If it was lower it was in a bad neighborhood. Housing is pretty expensive and everything else is expensive too. We have what should be a decent income but it is hard to get by with it in this area. A family could not get by on 30,000 without needing assistance and even with assistance it would be hard. I was hoping we would be leaving here for somewhere with a more reasonable cost of living but dh just got another job so we are here for now. I get jealous when I look at what we can get in other areas by looking at trulia.
  25. I would definitely tell her to get an evaluation because they could be red flags but my older kids both lost speech and they do not have autism or other developmental issues. I did get them evaluated by EI and my ds qualified for therapy but he would of progressed without out it. My kids do some of the other things you listed. They never had a loss of social skills though and their speech wasn't very advanced when they started losing words.
