  1. I've seen those ads as well, and they look fascinating.
  2. Shared books went on a bookshelf. Individual materials went into a plastic crate for each child, which sometimes were in the living room, and sometimes were in the child's room. It was an easy way to keep all their stuff together, and when we went to Grandma's house, it was easy to load up in the car.
  3. Before I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, but trying to get better sleep, I tried using melatonin. It made me feel yuck; sluggish, bad dreams, etc. I don't remember the dosage, but it wasn't high--just what was the suggested dosage on the container, I think.
  4. https://www.amazon.com/Filmmakers-Handbook-Comprehensive-Guide-Digital/dp/B01BITDM3S/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1I193YPTOQ6N&dchild=1&keywords=the+film+maker's+handbook&qid=1607486038&sprefix=the+film%2Caps%2C236&sr=8-4 This is one we got ds a couple of years ago, because I saw it recommended on so many booklists when I was searching for a good film book. He went through it thoroughly. However, he said it would depend on her age and level of proficiency, because it can be pretty technical and would be boring for someone who isn't ready for it.
  5. My curiosity got the best of me, and I looked at the movies mentioned above. None of them sound like it, or the production rates are off. I don't know about the trailer, @SKL; I don't remember if I saw a trailer on it or just saw the movie on TV with my dad.
  6. For some reason, I didn't see your replies. Sorry about that. It's definitely not Christy. That book (not the movie/shows) is one of my very favorite books ever. I felt the show didn't do the book justice at all. I enjoyed the show on a certain level, but was always miffed because the characters didn't fit how I had them in my head, and the show altered things that I felt changed the integrity/character of some of the characters. This movie was somewhat different in approach, etc. I'm really tired tonight, but I'll look at these other suggestions tomorrow. Thanks!
  7. Yes, I like both Father of the Bride movies too!
  8. In the late 70s or very early 80s, I saw a movie on TV that I just loved. I have no idea if it was really any good, or just stupid but hitting me at the right spot that night. It was about a teacher (I think) who went to Appalachia with high plans to change people. There was a man from there who was a Vietnam vet and educated, with whom she clashed, but in Hallmark style, they inevitably fell in love. Their clashes were often because she was pushing for change, and he was trying to show her the true heart of the people. At least one of the theme songs was You Are My Sunshine. It might be cheesy as all getout, but I'd like to watch it again if I can find it. Did anybody else see this? I have no idea who played in it or anything.
  9. Sabrina (the Harrison Ford, Julia Ormond one) While You Were Sleeping Wives and Daughters (series) Sweet Home Alabama
  10. My 5th was born two weeks before I turned 41, and 7 years after his closest older siblings (twins). It was so easy because I had so much help. While I had teenagers and a baby, he was pretty flexible and never set himself on a schedule like the others had, so I didn't worry about messing up his schedule by taking him places. He's a joy, and I'm glad we have him.
  11. Basketball goal (and a smaller one for the littles) Soccer goal
  12. Okay, so this may be way off base because I can't remember all the words right now, and it's Friday night and I'm lazy and don't want to look it all up. All that said, I think that while Mary knew how his conception came about, and many other things, I think the way it played out was unexpected. Jesus didn't do what people thought the Messiah was going to do. He wasn't a military leader like so many were expecting. His mission was a lot deeper. So in that way, Mary didn't really know how it was all going to play out.
  13. I don't know. I've never used them, but dh said somebody he works with has them, and says they really help.
  14. This year, I think I'm going to put in some of those eyeglass wipes that help prevent fogging for those of us who wear glasses. I'm going to make sure I include myself! I end up fiddling with my mask nose wire a lot to try to stop the fogging up.
  15. I'm really sorry to hear this, Scarlett. Praying for your family.
  16. This is the one our pup loves: https://www.chewy.com/benebone-bacon-flavor-wishbone-tough/dp/56874 I've only bought one--he is six months old today. He was a little shy of it at first, for some reason. Then he started liking it a lot, and chewed on it regularly. However, the past few weeks he has really been chowing down on it and chewing with a vengeance. He is wearing the tips off, but not so fast that it is dangerous or anything. I'll definitely get him another when this one gets too far gone.
  17. I left off reading this thread for several days, thinking through the questions a lot. And the truth is, without God, I don't see meaning and purpose. It is not a cop-out; it goes to the deepest part of my being, and answers questions that I can't get answered in any other way. I'm not talking about "religion" or philosophies. I'm not talking about working up some system of beliefs. I know that many here have dismissed God as untrue or unimportant, and not worthy of exploring, for whatever reasons. And I don't plan on going into a full-on apologetics discussion. But if you all are truly questioning meaning and purpose, what would be the harm in asking God to show you that? If He isn't there, no harm done. But if, as I truly believe, He is and is who He says He is, then perhaps you might find a treasure above all treasures. Again, I'm not talking about "religion." I'm talking about a deep and living relationship.
  18. @Jenny in Florida, does he have a massager (for the back)? We bought this last year for our adult son for Christmas, and we all liked it so much we bought one for ourselves. We leave it plugged in in the living room, and it gets lots of use both by the athletes in the family, and due to a certain muscle in my shoulder that tightens up periodically: https://www.amazon.com/Tissue-Percussion-Therapeutic-Handheld-Massager/dp/B00BTYYCKK/ref=sr_1_11?crid=TY86IRC2YIB9&dchild=1&keywords=deep+pressure+massager&qid=1606052674&sprefix=deep+pressu%2Caps%2C435&sr=8-11
  19. Should be 1:1. However, in a cornbread recipe, I would melt the butter before adding. I bake mine in an iron skillet, and with that method, I actually don't mix the butter into the batter. I heat the iron skillet in the oven until the butter melts, take out the skillet, sprinkle a little cornmeal into the skillet, then spoon in the batter (without mixing in the butter). It makes a nice crunchy crust and is delicious.
  20. A Kindle Paperwhite. He travels, and lost his old one.
  21. I had planned to go simpler this year, but I made the mistake of asking what people wanted. They want it all. Including the appetizers. Oh well. They better help me, lol.
  22. All this, and yet yesterday I saw a post on facebook encouraging people to watch a video on "The Covid Cult," by Tom Wood. If people are watching things like this, and don't read information like I get here, it is no wonder things are going crazy with this virus.
  23. I don't know if it would be considered for Christmas, or just because, but I plan to buy a good planner this year, and one of the vegetable cookbooks suggested on another thread. I'm quitting my job, and want the planner to help organize my days better. I want the vegetable cookbook because our budget is going to feel it, lol!
