  1. I think the main reason is melting chocolate or spoiling concerns, but I could be wrong. It seems like in the past they have allowed non-melting treats but I would leave them out to be on the safe side and abide by their requests.
  2. Our pack does this. The boys have a fun time and the leaders volunteer, so no one is surprised. Lots of laughter and a fun time letting loose after a long few weeks of hard work.
  3. Eww. And weird. I would laugh it off as at that age I wouldn't worry about him being a threat to me. If he were approaching minors, I'd be on the phone with the police. I would, however, report it to the coffee shop so they can take notice and not lose customers over his weird behavior.
  4. Agree with the driving school suggestions. I have anxiety on our local interstates; I take the side roads everywhere in a fairly large city. It takes me a bit longer, but gets me everywhere I need to go. Can always pull over if there's an issue or if she needs to take a breather.
  5. If there is hair loss and now a cyst like bump, I would seek treatment ASAP. The hair loss can be permanent and you do not want a chance of an infection spreading anywhere on the head/neck. ETA: sorry, just reread your post, looks like she was seen yesterday. Hope she's doing better today!
  6. Usually someone makes the Jiffy corn bread casserole. If not that, then macaroni corn casserole is also a tradition.
  7. I make mine with butter, evaporated milk and whatever cheese I have on hand (Velveeta usually). I would imagine adding in any kind of cheese that you want would work (and would taste better than my version)! My kids love it and there are never leftovers. I don't measure the evaporated milk, just keep adding until you like the consistency. This needs to be made right before you are ready to eat though.
  8. Can you check and see if your state has an option for online school? Mine contracts with K12; they are technically a public school student but do all the work at home with a supervising public school teacher. Do you belong to a local homeschool group to discuss options for your area? I would also schedule a regular nap time for yourself. :grouphug:
  9. I was going to say yes donate, until you mentioned that it may be a scam. I would do a bit more research on that and if you truly find evidence of it, I would gently let them know what you have found. I think they deserve to know if it truly is. Perhaps brainstorming other routes for her to explore would be helpful too so you don't knock the wind out of her sails. Perhaps a present/gift card related to her chosen talent would help you feel better too about not giving towards a scam.
  10. Our district still has shop in high school. I know this because on my first day as a school nurse, a student severely cut his finger on a saw. They also offer cooking/home ec type classes, and I believe they still offer basic car maintenance. Not sure about sewing. In middle school I took home ec which included basic cooking and sewing. Can't recall the name of the class but I made a rubber wallet and leather crafts. Fun memories!
  11. That's crazy! I would be on the phone with Costco administration immediately. I had nearly 2 thousand dollars of fraud charges on my Costco AMEX card; they took them off, practically no questions asked and the charges were reversed.
  12. Good idea to have it checked out. I would first find a primary care doctor, he will need established care anyway for other needs and the GP can point you in the right direction. Secondly, DD went through a phase like this. It was so excessive and very similar to your post. I was about to make an appt too, but it suddenly went away. I am guessing it was a surge of puberty hormones. She still has a hard time with hands, feet and finding deodorant that will work, but the soaking of clothes has disappeared. Thirdly, I sweat more than your average person (hands, feet, etc.) especially after a hot shower. I keep my showers cooler, run fans when I'm getting ready and have to wear cotton socks/underwear. If I get way overheated while getting ready, it is difficult to cool down. For whatever reason, when I get my undergarments and socks on right after away showering, it decreases significantly. Hope it improves for him!
  13. Capezio ultra soft. They last the longest for us and are my picky DD's first preference. I get them from Amazon, which seems to be the best deal and so easy to order. They are never out of her size or color that she needs at the time. When in doubt order the bigger size! I really think this helps them last longer when there's a little more give.
  14. A friend of mine stocks cards for Hallmark at Target. Not sure if this can be done in the evening, but worth looking into at least. As a perk, she got to keep the old cards that didn't sell.
  15. Completely agree. Hunting is huge where I live, so there are occasional child deaths related to guns. The questions are so that the provider can tailor patient education to the child's needs. When I was in NP school, we were taught to choose 2 or 3 safety related topics to cover during wellness visits because you simply can't cover them all. We could stick with the ones we felt most important and/or tailor it to each patient. For example, I simply could NOT believe how many children do not own bicycle helmets. If they didn't I would educate regarding importance of wearing them and also set them up with a free resource when it was available.
  16. My kids are not quite at that age yet, but I will be highly encouraging them to work. DH and I have held a job since we were about 14. We both purchased our own first cars and insurance and I think that's a very important life skill. Of course academics and activities are very high on the priority list, but I am hoping they will be able to work as well, even if it's just a shift or 2 each week. At minimum, they will not be sitting in front of the TV everyday or meandering the town with their friends with too much idle time. IME of friends and family, those are the kids that end up addicted to drugs. That said, I don't think it's nearly as easy to get a job now as a teen as it was 20-25 years ago. Perhaps companies don't want the liability of employing minors?? Perhaps work ethic is lower now?
  17. Oh, that makes sense and didn't realize you were planning on fixing it yourself. You must be so stressed!
  18. I wouldn't either. I always refuse this at medical offices. You could look up the regulations and print them out if they still take issue with this.
  19. Glad you brought this up again, was wondering who else was still watching! I like it more and more with each episode. I laugh, my eyes tear up and I get goosebumps. Such a good show!
  20. I turned the heat on as soon as we woke up to 65 degree temps in the house. I set it very low though (67) so it doesn't kick on often. I have to admit to a few days of switching from air to heat and vice versa within the same day. :leaving:
  21. Totally agree especially if you are going to be around a newborn. Pertussis (whooping cough) is really on the rise.
  22. Tdap around 6 years ago right before my niece was born (I babysat her the first 2 years of her life). That makes it easy to remember.
  23. I couldn't tell by the post either where it was "repaired" originally. Either way, Best Buy should be backing up the products they sell.
