  1. I wouldn't do that for the whole family, unless you do individual card for each person so they could each decide what they wanted. My kids love getting gift cards! Alternatively, you could do one from there for the mom and gift cards from other places for the kids (even restaurants like Dairy Queen or something similar would probably go over well if you wanted to avoid toys).
  2. Similar issue here many years ago. She entered Kindergarten reading chapter books, so everything in Kindergarten and 1st was a repeat. Our school psychologist administered several tests to DD and included IQ, Woodcock-Johnson (?) and I believe it was called the Iowa Assessment (not to be confused with the Iowa standardized testing/ITBS). The Iowa Assessment test at the time was a test to assess readiness for grade acceleration. They weren't super stellar at interpreting this info for me, but it gave me a great baseline. I did a lot of googling and reading on Hoagie's gifted to interpret myself. At least I had something concrete to go by when advocating for her academic needs at the time. Around that same time I tried finding outside professionals/counselors that specialize in working with these test results, in my large metro area there was maybe only 1 that specialized in counseling the bright/gifted that could help us with unique challenges that come along with it. Fast forward to now, she's still very bright but the content in middle school is keeping her challenged so not much of an issue right now. In your case, I would find out if there is a school psychologist and request testing. From my initial research it's very expensive to pay for on your own.
  3. I've had a pair of Sorel for a few years, just now starting to wear them regularly due to my trek from the parking lot into my work. So warm and toasty, I love them. Not too heavy/bulky for the near mile long walk to my building. I looked them up recently and they still sell them, I believe the style name is the Angel boot or something similar.
  4. It's a game changer for me. I would probably never agreed to a second cat if we didn't already have this in use. We have one by each box. So easy to use and contains odors really well.
  5. Clarisonic Apple watch Perfume New robe Curling wand Don Aslett cleaning products and tools Infinity scarves Gloves with the ability to text/dial
  6. Thank you so much for reminding me about these blankets! They are my go-to gift every year and everyone loves them including my kids. I stock up at this price (cheaper with the 15% coupon and also Kohl's cash make them super cheap). They sell out fast but get randomly restocked throughout the holiday season. They are SO soft and wash up beautifully. I just ordered several after your post....thanks again!
  7. We use the cat genie (same concept as the diaper genie). I can't imagine having cats without this device.
  8. Still loving it. Some episodes more than others, but most of the time it leaves me with goosebumps or happy tears. I look forward to it every week. I don't have much to compare it to as this is the first time in years that I have had time to actually follow a series.
  9. DH had one in the office and a granuloma was found on his vocal cords, went away after starting GERD treatment. Sister had one in the office for pain and an ulceration was found on her vocal cords, is being treated with high dose GERD treatment. She has had chronic cough for years, I'm going to bet her asthma and random heart symptoms will improve as well after being treated. Wishing you good results and some answers!
  10. I second the game Zingo, got this years ago and my 9 year old still enjoys playing it.
  11. The style here is athletic or other designed t-shirts (stripes, etc) paired with joggers. My boys are younger but they love the sweatshirt material joggers. I see other teens wearing non-sweatpant material joggers with plain colored t's. We do a lot of Nike, Under Armour. While they are pricier, they do hold up much better than cheap clothes. We rarely ever have issues with stains. As far as coats, that's a tough one. I don't see many kids wearing coats. Usually sweatshirts until its really cold. When they do, they are name brand (The North Face, etc.). When it comes to coats though, I would highly recommend getting one that he picks out and loves or it's simply not going to get worn and will be a waste of money.
  12. Thanks for the update! Meant to write back on your last update, but had not had time. Sounds like things are moving in the right direction!
  13. This is so me! I've never been able to put a finger on it, but you described it perfectly. As far as the OP, I come from a family where 95% of us are in the medical field. Everyone's schedule varies from year to year. We start discussing holidays about 2 weeks ahead of time, then refine it about 3-4 days prior. It's not until that point that we know who will be there or won't. Weather/travel plays a part in this as well. We often have family friends ask to spend their holidays with us; I love that about my family, everyone feels welcome. DH's family is not nearly as flexible. They begin discussing holidays months ahead. Now THAT stresses me out.
  14. Ok, now that you have updated with more details here are my suggestions. 1) Dump the PCP when this episode is over (I take back my initial comment). 2) She needs an internal medicine physician (now would be good if she doesn't have one, but at minimum when this is over) 3) Make sure cardiology is on board now with her stent history and to rule out further heart issues 4) Has she had a recent echo to check her heart function and valves? The shortness of breath was likely due to the anemia but could also be heart failure. If she hasn't had a recent one she needs one, they are easy and can do them at the bedside in her hospital room. And with all the blood and perhaps fluids she is receiving you need to consider fluid overload if her heart can't handle it. 5) I would really not be worried about Lyme at all right now, she may have bleeding from somewhere that needs to be found (the Plavix may have made it worse but shouldn't be the main culprit) and her symptoms point to heart and/or a bleed somewhere. 6) Did they do a CT to rule out a stroke since she had blurry vision and was on Plavix? 6) Could be a anemia of chronic disease but a bleed needs to be ruled out first. If there is any way you could be there, it would be beneficial to stay on top of things and advocate for her if needed. At minimum call the nurses frequently for updates. Keep us posted!
  15. Glad she is feeling better! I would expect them, as you said, to be running multiple tests to find the cause. That is quite a lot of blood to have transfused, so I am guessing they will be aggressive at looking for a source of bleeding. It would not be unusual in her case to have an upper endoscopy or even a colonoscopy to look for bleeding. That's great that her PCP was paying attention enough to her initial labs to send her to the ER. It sounds like they are on top of things!
  16. I have never heard of this but if you don't get any responses, I would try gardenweb forums. It's a great resource for any home related topic.
  17. I see a canceled order tab now and they were canceled and it must have been around the time when I canceled my missing credit card. Never mind!
  18. Just checked. These particular orders were not confirmed. One item isn't available anymore, I wonder if that has something to do with it.
  19. There are two items that I could have sworn I ordered recently and they are not even on my order list. I've used Amazon for years and this has never happened. Am I losing my mind or is something going on on their end?
  20. It is not unusual at all to put them up now. A few of our neighbors had them up a few weeks ago, taking advantage of this rare weather and now several of the neighbors have them up. Go for it!
  21. I would not have a problem with any of that, except for the SS#. I refuse that at all offices. I don't see an issue with phone numbers though, how else would they reach you for test results, appt reminders, etc.?
  22. This is exactly what came to my mind! A little something for everyone and many options for accommodations.
  23. Just had mine done this morning. It looks brand new and I am so glad I spent the money, versus using my own machine. The company I used suggested to pick up everything possible, vacuum really well and they will clean what is visible (I didn't want to pay extra for them moving furniture but they do offer that if desired). No furniture was moved and I am so pleased with the results, wish we would have done this a long time ago. It cost me $230 for around 1100 square feet. I chose a company with really good reviews and before/after pics on Yelp. I was in a similar position as you when my husband refused to help me in the basement because it "wasn't his stuff". I hounded him for weeks to help move the numerous totes that have been sitting in the middle of the basement, and he finally realized he needed to step up so he worked on that this weekend. We also have a party coming up and I told him I just can't do it all myself.
  24. Very odd! I would get into a PCP or allergist ASAP for an epi pen script due to his lips swelling. If it happens again, I would not go to an urgent care. They may or may not have epi and if there is an airway emergency, those providers are not generally trained to deal with that nor have the equipment (I'm an NP with some urgent care experience in school). Hopefully just a random event!
  25. Amazon usually carries fun superhero socks.
